I just got into this group through anime, but my first anime idol group was LoveLive (Sunshine - Aqours). I like that they took a non-orthodox path with this group to distinguish them from Idolmaster and LoveLive. Unfortunately, Sony seems to have taken baby steps with this multimedia project. After all, it's their very first anime idol project when Bandai Namco has been doing this since 2005. And 22/7 is not alone, even Kodansha has paid attention how much Idolmaster and LoveLive have blown up over the years and want a slice of that market too. Hypnosismic under Evil Line Records (King Records anison label). 22/7's 6th single sold 54k after the anime was aired. This is considered average in the anime idol scene and not bad. This was rewarded by advancing to a bigger venue than they are used to and Sony tested them out at Budokan (Sony Music AnimeSongs Online on Jan 3). Pacifico Yokohama Convention Hall is where the journey starts for any anime idol group with a anime adaptation. Have you reached Pacifico Yokohama then your road to MetLife Dome begins. If I'm not wrong but they announced their overture last year. From 2017 to early 2020 they didn't have a overture? This was announced at Shibuya Cube. I'm happy for them to come out of the Zepp hole and start to perform at a bigger venue. We haven't seen a proper concert from them yet as you expect from a anime idol group. LoveLive blew up quick because the franchise came out 5 years after Idolmaster and when "u's" had their first live in 2012 it was Idolmaster's 7th year and it went fast for LoveLive when the anime adaptation released and it was more fantasy than Idolmaster. 22/7 is taking a non-orthodox anime idol approach so they started from scratch. Sony has no foundations to build from like Bandai Namco had from Idolmaster to LoveLive. This is Aki-P's first produced anime idol group who is set to be rivals to Idolmaster and LoveLive. Sony is playing the long game, they are thinking long-term investment with this franchise and hasn't gone full force with the group yet. And from this year they removed their anime characters from their variety show (22/7 Keisanchuu) to balance out seiyuu work and idol work.
Nifty News is reporting that Moe and Ruri have tested positive for Coronavirus, although fortunately they're both in a stable condition: https://news.nifty.com/article/entame/showbizd/12278-1078301/ All the other members (including Sally) have tested negative, however as they have all been close contacts of Moe and Ruri they will each need to be monitored.
Tryouts for new members were announced on the 20th on their YT channel. 22/7 will be auditioning for the second time in about 5 years since recruiting the current initial members in October 2016. https://www.musicvoice.jp/music/204500/
