So being an actress is a priority rather than experienced in hosting a show for being NHK Kouhaku MC? That is really confusing

 

It's like a achievement reward for those aiming for actress and to be at such event ( though ...yea ... makes me wonder too )

 

don't think that it is a reward (being chosen to star in asadora is a reward in and of itself ), it's more like a trend of the past 15 years - a successful formula that started with Nakama Yukie (2005, 2006, 2008, 2009). a few years before her it was simply announcers. looks like Nakama's hosting after announcers was so well received that she was not only appointed as a host for (almost) 4 years in a row, but she also has given NHK producers an idea of using young and popular actresses that are hot right now as Kouhaku hosts since then. and what better place to look for those actresses than in NHK's very own popular TV series - asadoras. asadoras = "it girl" + heartwarming family story, a 100% match with NHK Kouhaku needs.

so after Nakama Yukie's "reign" an era of asadora's heroines began:

2012 Horikita Maki (Umechan Sensei)
2013 Ayase Haruka (Yae's Sakura - taiga, another NHK's super popular brand series)

as you can see, it's basically exclusively asadora heroines with some Ayase Harukas here in there when asadora heroines weren't used for some reason.
so in order for Sasshi to become a host of NHK Kouhaku it looks like she has to become the lead actress in asadora (or taiga drama) first or beat "the gatekeeper" Ayase Haruka in popularity which is also HIGHLY unlikely since Ayase is nation's sweetheart and FAR more popular than Sasshi (at least for now).

the only real opportunity for Sasshi to become Kouhaku's host I see is for NHK to change their golden formula themselves. and honestly I don't see any reason for them to do it. at least right now, as it seems to work just fine. unless something extraordinary happens, like with male Kouhaku host. Johnny's idols simply dominated it but with Johnny's death and Arashi's and SMAP's disbandments looks like their power/popularity significantly decreased and this year red team will have a non-Johnny host for the first time in the last decade (actor Oizumi Yo)! so yeah, let's hope for a change in trend or Sasshi skyrocketing in popularity

PS: as for Sasshi's advantage because of her experience as MC, it looks like it's not so significant in this case, because Kouhaku is HEAVILY scripted. announcers and actresses are probably better suited for this job because smoothly reading scripts is their forte. Sasshi is a prodigy when it comes to a free talk, when she expresses her own thoughts, but she's not that good when she has to read the script (this could be the main reason why she doesn't like acting - trying to be someone other than herself just isn't her thing). this could also be one of the reasons why female comedians/talents hadn't become Kouhaku hosts since 1995!
