To be fair, the current trend for 48G/46G is decreasing sales, with a few exceptions. But overall sales are low compared to pre-pandemic.

This is a good point. Also, AKB’s sales did not drop as much as Nogizaka’s or Hinata’s most recent singles (32k vs 63k and 53k). It seems like every group’s sales numbers are a bit unstable right now thanks to covid, even the most popular two.

    48G itself.
I can't like your post. 48G songs can be great with or without these things.
Quality matters, members matter, marketing strategy matters, luck matters.
AKB48 is a 17 years old band already, it's kind of hard to grow when even younger 46Gs are visibly tanking recently. It's so old that one of its sister group has a member younger than it as latest center.
In 2000, Morning Musume's LOVE Machine sold over 1.2 million copies, but in 2014, a 17 years old Morning Musume's best performing single could only reach 160,798.

Blame the bob cut airdropped center.

This is kinda weird to say it like this, I mean if AKB sold 1,1 million and SKE sold 1 million then I guess you could say it's "only 99k difference". But AKB first day is 288k and SKE first day was 189k, 99k represents like 1/3 of AKB's first day sales and 1/2 of SKE's first day sales. So it's not "only 99k", it isn't that easy for both groups to get 99k more sales, it's big for them.

tbh I don't know why they did 2 dance songs in a row, with similar style... Rumor had a lot more hype due to the long break before + being promoted as the "dance-focused, everyone in-sync" song, and they do the same thing again now, but the song is a bit less catchy and the whole promo around it feels like a deja-vu of 8 months ago. I know that they tried to recreate their success in the past too like with KFC, but at least they wait a few singles to try it (and it still didn't work anyway). Also, I think the member who was standing out the most in Rumor was Yokoyui because of her individuality in dancing, when I read comments back then, she was praised a lot. But in this single, I feel like no one stands out, everyone just does the dance more or less the same way. Maybe that's what they aimed for... but imo it's not very exciting, I didn't watch any of their performances of this song since the first one ._.

I do think the sales will go up in the next days and they also added more events for the end of the year, right? So the numbers will get better. But I hope next single is not dance-focused.

    %]
    Kenkyuusei: 00/10 [00.00%]

I don't have a comparison with this round because I missed it for Ne mo Ha mo Rumor (58th Single)

    * The percentage of tickets is based solely on sold-out slots. The actual number is probably higher but inaccessible to the public.

Note: I put Team 8 members in their concurrent teams because that's how they're listed on the online talk website.

Naaa, it's a "can be improved" marketing strategy, that management should try to target a larger audience instead of going after fans who prefer increasing views and hitting like buttons rather than buying.
Anyway, they are probably planing a long time run like what the sister groups are doing.

I hope it doesn't imply this is going to be the only single of the year.
If so, Sorry Hitomi, you won't walk on the kouhaku stage this year.

It may mean we won't get another single, but not necessarily imo. I remember specifically 11gatsu no Anklet was released in November 2017, and the last handshake event for that single was in August 2018 – meanwhile AKB48 had released 2 singles since then. I remember this mainly because August 2018 was when Tano Yuka had her last handshake event / final activity with AKB48 and 11gatsu no Anklet was the final single she participated in.

I mean, it may still mean we won't get another single this year, but it's not necessarily a confirmation.

Edit: It was for Jabaja, not 11gatsu no Anklet, but they had also already released Teacher Teacher by that time as well. I found the announcement for Tano's final handshakes:

    • May and June 2018: "Bokutachi wa Ano Hi no Yoake wo Shitteiru" handshakes (album was released in January 2018)
    • May, June, July and August 2018: "Jabaja" handshakes (single was released in March 2018)
    • June 2018: "11gatsu no Anklet" handshakes (single was released in November 2017)

Now that we've had all songs to listen to in good quality, my ranking of them is:

Kowasanakya Ikenai Mono (Naachan solo) > Loss of time (Team K) > Yarakasou (Team B) > Moto Kare desu (Senbatsu) > Angie (Team 4) > Okubyou na Namake Mono (Team A)

It's so interesting to see 'only' when regarding morning musume's 2014 releases, because when those first day sales came out, the h!p fandom was ecstatic seeing the group pull those numbers after years of bad sales. 2014 was peak colourful era, an era highly regarded as the renaissance of morning musume. AKB I would say are in more of a 'platinum era' situation, where their songs are good and their performance skills have improved exceptionally, but the sales just aren't there. I can imagine that unlike with morning musume, AKB will find their groove much sooner and the sales will start to pick up again once the whole pandemic situation gets better in japan and the higher ups decide to put more effort into the ground work of targeting a new era of idol fans.

    48G itself.
There is a large difference between these groups.
A 48/46G typically have 40-90s people. MM generally has only a dozen. AKB48 have to feed many more people with it's sales than MM. Girls join this group with high hopes, if the group fails to remain relevant enough, it may lose members and less people will want to join it in the future, further limiting the candidate pool and chance of having future good members.
I think 17th gen must gain relevance asap.

BTW, Mitomo Mashiro is a secret weapon that should be utilized asap too. A new single with her at the cover will attract many people's curiosity, drawing new fans to the group. "Who is this cute girl?" "A new center?" "A fresh face?" "I've never seen her before"

    2 Aggressive dance in row,
    Kinda too soon,
It makes 46group look original while AKB just kinda copying other country group.

They should keep this song for Q3 of the year.

Since they all youngster, they should back to the roots first n absorb other country culture later.

NmHmR hype was about 1st AKB48 only single, single after 1,5 year, now AKB can dance, how great Yokoyui was,....
For Motokare, just another dance song, nothing special, nothing new so maybe that’s why
Can’t agree more. This single lack something unexpected, something can make a boom like Yokoyui last time.

They are generic fillers no doubt, but they don't sound bad because they are playing safe. This on the other hand tried to sound different and ended up sounding so desperately bad. Saying it once is already bad enough, repeating it thrice just K.Os it for me. So cringe ....

Well at the end music is, to each his own. So I guess could be just me. But honestly yuck man, worst AKB song in the last few years at least for me.
