Yeah, I agree that it must be a boom mike and probably why the audio is inconsistent. Boom mikes have limitations which is why I think they should use lapels instead.

Some of her jokes are flat. And her facial expression doesn't change throughout. I'd probably watch more episodes to get a feel for her although I do think she's workable as a host.

 

From what I understood, the girls were told that they were going to meet with sponsors. If they had been given lapel microphones beforehand, they would have known that something was up. Now that they know, they SHOULD get those microphones now... but I doubt the budget will allow it. Or whoever’s in charge thinks that we want to hear laugh tracks and annoying sound effects, instead of, you know, MNL48 members.

I agree about the teacher. She seemed... off, somehow. Like she didn’t know, or hadn’t decided yet, what her character was supposed to be like. But pilot episodes are like that for pretty much every series, with similar issues to work out, so it’s understandable. I wish she had given a stronger performance, but maybe she’ll settle more into whoever she’s supposed to be as the series progresses.

 

I also agree....maybe I also expected too much because it really feels like mechaike and I watched too much mechaike most likely when akb48 is there...

I wish that if they would make a show that is an akbingo-like show I hope they can find a host that would be much like how badboys host akbingo...

 

As usual the management didn't learn yesterday. Still no video for Episode 2.

EDIT: Not subbed yet, so I'll have to wait until some time in the future when it gets subbed. However the annoying sound effects are still there and this actually looks like it might have been within a few minutes of yesterday's episode so why did it take so long to edit and upload?

I wonder how they’re gonna hold up translating the show when the pilot episode doesn’t even have subs yet and new episodes pop up everyday :O

 

Okay, just saw ep 2 and the only things worth noting for me are:

1. Ella further reinforcing her baka status within the group, and

2. Sela' poor handwriting

That teacher is still not doing well. It seems a lot of times she doesn't know what to say. Her banters really don't have good punchlines and comedic timings. *smh* Well, I can't blame her if she's not a comedian or innately funny irl. I just hoped they just employed some pro comedian that was correctly oriented.

That being said, anyone has an idea how many employees/staff HHE has? Not sure about budget being a huge issue, but for sure, with all the mishaps we are seeing, it seems the management is understaffed (if the staff they have are not inspired/dedicated to the cause, it's a double whammy).

Oh well, in a perfect world, HHE and/or ABS are employing wotas or at least those who have an idea about the Japanese idol industry. MNL48 is working like a well-oiled machine right about this time.

 

There are different kinds of "staff". There are those attending the girls directly, there are those in charge of logistics, there are people in charge of the merchandise, and there are people in charge of the IT, plus others teams. I only ever really have issues with those in charge of the IT, the page, and the upload of these videos.

Regarding HHE employing wotas as staff, that's what fans want to see, but being a staff has nothing to do with knowing about idols or the culture or being a wota. That should arguably be best suited in high-level positions like the planners, organizers, and producers. Boots on the ground need only to be competent in their assigned tasks. Security has the job of keeping the girls safe to and from engagements, close-in staff attends to the girls' needs and generally tells them what to do, the managers tell the staff what to do, PR people are in charge of promoting events, and the merchandise folks man the stalls.

If anything, HHE would naturally be suspicious of hiring wota or idol fans on any position that will bring them into close contact with the girls or access to their official social media accounts due to possible conflict of interest. Especially since coming into close contact with the girls is precisely what every fan really wants. I'm not saying it is not possible, but an applicant will be judged based on his qualifications for the job, rather than for being a fan.

If I am hired by Hallohallo, I wouldn't be able to write about them anymore. That and my skills can best serve them on a planning/organizational level, but I don't have the necessary credentials to be considered for the role (credentials are everything in the business world). And at my age, doing grunt work will likely kill me at some point.

I actually like where I am at the moment because I can enjoy the group's performances (both as a fan and as a writer) without having to worry about how we're going to escort the girls out of the building. When you're staff, you don't really get to enjoy these events that much. There's just too many things going on in your head for you to relax and enjoy. Being staff is hard work that is often under-appreciated by everyone, and most of them are really nice people who just have a job to do.

But what you said has merit, we need more people behind the scenes who actually care for MNL48. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like HHE is hiring at the moment.

 

Yeah, while I was translating, the teacher’s jokes aren’t really getting to me Maybe just me. The awkward sound effects also need some fixing.

I have so much free time atm because I took a semester off so I spend my time loitering around and end up just translating lol. On the bright side, it tests my English and Tagalog skills, I learn about the girls, improve my typing skills and it kills my boredom so it’s a win-win situation for me

Good job! You are the one who did that long transcript of episode 1, right? Although have you tried learning to edit as well? It would be great if you can go straight to subbing.

I wish. I’ve been typing everything on an iPad while I listen to the audio on my phone. I’ve translated a couple of MNLife episode and sent it to a subbing team instead with that kind of setup rip... I haven’t touched a PC for 4 months now since I left my place. I’ll try it out once I get back

 

So far the 3 episode gave me lots of Lols. Yeah some humor are off but despite that I had a good laugh so I'm not complaining. I prefer that than watching them hammer each other's head.
