Great post, rust! Nailed pretty much everything I feel about this group especially senbatsu.

People complain about AKB's "boring" senbatsu but you can still understand the choices made (many of senbatsu having ranked there, the change to a Mayuyu center, the push of Paruru to be the face of Umeda Team B due to her election rank, representation of popular sister 48 members, etc.). There is no rhyme or reason to Nogizaka's senbatsu that I can wrap my head around. You have some truly popular members there, some mid tier/yo-yo members, then occasionally reserve two-three spots for rotating UG level. The Hachifukujin system is even more senseless since it contains high tier popular, mid-tier popular, one big mgmt push, and a member who should be in UG. If you're going to boast things like a Kami 8 and a "rotating" senbatsu then there really needs to be some type of "merit" system to the selection process.

I think the top 8 should be decided purely on fan decision and support, this system worked for AKB when you had the same seven members win top spots in election and it gave fans a sense of power. For those fans of members just short of Kami 7 like Yukirin and Sasshi, it gave them a goal to make their oshimen a part of this elite tier. I think Nogizaka's fans need this same sense of control so they can invest more into this group. It's frustrating to heavily support a group where you feel like as fan, your thoughts and feelings are virtually meaningless. If mgmt wants to have complete control over the rest of senbatsu, fair enough but relinquish those eight spots to the fans.

For the rest of senbatsu (the other "8"): I think this should be a mixture of popularity and rotating UG pushes. Four spots specifically used for rotation would be ideal as to fix the problem of not all members having got their senbatsu shot. Once 2nd gen come I feel the overall senbatsu should be extended to 18nin and the extra two spots be used to rotate 2nd gen pushes. Some non-Hachifukujin members like Sayurin and MaiMai appear to be "set in stone", leaving less spots for 2nd gen pushes and those nine still waiting to become a part of senbatsu, plus UG is already full enough so widening senbatsu would be a desirable once we reach that point.

I think another major weak point for this group is the fact their one flagship show only features senbatsu members. With exposure so limited, they cannot afford to have a system like this as it allocates the same amount of promotion to the same members each time making it difficult for perpetual UG to attract oshi and bring more fans into the group. The success of the 48's is not just based on the fan support of their popular members but their mid-tier/low-tier members as well, SME needs to figure that out quickly if they want this group to ever truly rival AKB's success.

Additionally, Nogizaka will be doing the insert song for Bad Boys J!
「世界で一番　孤独なLover」 / 乃木坂46 （Sony Music Records Inc）
Directly translating the title, it would mean "The world's loneliest lover", very interesting to see who will sing it!

The intro for the 1st episode seems to say the Kento (protagonist) will fall in love with Nanamin is first sight. She's also the only character not directly related to any of the three groups too. It will be interesting to see how that plays out!

 

I'm actually more interested in Sayurin and Fukka storyline with their "forbidden love", how they belong to different gangs.

I'm sure we will see Nanamin often, and Sayurin too. I just hope that other girls have some lines as well, not just treated as back drops like the ex-Team 4 girls (sans Shimazaki and Oba) in Bakaleya last year.

With Marika and Ami in Bad Boys J, is it a notion that these two will make a comeback to senbatsu next single?

 

Mgmt appears to have AmiAmi on their radar and Bebitan (imo) never should have been dropped from senbatsu before Rena. Even though there are still girls who need to get their senbatsu shot, I won't be too pressed about it if these are the two that return. I will rage if MisaMisa is once again overlooked though.

 

Bad Boys J 1st Episode out!

Short summary of what's going on as far as I know, can't guarantee accuracy tho:

Protagonist (acted by Kenta, the boy in white most of the time) likes Kumi (Nanamin). The present he planned to give Kumi was robbed earlier on, & he was sad about it. Roughly halfway through, Kumi was nabbed by some yankees from a certain faction. Kenta decided to go get her out, but was roughed up instead. The yankee head slapped Kumi, & Kenta got mad & with the help of three other yankees (belonging to the same faction btw) defeated the whole faction & the head. Kenta thought he saved Kumi & was about to receive a hug, but instead Kumi gone over to care for the Yankee head, who turn out to be her brother!!!

Afterward Kenta becomes the new head of this yankee faction due to him defeating the head. Additionally he is now depress as he lament how his intention to save Kumi have now make him Kumi's enemy by virtue of beating up her bro lol. Next episode might have a focus on Sayurin, as she is in a forbidden love with someone from a faction that is in opposition to her's. The ppl behind her were lamenting "Romeo, what are you doing with our Juliet?"

Its rather faint in the background, hopefully they can tune it up in the next episode. I do wonder who's singing it, would be interesting if its the Nogi-members partaking in the drama!

In my honest opinion. The acting of most of them is so...ridiculous. Everything is overracted. The last movie i saw which was the same type of this drama, was called Crows Zero. And the main character, was really good( Oguri Shun). If you want to see some good yankee acting, just check Takeshi Kitano movies.

Okay they are all handsome (especially the protagonist), but hell. It's gonna be very painful to watch.

I will bear the pain for the episode 2 with Sayuringo. I'm very interested in her acting.

Will she get away from her dorky yet lovely side?

Oguri Shun is an actor, a very good actor as well. These kids are just idols, all of them are idols who sing and dance and receive no acting training. It's to be expected and understandable that they cannot live up to real actors like Oguri. Come on, Crows Zero was a big-screen movie with big budget, aiming at a large audience. Bad Boys J is a mid-night drama filled with idols, main target is their fans.

In my honest opinion, I thought it was ok. I though it was good for a mid-night drama. It was better in term of acting than Aki-p's previous master collaboration Bakaleya. At least we get some focus on other characters apart from the leads as well.
