Yeah, quick google search and one of the early entries for Korean usage is from 2008(one of the first websites to show up actually). Apparently it's konglish, which is borrowed English words and spelled into Hangul. Makes sense since whenever the Japanese members write it, they use the actual English

 

They were saying it as far back as I started in Kpop, well before 2008 (like 2004 or 2005). And even then, it seemed like it been around for a long while.

Erika, JKT48's latest recruit who is a half Japanese said that she still had to take JLPT. Maybe because she isn't citizen of Japan & considered a foreigner? She lived in Japan for most of her life tho, until she decided to move to Indonesia to pursuing JKT48 audition. She was born in Indonesia, moved to Japan shortly before entering primary school.
