i wouldnt say im disagree with this. but maybe i've a different viewpoint and need to correct a little bit of this. was your point is women college student / young professionals which was only casual fans or its literally female wota ?

if talk about more casual / teenagers fans , sure age wasnt did really matter. whats the matter is how certain idol build her own images. one certain way is the fashion and modelling related routes were sure pretty good. akarin is already 22 yo. been in the group for 8 years. and she's far ahead from lot of idols in this circle fandoms , even i could say she's far away from some of Nogi girls.

due to my own activities , i've lived with those college students/young professionals girls you've mentioned it. what i can say that almost every one like akarin. like i mean is REALLY LIKE. is just simply because she build her images with her styles + YT channels.

Japanesse , especially girls were really like to shopping. and not all of them usually really attached to high level international brand. did you watch her vids ? she's not bringing all those expensive stuffs , thousands dollar of makeups. but she brings a 'cheap' stuff that almost every teenagers / girl could buy. that's one of particular reason she become really popular among the girls.

but otoh , focussing too much with building teenager / woman fans could hurt the ojisaan fans. which in AKB i believe they need them for powervotes them on ssk tho ? so its all up to your choice ( and sure AKS willingness to make deal for certain girls ).

Akarin's SOLO Zipper MV has more than 1M views, like... not even news coverage of major idol group get that much view. She really has an interesting way to market herself, and the demographic of female YT watchers are mostly JK with moderate income so all the stars are really lining up for her. Ngl, she really has come far from the days when she got dropped out of senbatsu because of that mishap.

In the long run, unless she ruins herself by making some sort of really bad scandal, she's gonna do really well. SSK rank only matters when you're in the group anyway, once you're out, nobody cares unless you're Kami 7 or senbatsu. We all know some ranked members who fade into oblivion after their graduation.
