Fujiyoshi Karin (Karin) / 2nd Generation

She has turned 21. And her performance in this weekend's ep10 of the "Azatokute nani ga warui no?" drama shows her as a mature actor playing a mature young woman -- whom she adds in an interview is not her, but the character. I can't find out how to actually watch the episode (it's on Abema TV), but the stills look powerful. She is the star of the episode, even though she is not the star of the series.

Here is a page of stills, from a show in which a group of personalities watch and talk about the episode. In the first group, she is in a bar and the bartender asks her if she's okay. She reveals that she has just broken up with her boyfriend. Then we see a series of her meeting the boyfriend, then in an outdoor series agreeing to be his girlfriend. Then we see them in his or her apartment, talking. He says they hardly ever see each other and asks her if he is necessary to her, if she really loves him. He eventually suggests they break up and she, after scenes of thought, quietly agrees. There are scenes both then and in the bar where she is talking with the bartender. She tells the bartender she doesn't understand love, never really wanted to be in love...but if the right person comes along....

Here are some stills, first when they meet and when he asks her to be his girlfriend. Then when they are parting. Then when she tells the bartender she doesn't regret breaking up, but actually feels relieved.



The producer says she and the actor playing the boyfriend did their main scene in one perfect take. He says how fascinated and moved he was by her performance. Perhaps this is the start of a real acting career for Karin.

Here is a video in which Karin watches her scenes and reacts to them. She says she feels embarrassed, but assures people this is not her, but the character she plays.

Huge news for Karin: she made such an impression in her first acting role that she has been given the starring role in the next Azatokute nani ga warui series.







The new series -- the sixth Azatokute nani ga warui series -- will begin Sunday 9 October at 11:55 am and will be broadcast every Sunday. Karin will play the director of the Azatokute series (!?).

Great little video here. So amazingly cute and real. She seems quite chuffed: proud and happy, despite being nervous. Recording has already begun.

I think she says in the ModelPress interview that she expected acting to be like performing live, but it is quite different: you're not expressing your own feelings, but the character's. It's difficult.

She never thought of seeing her performance on TV, and when she did she found the character so cool and was rather attracted (laughs).

She hasn't done that much work outside of Sakurazaka work, and when she's working with Sakurazaka, the adults around her keep saying she's being weird. She's glad to expand her performance into other areas. I may be misinterpreting, but I sometimes suspect that the staff doesn't really get her, and doesn't realize the wonderful things they could get from her if they saw further.

Also, just found this TikTok clip of Karin doing part of Masatsu Keisu（”Coefficient of Friction").

And Karin on last Sunday's SokoSaku carefully making her way through a cat's cradle 3D maze without touching any of the many bells hung on the ropes that make the maze. She went slowly, over 5 minutes, with great physical control and awareness. Two others tried (Inoue and Kousaka), but touched bells within seconds.




Before one of the little contests the show was made of, Karin was asked how she felt about coming up against her opponent. She drily said: "Looks like I'll beat her." Sudden swagger?

Would have preferred to actually hear Karin laugh instead of that song they put in, but seeing it was good.

It's been a long time since I was last on her page, but wow, it feels like she has really matured and grown so much over the last few years.

 

One of the highlights of the Sugai Yuuka graduation concert was a version of Naze Koi in which Karin flew above the stage in a harness and wires: 1-flying, 2-landing, 3-pleased (click/tap images to enlarge).



Showed her great physical ability, like the cat's cradle gymnastics on SokoSaku, shown above. And also courage.

As @Heelo says above, she has matured in the last while. That's what the Azatoi staff says, commenting on this new video, in which she says that despite being a shy person, she has learned to stand on her own, to go to outside work without her manager coming with her. And it has been surprisingly okay. You can see in her eyes, and her manner, that she feels more at ease. But she still seems straightforward, not putting on a show, just thinking about the questions and saying what she feels.
