17th gen will be on 「テレビ朝日・六本木ヒルズSUMMER STATION」 (TV Asahi Roppongi Hills SUMMER STATION)
It's a live event, in some parts recordings are allowed.
Will be broadcasted on TV sometime in September.

Showroom Event
As expected from a former pro Showroomer, Niinan is pulling ahead of her gen in the current showroom event, hovering at around top 15 on average so far!
Here's hoping for a possible 17th gen representative in the showroom senbatsu.

Seems like they are performing well, and the setlist seems to be up to the audience's taste.
Audience reports via twitter seems overwhelmingly positive, might've brought back a few fans to AKB due to nostalgic songs, freshness, and overall nice performance.

Damn can't wait to see the performance, sounds like a summer-y and fun setlist indeed!

Sounds like they managed to get attention of the other idol fans at the festival, due to the popularity and hype of the nostalgic summer songs, and of course their freshness and good performance too.

Whoever thought of the setlist got a lot of praise, especially the Oosawagi Tengoku between popular songs, and #sukinanda at the end is perfect baton pass song to =LOVE performing right after 17ki.

Seems like they did a Nemousu recording recently!
While Nemousu routinely does this for every generation, apparently this is new record for shortest time since the gen is admitted to the group.

Secret Hotechan oshi Manami
Ichikawa Manami in today's K show said that she actually loves Hotechan's face so much she actually cashed in a lot in Dobon and Showroom to throw some stars.
In Dobon she even reached 4th highest for Hotechan oshi. (lots of jargon, sorry if I mistranslated)
Also sadly Hotechan still called her "Aimi" san lol (another way to read her name Kanji), but she found that part cute too.

Shinobu fitting Updated costumes for 17ki Tadaima Renaichuu show
According to her tweet, there are some nostalgic parts but also some new parts of the costumes, she's trying to fit it with the young/fresh image of the 17ki members.
All in all, she said there will be some sentimental feel but with contemporary feel too. Members are working hard on the lessons, so look forward for the Aug 16 shonichi!

Aichan's going to be this generation's centre and I'm all for it. She is hardworking and has a captivating energy on the stage, and, of course, an incredible idol aura. Really hope she's not down due to the recent events :/

 

I wonder what it'd be like if Aichan surpasses Kiichan in popularity? They're obviously pushing her a lot and so far, I can only see positive reactions from it.

We've had sister duos before, but the only ones I've paid attention to were Tomu and Orin. Tomu is still much more popular than Orin and I doubt that'll change. It did help Orin though, I think there's a few fans who'd consider themselves Muto Sisters Oshi.

I just looked through the wiki to look at some sister duos;

NMB48:

• Jonishi Kei and Jonishi Rei. Keicchi was an ori member, she was part of senbatsu all the time and also ranked alright in the general election. She announced her graduation 4 months after Rei joined NMB48, when Rei was still a sort of unknown Kenkyuusei, so there was no rivalry or tension there.
• Nakano Reina and Nakano Mirai. Reina graduated also 4 months after Mirai joined, although neither of them have ever progressed past featuring in B-sides, so I can't judge their popularity.
• Odan Mai and Odan Yui. Yui only stayed for about a year, Mai (the first sister to join) stayed for about 7 years and was also way more popular.
• Yamada Nana and Yamada Suzu. Nana is legendary, no further comment necessary.

Team TP: Chen Shih-ya and Chen Shih-yuan both joined as original members, so not comparable. That being said, when Shih-ya was promoted, Shih-yuan left (some TP fans might have more insight on this though, I'm just comparing dates).

Mixed groups:

• Nomura Nao and Nomura Miyo. Miyo was drafted by Team S and Nao by Team K, both at the same draft. Nao graduated as a kenkyuusei, and Miyo was promoted 2 months later. I don't think Miyo's promotion had anything to do with Nao's graduation, as the graduation happened first. However, Miyo was chosen for a lot of SKE48 songs whereas Nao only participated in 1 single song in the 2 years and 5 months that she was with AKB48, and that was a Janken song. She might have graduated because she didn't get any opportunities, especially compared to her sister.
• Rissen Airi and Rissen Momoka. Airi was part of AKB48 Team 8, Momoka is a member of STU48. In her 2 years with AKB, Airi was only part of 2 songs (one of which was Hanareteitemo, aka the song every single member was part of). Meanwhile, Momoka is a senbatsu member. No wonder Airi thought her career might flourish better elsewhere (she joined a different idol group after AKB)
• Yabushita Shu and Yabushita Fu. Also no need for comparison, Shu (NMB48) graduated a month after Fu joined (STU48), so obviously Shu was more popular and more known at the time.
• Yahagi Yukina and Yahagi Moeka. Yukina was the first of her generation to make SKE48 senbatsu (within 10 months, still a KKS at the time) and got promoted within a year, but then she suddenly graduated. Moeka was promoted after 11 months and then chosen for AKB48 senbatsu after 15 months. I think they both had similarly successful careers that ended quickly, unfortunately, but probably unrelated to one another.

In conclusion, in most cases, the younger sister either doesn't get as popular, or the older sister is on her way out by the time the younger sister comes in. In the case of Rissen Airi and Rissen Momoka though, the younger sister got more popular within her respective group with more opportunities, and I wouldn't be surprised if it led to Airi's decision to leave.

With Aichan getting a push, I believe she has a chance of becoming more popular than Kiichan and I wonder what will happen then. I hope they're close enough as sisters and discussed this beforehand (or will soon) so they can support each other.

Hmmm.. good question, they will have to find their own niches and excels at those I think. Kiichan was on variety route before (appearing in a few AKBINGOs IIRC), but I don't know if she wants to continue there. Aichan seems to be on a more traditional idol route. As long as they have stable job lined up and no other future plans, they will stay.
Popularity is a fickle thing though, it's one thing to get there, but maintaining it is actually the bigger task in my opinion.

Yeah no doubt about it. Aichan also has the knack of leadership it seems so she's really a big asset. I hope they keep the gen together for a while to build more bonds, and not rush to promote them to proper teams. (well management is pushing them as a team quite hard right now anyway)
Oh also we'll see her reaction to missing the POPFES stage soon on showroom.

Yukitan

• Theater no Megami stage
• There is a song that I really really like, and also because I love the Idol-ish feel & songs order

Kokko

• Saka Agari stage
• This was my first time seeing AKB48 stage with my own eyes and the singing, dance and performance of the senpais was so good I got suprised, therefore leaving me with the most impression and I like it a lot.

Aichan

• Te wo Tsunaginagara
• The first time I went to AKB48 Theater, even though there was an 8-member limit, looking at the members doing full-power performance, I can feel everyone's energy, and I feel that's AKB's unique charm. It's thanks to this stage show that I decided to try to stand on the same stage today.

Erichan

• Tadaima Renaichuu
• The stage that is designated as our (17th gen) very first stage, it will always be in our memories. Also I love the songs in the setlist such as [BINGO], [7ji 12fun no Hatsukoi], [Seifuku ga Jama wo suru], so I choose this stage.

Niinan

• Mokugekisha
• Because I want to see cool performances!

Nonchan

• Boku no Taiyou
• My second ever zenza was assigned on this stage. One of reason I choose this is that even though there are many cheerful, happy songs, I really love Itoshisa no Defense. I like the quick (emotion) change from that song to the next one, Himawari.

Yukinee

• Renai Kinshi Jourei
• It has the unit songs I love, Kuroi Tenshi and Tsundere, also Hikoukigumo. I also think the stage itself has adult feel that's charming for me.

Hotechan

• Saka Agari
• Because this is the first stage I saw live.
• Especially [Wagamama no Nagareboshi], it's really cute and I want to perform it one day. I like cool songs, and Saka Agari has a lot of cool songs that I like, so I chose this.

Mayuuchan/Masaru

• Boku no Taiyou
• The first ever stage I ever saw was Boku no Taiyou, I really have fond memories of it. Looking at the senpais singing, dancing and shining brightly, I also want to be like them. Especially I love the song Himawari, when I first listened to it I really felt impressed.

Mizumin

• Idol Shuugyouchuu (アイドル修行中)
• The stage produced by the esteemed Kashiwagi Yuki-san, also it has tons of songs that I love!

Sorara

• Watanabe Mayu's Graduation Stage
• Mayu-san is the one that made me want to become an Idol, so I choose this stage.

Sayonara Mouri #17
Another round of special skills showcases.
Erichan didn't go with her "walking while bridging" thing, but instead showcasing something new, her smelling sensitivity, which she claims is comparable to police dogs. She was able to find her missing handkerchief just by smelling, apparently.
She proves it by identifying her batchmates blindfolded. And then explained how they smell different. Smell Sommelier indeed.

Aichan did a collaboration cheer dance with Hiichan! Also is that one-handed cartwheel?!


Lastly, when senpai members are asked to do some kind of project with 17ki members, Yukirin said she wants to make Nonchan even more beautiful with her self-makeup prowess in a collab.

• It will be on TV Asahi Channel 1, September 23, 22.00 JST.

For those who don't know, Tanabata is a yearly event/festival where people in Japan usually write down their wishes in colorful strips of paper, then hang them on bamboo trees. AKB48 have been doing their own style by putting members' wishes for show on the lobby of the theater.

Hotechan

• I hope I grow taller by 10 cm!

Mizumin

• I hope 17th Gen Kenkyuusei members are loved by a lot of people!

Nonchan

• I hope "Henyorin" merchandise can be made (and sold)! ("Henyorin" is her doodle art drawn on the tanzaku/strip of paper, was also showcased in 17ken show episode 1)

In preparation for the Tadaima Renaichuu stage, from Aug 5 to Aug 16 (11 days),
AKB48 Eizou Souko will host 17ki streams where they'll be answering 100 questions about themselves.
The stream will be individual and randomized each day among the 11 kenkyuuseis.

Nonchan and Niinan had chances to talk about things that irritated them.
Nonchan's was about hanashikai fans saying good things to other members before her, then have nothing to say to her. lol
Niinan's was about her brother that likes to tease her.

DMM LOD will have "17th Gen Kenkyuusei Selection Revival" streams.

Basically from Aug 5 to Aug 16, in preparation for the Tadaima Renaichuu stage, DMM LOD will stream select past theater shows based on the 17ki members' selections.
Side note my heart kinda dropped when I saw the "KENKYUUSEI SELECTION" word, thankfully it wasn't what I thought lol.

• This 10th anniversary show has graduated members, the countdown to 10th anniversary during MC and the [Party ga Hajimaruyo] right after that, I love the flow of the show up to that part. And also Maeda Atsuko-san and Takahashi Minami-san's [Migikata] was also performed, I really really love that one.

• The first ever stage I ever saw was Boku no Taiyou, I really have fond memories of it. Looking at the senpais singing, dancing and shining brightly, I also want to be like them. Especially I love the song Himawari, when I first listened to it I really felt impressed.

• This is the show where I first performed as a zenza.
• The senpais kindly spoke and taught me a lot of things.
• I learned things and rules that I won't know without being an AKB48 member, and again I felt how great AKB48 as an Idol group is. That's why this personally feels like a very important show for me.
• Also one more thing, just by listening to the sound from backstage, I can feel the overwhelming power. I also found songs that I liked, so this Show is totally will always be in my memory.

 

Aichan got selected into Senbatsu for 60th Single "Hisashiburi no Lip Gloss" !!!

Again, congrats Aichan for the first senbatsu in 60th single, first among the 17ki and among the fastest to get into senbatsu from kenkyuusei/being admitted to AKB48!
About 3 months since the official reveal in May.
Still can't beat Jurina for Oogoe Diamond, but I guess she was not AKB so it didn't count? haha

Opinions: You can guess the management wants to create some splash by putting a kenkyuusei in a 16-nin single, hopefully the attention will also spillover to other 17ki members. (and also other AKB members in general too)
Hopefully Aichan will be able to use this chance well! She certainly is not lacking in dance skill (learned Nemohamo in 3 days), appearance and personality!

I believe (and hope) 17ki will have their own song on this single, just like 15th and 16th got theirs, so hopefully they will gather a lot more attention and with a selected member on the main song! Aichan is not only a great dancer, but a very good singer as well. I still remember the first time they performed at the theatre and Aichan was the centre to Oogoe Diamond, her solo part was very stable. I'm glad she's being pushed because she is not only talented, but hardworking.

 

Hopefully this will make up for her having to miss POPFES 2022

Yes I also hope they'll get a good song. Preferably energetic song for me.
Right now she's getting some flak online from other members' fans who feel their oshi got leapfrogged, but people who recognize her efforts are also not few in numbers.
I agree with management decision to include her to increase exposure to the 17ki members. Aichan certainly will get some spotlights on interviews before TV performances.
Usually they will increase the senbatsu spots to accommodate this purpose, but not this time, hence the senbatsu feels a bit tight.

Oh also, Kiichan wrote a supporting notes for Aichan's first senbatsu! source twitter

And then, [My] Satou Airi-chan got selected into Senbatsu!! When she got unsure of whether to apply for the audition, I actually said "You'll get right into senbatsu!" to push her,
(well she's cute so it's obvious but) it turns out my judgment wasn't wrong at all it seems!
Also she's my little sister but slowly it feels that she's becoming everyone's "Aichan"...somehow it feels a bit lonely.
Sorry for being a very "omoi" (closely attached) big sister, but until now and from now on I plan to be the one beside her to see her hard work and growth, after all Airi is the one that understand and support me the most.
from now on she'll gradually experience a world that I myself haven't experienced yet, she'll certainly be hearing a lot of things, but I'll always be Aichan's first and foremost fan, be next to her, always cheering for her.

Ah not yet, tomorrow will be the 10th day since they got infected. It feels so long lol.
Apparently the share house members Hotechan, Mizumin and Erichan ended up staying in hotels (according to showrooms) while Kokko is recuperating.
