I feel like this is one of the most interesting ironies of the idol business: they sing about love and flaunt themselves in our faces, but in the end they aren't yours for the taking and aren't even contractually allowed to participate in a relationship. I'm sure it's a lie that many of them are virgins, but they work to hide that. I think the beauty of it all is the whole concept of an idol personality: a cover of one's real self for commercial benefit.

I hope I'm not saying anything I shouldn't, but I actually said something similar a while ago (about the girls selling sex but unable to partake in it), and was PM'd by a certain someone who has friends in the idol management industry who have actually said that it's okay for them to have sex, just no boyfriends.

That's interesting.
I agree 100% with what you say in your whole post.

But the reason why I was curious about ithebigc's stance on the matter is because virginity and purity seem to be a belief of his (I repeat: I don't judge and I respect people who strongly believe in something).
So, it's entirely different from why Japanese fans would rather their idols abstain. A wota knows the game. Idols need to be symbols of purity in life, but can be explicit and sexually enticing in songs, because it's alluring to them to fantasize over and because songs are not necessarily a reflection of the idols' behaviour. But that's because Japanese wota don't place particular values on abstinence - they just don't want THEIR idol to do it because they feel comforted in thinking that as they are faithful to her, she will be faithful to them.
Whereas, in ithebigc's case virginity before wedding is seen as a big, important value. If I valued abstinence and purity, I just couldn't support songs that, reflective of the idols' true behaviour or not, go against what I believe in. That was the meaning of my question.

Good thing to see Yuimin up pretty darn high, despite her being out of action for almost a year now.

Fairly disappointed at the lack of overall support for the SKEs though... Not surprised about the load of Jurina hate, 'cause apparently people just can't forgive and forget (or, god forbid, have legitimate reasons to hate ), but the overall low placement of the girls is my concern. Believe it or not, I knew about SKE48 (and grew to love them) before I even knew about AKB48... So I can probably see more in them than the people who loved AKB before SKE even existed. Despite that, I still have much to learn. But I would have loved to give SKEs my support. (and minused some AKBs [devil]) Perhaps I'll have the 'credentials' next year.

In my eyes, SKE48 has much potential for greatness from here on out, especially considering the singles seem to be getting better. Maybe then, just maybe, will the girls get their due credit.

^hating someone is completely relative, especially when it comes to idols. I don't hate any of the current members but I can see how people might dislike any of them, and well, regardless of what we as fans might say, for the people who dislike the girls their reason to do so must be valid.

EDIT: And sorry if I sound like I'm talking back to you or something, I really don't intend to ^^; but I just wanted to point this out.

And YAY SKE! I voted for Airi and Rikako!

Probably I am the only one here that thinks this way:

Not liking =/= Disliking =/= Hating.


For the first: Reason?, anything you want from "because" to "whatever".

For the second: Reason?: Anything that can actually be explained and accepted.

For the third: Reason?: That person had to actually do something to you that affected you in a direct way.


But again... that's probably just me.

I'll say it again, I doubt anyone really hates any idol. Like, investing time of your life just thinking about how much you HATE a girl or losing sleep about it when its someone you don't even know seems pretty extreme. I think "dislike" is as far as things can go.

And then again, I'll use my own example.

the idol I dislike the most is Hagiwara Mai from C-ute. I can't even bear watching their PVs because I absolutely rage whenever I see Hagiwara. Why is it? I think she's a spoiled brat and she thinks she's better than anyone else. Also, her whole gimmick with the huge sunglasses and that weird fake voice she used to talk in when she was like 8 completely annoyed me. Are these reasons valid? Probably not. Hell, I don't even know her personally, this is just the way she comes off as to me. But they are valid to me, because no matter what people say, I still see all that in her and I can't stand her.

If I remember correctly, in 2008 Oku(age 12) got the least vote(after some people took away her points)
2010, Jurina(13) had some people took her points

Seems that we dislike kids who barely exist and kids that exist too much [rofl] Am I wrong?

My bad if it sounded like I was saying people really despise Jurina's guts; I tend to use hate as a general term for disliking someone. I agree, there are certainly different levels of dislike, but, probably as a result of popular culture (and me originally listening to rap ) I use 'hate' more than I should.
