I love the new “yakiniku” costumes. They're in my desktop wallpaper now.

 

They have some of the most "out there" costumes of all Idols. Even when they wear toned down costumes like their Jumping Summer one. they still wear the ears.

I follow a lot of Idols and all things considered, I think Wa-suta is the all around best;
1) they have great singers in Ruka and Nanase who complement each other with Ruka being very dynamic while Nanase is expressive and subtle.

2) Great dancing by Ririka and Miri. I seriously put them at the top of the Idol dance game. Some Idols can dance more dynamic then them but these girls are second to none when it comes to expressing themselves thru dance. Also they have great choreography.

3) They have eye catching costumes. From there conservative but very cute pocka dot dress for their first album to their flamboyant Tapioca Tea costume, Wa-suta never fail to draw you in.

4) They have great songs. If it was AKB who sang Wa-suta songs, all the songs would be million sellers; Aishitene, Sukina Hito Imasuka, Stay with me Baby, Ran Ran Jidai, Doki Doki Today, PPG, Yada, Yo Quiero Vivir, all are, what I would say, a step well above what is common in the Idol world.

 

… and Hazuki who… hm… well… something.

As a variety fan, even though their shows are pretty low budget, I love the energy, I sometimes joke with friends that Avex needs to stop giving cocaine to these girls.

Yeah super high energy, see their dressing room or backstage area? There is graffiti everywhere!
It would be so cool if they had an AKBingo type show because, as you said, their shows are pretty low budget. But I watch them anyway

I love the dresses.

 

I like the sailor “STU” costume and I love the yakiniku one.

On the topic of “TV” shows, the new one, Jyugyou Chuu, is still low budget but it's pretty darn good. I enjoy watching shows like Namadoru or Kono Yubi, but adding Wa-Suta's cocaine-energy to the formula makes it even better.

 

^Yeah, it has a sailor/marching band motif but is cut like a cheerleaders outfit. It looks cute and hot but not too sexy - perfect for their image and dancing.

One thing I don't get is why the ears? They wore them from their first album.

If they named themselves Nekotan Nyan or something then it makes sense but they are: The World Standard.

 

It certainly adds to their randomness. I for one can say it contributed to catching my attention when I first learned about them.

 

^It caught my attention as well. Now I can't spot them among other idols by their ears.

Now they're soldiers. (Park rangers? Girl scouts? Cat scouts?) It's the costume for the new stage.
