I said this before too: I would eat my shoe before defending S&F, but they were out of options on this one.

Frankly I'm not even sure she will get the flowers at the end of a KeyaKake episode treatment. What a sad end to a hardworking idol's career, but it is what it is.

No, no I know you don't think like that
Honestly, her blog sounded so... cold to me as well.
But her actions did not. She has never been the smart one, and yet she had never given anything but love to Keyaki, even knowing she didn't belong to popular members. So it's easy for me think she made this choice presuming it would be better than openly dating someone normal.
    Totally Nijika lol
But not explain that? Not even apologizing? That's sounded so not like Nijika I really don't know what to think

@gish0046 I find amazing how it's always "bullshit" when something doesn't suit our point of view. Also, it may say something that my post affected you this much.

@rdamon42 I think there're always options.. as long as one want to find them. Keyakitte is closing as well or changing, like you said they can use that and spare 2 minutes at the end of an episode to give flowers to Nijika and say goodbye. Nothing more. But at least something after 5 freaking years

Pon aroused the crowd at concerts asking something like "Do you guys want to get/be baka-er than Nijika?" (yes, some Japanglish there)... Who will she name instead?

Also, who will be the member doing the last bow at concerts?

Seriously, the whole thing with Nijika is just sad.

Ten-chan is the current Baka Queen, but she's probably too young still to name drop like that. Rikopi came in 2nd so she's a possibility and we still haven't seen an academic test from the 2.5 gen but if I had to guess Kira seems a likely candidate to secure baka honors.

Her graduation didn’t come unexpected, but I hope she’s going to stay in entertainment industry, and do something related to singing, even if it’s just youtube. We haven’t listened to her pretty voice enough.

Yeah, I always felt that her singing ability was underappreciated. I remember when Hiragana and Kanji Keyaki did a joint karaoke episode on Keyakake, I was the most impressed by Nijika, even more than with Pon and Kyoko.

Sad to hear that got removed just before the end of kyz46. I kind of wished that bunshun would have hold back the story until the final concert.
Especially by the sound of it, she was really invested into the group.
I blame the management. They should either released her way earlier from her contract or after the final show, but just so close before the end, that must be devastating for her.

Why is it so hard to believe that they are actually a couple? Why do you guys adult she ya paying him? It’s almost as if you guys know her personally

The last few pages I’m includes a ton of jumping to conclusions about someone you don’t know personally. You only know the image they portray

I always liked her, and felt sympathy with/for her. Although sometimes she was so negative she made me feel negative. At first she seemed ugly to me, then ugly-but-beautiful, and now just beautiful. I want to believe her post that she found something she wanted to do more. And I want to believe the relationship is/was a real one, between two people who sell themselves to the public and have that in common. I like the idea that he visited her after his work-day, not as part of it.

Here's hoping that she's finding her own path. After all, she's still only 23, with a background as part of a very popular idol group.

Maybe because he's a male escort? And this is how he makes his living?

You are right though, we will never fully know for sure. Either way, I wish we had some news about Niji, or at least she can open her SNS.

It's funny because this brings be back to Keyakitte Kakenai - Episode 10 with the psychological test about their true personalities.

Ishimori's cake was bright yellow and green; signifying that her pathway in life could spiral way off course. She shed some real tears and said that as of late, she wasn't sure of the direction in which her life was going.

You weren't wrong, baby girl. You weren't wrong. But I won't judge...because we're all human with our desires. That's the reality with idols like good ol' Nijika here. She'll be alright. [hehe]

Nijipon's exit from Keya was one of the saddest ones (no flowers?!). Even Manaka and Oda, with their "scandals", got flowers in a "proper" (for Keya standards) send-off.

And she didn't even read her farewell, it was read by the announcer for her.

It must have been something super big and bad for them to do that.

Perhaps there is more to the story that meets the eye. She was "dating" or "seeing" this district celeb for about a year.

In all my following up on J-Pop idols, I've never heard of a Sakamichi idol doing that before. Perhaps the details of her meetings could be leaked and it would look bad on the other members, so a speedy exit was her way of saving the reputation of Sakurazaka46; as well as her own.

Its because the guy was a host. Not even a Shibuya host or a Roppongi host. A Kabukicho host. Tokyo's red light district.

And they weren't even dating, he was just going to her apartment at night and leaving in the morning. The implication being that the entire "relationship" was just sex. And since a host's raison d'etre is to get women to give them money, the probability that she was paying him is high.

Sorry to slide in, but I feel like people are being disingenuous when they act like they don't understand why Nijika's graduation is different from the others. Like, its obvious lol.

There are many ways to interpret this incident.

    The facts are:
Nijika has been seeing this host for a year. The dates always happen in her home.
Maybe it was just sexual relationship, but it’s not rare for celebrities to have home dates to prevent being found out.

How their relationship got exposed was due to the host’s ‘other’ woman, who found out the existence of Nijika. The host then alerted Nijika that their relationship might be found out. Nijika then told the staff about the entire relationship.

Some higher ups frowned upon the incident. Not only because it’s scandalous for an idol to be engaged with any form of relationship; but what if, the host got infected with Covid due to meeting all the different clients at work, and infected Nijika, and Nijika spread the virus to the rest of Keyaki. That could have been a huge problem, and oh so very scandalous.

From my own speculation, if Nijika was really emotionally invested into the relationship, she herself could potentially be in a complete wreck when that happened. Overnight, she found out that man she’s seeing is cheating on her, she lost her career as an idol, and she probably had to struggle with all the judgments that she must have faced from herself, her peers, her family and her co-workers.

Just the former alone would crush anyone.
Perhaps she just didn’t have the strength to go on public to be further speculated on or humiliated. Which also could explain about her abrupt blog post that marked the end of her time with keyaki. Maybe she just didn’t want to talk about it.

Very well put. It could also be why she is waiting until she opens her SNS accounts, she will just be bombarded with questions about this.

Anyway I wish Niji can recover from this, personally.

    Emph mine.

An expose of that sort is enough an humiliation to preclude her having any sort of public graduation.

On the other hand, one might ask, why do such seedy places get patronized by the Japanese (men and women) and even by seemingly respectable businessmen and office workers without any consequence?

This is one of the contradictions that many outside of East Asia do not get. The matter of face and more importantly, what you do at home and what you do in public are separate. You can be a highly respected teacher/doctor/businessman in the day, but god forbid that the rest of the world knows that you like being stripped naked, tied up in ropes, and whipped by a leather wearing dominatrix in a sex bar. You just get your whippings behind closed doors, and the rest of the society doesn't want to know about it. You certainly do not wa

If the (more traditional) Chinese care so much about "face", the Japanese take it to the extreme.

In her defense, we don't entirely know the nature of the relationship. I doubt she'd ever tell her side of her story in public. It's not like she was caught dating someone from school, so the response from the fans/public are going to be more negative than positive. Hence I doubt she'd want to revisit the entire thing in public; she doesn't strike me as someone who doesn't give a shit about how other people view her.

But yes, money almost certain to have been transacted early in their relationship. I highly doubt they first met outside of his workplace (whatever bar/club that is), so early on she is likely to have paid for his companionship. After an initial period, did they fall in love? Maybe. Maybe not. As baka as she is, she should be aware of what he does for a living, and whether "his feelings/affections" were real. Or maybe she didn't care and just lived the moment.

She should also have known of the dangers of the whole thing being blown wide into the open and the damage to her reputation and career as a result. I don't think there is much room for salvaging a career in the entertainment industry for her after all this.

I don't think COVID was that big of a concern here. The biggest concern was that the guy involved was, for all intents and purposes, a male prostitute.

I think it has to do with the lens by which one views the whole thing. I'd not understand the brouhaha over the incident if I don't get the societal norms in Japan. Worse if I don't get the entire marketing premise behind idols.

It's not about whether it seems right in your point of view. It is a different pop culture in a different society. The entire Japanese idol industry was created to milk young single Japanese males of their money. Take that audience away and the industry is gone.

Nijika just started an Instagram account:
    https://www.instagram.com/ishimori_nijika/

    With this pic:

And this message: "It's been a while. Little by little, I'm working hard. Yoroshiku onegai shimasu. Thank you."
I can't translate that very common yoroshiku phrase in one go. It means something that combines ideas like: "Please be good to me...let's get along...please watch what I do...you're welcome to come...," etc.

Whatever happened and whoever's at fault, she's someone who contributed a lot to Keyaki, largely but not entirely behind the scenes, and who has grown prettier and prettier as the years have gone by. It hurt me and pleased me at the same time to see Habu taking her place giving that final solo formal bow at the end of a performance.
