They just performed Kikkake on Kōhaku Uta Gassen.

Why Nogi performed Kikkake? I thought they will choose Cheat Day or Houdokyo. Tbh, Houdokyo is a perfect song for Kouhaku.

 

Probably the song was decided earlier. They have been releasing singles in December in the past 3 years and none of those were performed at Kouhaku.
This year's theme was "a song for you", so maybe they thought Kikkake fits that more than Cheat day. In case I agree with them and not just because Kikkake is one of my favorites from Nogi

 

This has been an excellent choice if may say... The song is Uber any way you examine it, melody, lyrics, sense of calmness, sweet nostalgia and contemplation... It's a healer song and it's meant to be Nogizaka and what Nogizaka stands for...

 

They performed Kikkake on previous Kohaku, right? I thought they will choose the different songs. For example, Hane no kioku or Nandome. I believe Nogi has many song that fit that theme.

I'm sure many songs would have fit the theme.
Maybe Kikkake has some level of public recognition because it was covered by the singer of Mr. Children years ago and Nogi performed it with the singer of Mrs. Green Apple last year.

I think you're right. After reading more, NHK choose the song based on public recognition and their survey.
But, I can say Ohitorisama was amazing because it was chosen for previous Kouhaku. I think that is the only "new" Nogi song that performed on Kouhaku.

Need to add that this was the smallest amount of members to do the Nogi shrine ceremony, but it isn't necessarily the smallest group -- Yoda/Hayakawa would've been too if not for COVID.

Since today's the birthday of Ikuta, Ichiki, and Shinuchi, I was reminded that Nogi has several dates where multiple members share birthdays. Besides today, there's August 20 shared by Shiraishi, Akimoto, and Iroha, and October 31 shared by Kanagawa and Satsuki.

Am I missing any? I'm just going off of memory...

Been out of the loop regarding Nogi and its members for many years. What are the recommended shows/YT channels to get to know the current members? Checked that KoujiChuu is still ongoing, at least.

As for other shows, 5th Gen has Super Star Tanjou on late on Mondays. There's their subscription channel NogiDouga. The only other show I know is Tokyo Computer club with Yoshida, Hayashi, and Yumiki. And then don't forget their official YouTube channel for many MVs and other member videos...

 

I have a real newbie question for you, guys: where do you get pictures like these? Are they included in CDs or do they get released every month somewhere, or ...?

 

Yes. Both are correct.
