An article on Nikkan Sport about NGT48 Miyajima Aya. She mentioned that she talked to Takamina in 2015 (two months after NGT48 debuts). She was worried about being part of NGT but Takamina reassured and gave her advise by her telling her everyone in the group have similar worries and struggles and Miyajima should try hard for at least 3 years. And after two years she was able to ranked 70. She remembered Takamina's words to work hard and try her best.

It has to do with a story that Minami has told on more than one occasion, including in her Leader Ron book. Here's a very roughly translated section from the book:

Spoiler: From Ch. 2

When I first started with the group, I was someone who remained at the bottom of the barrel. There is one embarrassing story that I would like to share. Since I wanted to be a singer, I practiced singing at karaoke, but I had never properly danced in my life. I couldn’t dance at all during the audition, and wasn’t able to learn the moves that were assigned. I couldn’t even do any of the steps correctly. This is something I found out later, but apparently the judges at the final audition discussed among themselves that there was one girl that was so excruciatingly bad that they almost couldn’t bear to watch. The month following the audition was hell. We had to learn the dances for 13 songs in a month. The dance instructor/choreographer for AKB48 at the time, Natsu Mayumi sensei, was extremely ‘Spartan,’ and everyone was scolded on a daily basis. One day, Natsu sensei stopped the practice, stared towards where I was, and said, ‘one of you can’t dance, so the choreography will have to change.’ Because I was so terrible, the entire team’s choreography had to be simplified. That was a huge shock. I was incredibly dejected.

After that I practiced even harder than before, every single day. I would go home, play back the DVD recording of the choreography, and would practice on my own until the morning. Never before in my life had I devoted myself so hard to a single task. I was so distressed and pained by it all, but on the other hand I told myself, ‘this was the life that you wanted for yourself.’ One day, about a year later, Natsu sensei looked towards my direction during a dance lesson and said, ‘why can’t everyone dance like Takahashi?’ Looking back, what a happy memory.

Natsu's account of this is a bit different. To preface, she rates Minami as #1 among all her students when it comes to making earnest eye contact, something she considers quite important when communicating. And when she was making that remark about the choreography needing to be changed because there is someone who just cannot keep up, she wasn't talking about anyone in particular, but was just saying it to the entire group to emphasize that the overall level of dance skills for everyone was quite low. But what seems to have happened was that Minami's eyes met Natsu's when this was being said, and she automatically assumed that it was directed at her. In the end, it seems like it sort of became a blessing in disguise, since she was able to learn to overcome her adversity and forge ahead. Natsu goes on to talk about how sensitive Minami is about 'words,' which enables her to absorb great many things, which may have helped her grow into her soukantoku role for the AKB48 groups.

it doesn't surprise me that Takamina became a great leader for akb. aside from the hard work, it seems to me(from what i saw anyway) that she's a very emotional girl (cries easily) and this connected her to basically every girl in the group on a deeper level.
