But I get your points. You're all fans, it doesn't matter how they get their sales, at the end of the of the week oricon reports 300k and HKT gets the headlines and the hype for a few days. And that's fine.

Oricon is extremely meaningless and misleading but I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I don't think the knee-jerk reaction by some people (not you Sakura) whenever this is brought up is warrented.

 

I just can't help but wonder, if you claim you like music in general, then why would the popularity of the artists matter?

If it's just the music, why would it matter if it's popular or not.

In where I'm from, AKB is virtually unknown, I still like listening to their songs (i love pop songs) even though people around me do not know or care about AKB.

If you want to know what's really popular, look at Recochoku or even iTunes. Oricon hasn't been a great indicator for overall popularity in YEARS, especially nit with singles. Digital is the way to go if you want to know overall popularity, especially among the youth of Japan.

If you really want to know, I actively follow digital charts. Nishino Kana's Darling has been really popular. And, funny enough, Kana consistently sells about 30k physical copies each single but slays Recochoku.

 

And she might only 30k or even sell less on Recochoku and/or itunes. Without sales data digital is useless as a gauge of popularity and I think it's pretty telling that they don't release the data for digital. If digital was selling well the record companies wouldn't be shy about telling everyone.

Sure this isn't just a 2ch prank? The kouhaku lineup isn't usually announced till much nearer the broadcast.

 

From what I can tell, that is nothing more than a prediction page created by a Kouhaku fan. The predictions are subjected to major changes each update. The next update will be on 8 Nov.

 

Last week "Hikaeme" sold 10057 ranked up from 26 the week before to 13. Did something crazy happened?
