Handshake experiences for Nagasawa, Shida, SaitouKyouko, Yonesan and Berika have been posted over the week by me. if any of those girls are your oshi, feel free to read em.

As for the cd sales, yea. bought 20cds to get the tickets I needed to meet em. Which is sorta worth imo, as I had never met them before. each ticket is about 5 seconds, but its also subject to the individual girl's popularity and the queue behind you. [5 tickets at hirate at the start or middle of the session would last the same as 3 tickets with ozeki the end for example. im not saying there is a tier, but im saying that it sorta happens.]

But seriously, do not underestimate the fanbase. I was blown away by the number of people at the damn event halls. Im not a fan of crowds. but I endured for the cute things [aka 46girls]. the people are generally friendly [a guy standing at the yonesan queue started talking to me, probably wondering which was there a foreigner here, let alone at yonesans line.

alot of girls queue for keyaki, mainly for hirate and the mona/risa. although alot of guys queue for mona/risa to ask em about their relationship.

all in all, a good first experience. I really hope i can go again, annual leave permitting.

So that means it's a pretty good system: you can't guarantee a spot in the individual handshake sessions on Sunday, since that's limited and by lottery; but you can be sure (?) of getting five seconds (or 15 seconds) on Saturday by buying CDs (through ForTune Music?). Is that right?

fortunemusic is only in charge of individual handshake, which is the regular edition CD. National HS tix can be found in Type A-C, found in any other stores.

Brilliant marketing, from both seller's and buyer's point of view. Buy a number of regular edition CDs for chances at individual handshakes. Have three other kinds of disks, each with songs and/or extras the others don't have, to tempt the willing buyer into 5 or 15 seconds -- or 30, or 45, or.... -- with one or more members.

SUPER IMPRESSIVE! Even HKT and NMB never reached that number. They're selling HALF of AKB's latest single and they only have what 1/4 or 1/5 of total members who participate in their HS?

not a/4 or 1/5 but but 1/10 lol. they're idol trend leader, the huge amount of sales isn't that surprising

It's the same old flawed comparison by number of members. And at least Keyaki don't have to participate in a minimum of 6 singles and 1 album HS per year. Some years even go up to 8 singles and 2 albums.

AKB has more than 100 individual members who only "participate" in 4 singles and I guess 1 album per year. So I don't know where minimum of 6 singles comes from.

He talks about NMB and HKT. Keyaki is a sister group as well, so it's appropriate to highlight the difference.

The number comparison was relevant to selling half of AKB's. Which is wrong because it's using Oricon for AKB and Soundscan for Keyaki, but the number of members thing isn't terribly inaccurate.

Number of members at low number easily lead to increase in sales when number of members increases, but will easily fall flat as it approaches a threshold, which is frankly not as high as what people like to imagine.

I feel as if I've wandered into a university lecture that's two years ahead of me, lol. Wonderful.

@ZenigameX's last comment was interesting. For sales, clearly more members => more handshake possibilities => more sales. But there's a curve there that will decline at some point.

K46, of course, is just beginning. It seems that K46 management has increased membership slowly, and is giving newer members a slow increase in publicity (only one TV variety appearance so far), and increasing handshake slots only as demand warrants. Building the base. And not even the most popular Keyaki-chan is getting a full five slots per event, just four. May it stay that way.

I look forward to seeing the next weekly Oricon chart, to compare apples with apples. Nevertheless, both the apples and the oranges are impressive.

What purport to be Oricon results for week nine have been posted on 2channel. These posts have proved correct before, so here's the table (sorry for the columns being off; I hope it's still readable):

    SaiMajo SekaAi Saison
    16/04/06 16/08/10 16/11/30
    ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
    wk1 261,580 323,066 442,322
    wks2-5 *71,725 *45,413 *66,533
    ────────────────────────
    wk6 **6,212 **3,064 *11,513
    wk7 **4,232 **2,648 *11,265
    wk8 **2,789 **3,073 *19,970
    wk9 **1,579 **2,220 **8,594
    wk10 **1,116 **6,387 ---,---
    ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
    totals 398,616 405,180 560,197

Big drop in week 9 actually just brings Saison back approximately to the already quite high ~10K that it had been maintaining since Kouhaku. Clearly the handshake event caused a bump within the Kouhaku bump.

I do note, however, the fact that SaiMajo had a better weeks2-5 than even Saison did. That song was the foundation point of their success. I wonder if BugBear will do another A-side. They wrote Bokutachi no Sensou, which I noticed was part of the lead-up music at the Christmas Live.

EDIT: On the Oricon daily chart for Sunday, Saison had risen back to #4. SaiMajo was #20, Sayonara no Imi #21, and SekaAi #25.
