Last July I saw a commercial for the Team 8 Tokushima auditions on TV and my mother said “You like idols, so you should audition.” I always loved idols and wanted to become one, but I didn’t really have the courage to try. But I was in my third year as a high school student, so I felt this was my last chance to audition. Then when I passed it was like a feeling of you really want me?! (lol) I passed in late August, and then had my debut on September 10th, so less than two months from when I actually auditioned and I hadn’t even come to terms with what was going on yet.

All of the new members get along well. I made a LINE group with the Hiroshima prefecture representative Okumoto HInano-chan, the Saga prefecture representative Kawahara Misaki-chan, and the Oita prefecture representative Yamada Kyoka-chan called “Obaka-chanzu.” We haven’t added the Shimane prefecture representative Okuhara Hinako-chan yet, but I feel like she’ll probably become a part of it soon (lol). It always feels like Misaki-chan and Hinano-chan just talk about whatever they feel like while Kyoka-chan and I just watch over them (lol).

A Tokushima newspaper printed a story about my activities in Team 8, but it made a bigger splash than I was expecting and all of my friends and teachers told me they read it (lol). Tokushima has whirlpools and the Awa Dance Festival, the air and food are both delicious, so I want to do my best to get more people to know about it.

New Face: Meeting With The Newly Joined Members


Nice to meet you! The new Team 8 members this year!



We’ve gathered together the four members who joined in 2017! To those of you who are grieving over your oshimen’s graduation, please look here for a new member to follow!


Harumoto: The first of us to debut was Missa, right?


Kawahara: Yeah. On August 8th.


Okumoto: For me it was September 2nd.


Harumoto: And then I was September 10th.


Okuhara: I was November 19th.


Harumoto: Somehow, it still feels like we all debuted at the same time.


-----So please tell us about what sort of people the others are.


Kawahara: Okay, I’ll start with Hinako-chan. She’s a really free person.


Harumoto: She sure isn’t shy. The first time we met was pretty amazing. She just suddenly asked me “You wanna go to the convenience store?” (lol) She even asked that while she was looking at her phone.


Kawahara: Really? But Okumoto-sama is pretty amazing, too. When I first met her, I thought she came off as being really serious, but when I told her “You don’t have to speak to me so formally” she asked me “You wanna take a bath?” Before then she’d always ask like “Would you care to take a bath?” (lol)


Okumoto: No~ It’s because I respect Kawahara-senpai~.


Kawahara: Uh, yeah, you definitely don’t.


Harumoto: You really aren’t shy at all, huh. When we first met she hugged me.


Okumoto: Heh heh heh. Well, that’s because I’m a genius.


Harumoto: She’s the type who won’t do something if she doesn’t know if she can, but will do it once she knows it’s okay.


Okumoto: Yeah, because I’m a genius.


Kawahara: Geez, how many times are you gonna say that? Yuki-chan is like the mother to the rest of us.


Okumoto: Yeah. She’s our guardian.


Kawahara: Yep. But she’s also the one who gets teased the most.


Harumoto: Yeah, they make fun of me. Sometimes when I say something, no one will even acknowledge it. You’re so mean. (lol)


Kawahara: Heeheehee. You’re just jumping to conclusions. (lol) To everyone reading this, we’re not bullying her at all--


-----It’s because she’s the oldest, right?


Okumoto: Is she? I didn’t know that.


Harumoto: I already graduated from high school, you know!


Okuhara: Huh, I don’t think you look it at all. I’m a middle school third year.


Okumoto: I’m also middle school third year.


Kawahara: I’m high school first year.


Harumoto: Our relationship with each other is just so casual, we don’t really notice that there’s such an age difference. I won’t graduate until these three have grown up into wonderful young ladies.


Okumoto: So in other words if we grow up into wonderful young ladies you’ll have to graduate? In that case, everyone, never grow up.


Okuhara: Sounds good.


Harumoto: Oi. (lol)


-----What kind of person is Kawahara Misaki-san?


Okumoto: The biggest impression she gives off is that she’s serious.


Kawahara: People say that a lot.


Okumoto: Well they’re wrong.


Harumoto: When Nonnon messes around, Missaa is the one to join in. I just watch over everyone. (lol)


Kawahara: That’s not true. I don’t mess around with anyone!


Okuhara: Yeah, and I’m the one who watches over everyone.


Harumoto: True, you are the type who doesn’t really get caught up with everyone just because they’re all excited.


Okuhara: Mhm. That’s right.


Okumoto: Hinako-chan you should join in! We need to add you to our LINE group chat.


-----What’s the name of this group?


Kawahara: It’s “Obaka-chanzu.”


Harumoto: Also Yamada Kyoka-chan is in it, but mostly Nonnon and Missaa are the ones talking.


Okuhara: It’s okay, you don’t need to add me. (lol)


Okumoto: We talk seriously about important things, too. Like global warming and stuff.


Okuhara: That’s most definitely a lie.


Kawahara: Well from now on, we’ll change the group name to “Majimenzu”!


Okuhara: Serious people wouldn’t name their group chat that.


-----When you stay in the same hotel room, what is it like?


Kawahara: We go over the choreography.


Harumoto: I’m bad at remembering it, so they always teach me. I’m the only one who doesn’t have dance experience, so.


Kawahara: It’s fine. We’ll keep teaching you as clearly as we can.


Harumoto: Missaa is really strict. Even when I think I learned it, she goes “It’s still wrong.”


Kawahara: It’s more like “Hmm, just a little bit more” while crossing my arms.


Okumoto: She looks like a teacher when she does that (lol)


Kawahara: But the four of us are often put together. We joined at the same time, so we’re at ease with each other.


Harumoto: It’s scarier when we’re alone, so.


-----Wouldn’t it be amazing if someday all four of you were chosen for senbatsu together?


All: Whoa!


Okumoto: We wouldn’t be able to lose if that happened!


Kawahara: Before that, I want us to do a unit together at a tour concert!


Harumoto: That sounds nice~! But, I think we shouldn’t because we’re all new.


Okumoto: Yeah. We have to learn how to talk properly with our senpais and get along with them, too. Before this, we had a fruit party, right?


Kawahara: Yeah! I was with Kyoka-chan, and…


Harumoto: I was with Runba-chan… Runba-chan is a really good senpai who talks to all of the new members.


Kawahara: We bought and ate a ton of fruits. I was super sleepy, though.


Harumoto: Yeah, I made you wake up. Like I kept saying “It’s the fruits party, wake up!”


Kawahara: The fruit cake was so delicious.


-----What sort of conversation did this turn into? (lol) I hope the four of you someday get big!


Harumoto: Got it! First we’ve got to start with catching up with the senpai in Eight.


Okumoto: Leave it to us We have our kennin positions, too, so there are many things I’m worried about, but we’ll do our best together!
