Differences between the Japanese SHICHIMI and its overseas version NANAMI



I've always referred to that 7-flavor mixed spice as SHICHIMI (TOGARASHI) until today, when I was questioned that it's written NANAMI in its label, suggesting that this could be the right pronunciation. I found it odd and, some searches later, I found out that the company (at least S&B) had decided to use NANAMI instead of SHIMICHI to avoid it to be confused with ICHIMI (one-flavor pepper), another spice.

In addition, the overseas version has two ingredients different from the Japanese version, they are white sesame seed and ginger, which substitute hemp seed and poppy seed from the original, because these components are out of the regulation in some countries.
