Example of an AKB song (So Long) in Filipino:

if the video does not show watch the video here

Some of AKB's songs may actually transition smoothly into Filipino.
It's certain that there are differences in lyrics between the original and the translated version, there's no escaping that.
The original version mentions cherry blossoms yet to bloom; it is a cold, gloomy winter day.
There's only summer and winter in the Philippines and there's no symbolism connected with cherry blossoms to establish the setting.
The translated version solves this by using rain instead.
Even though the translated lyrics aren't faithful word for word, as long as they use language to evoke a similar emotion, some songs will fit right in.

Not sure how I would feel about this. I need to read their portfolio to make an honest assessment but I was kind of expecting this. Other than that it feels like HHE is like a shell corporation to further the AKB gospel, among other things.

Agree on this. Unfortunately, since I have not graced a TV screen for nearly 3 years now, I'm not sure how TV5 is faring in terms of its appeal, but recently, with the way it's treating Kawaii5....

BEJ48 (Beijing) and GNZ48 (Guangzhou) are somewhat already confirmed. The theaters are being built; we're just waiting for their completion.

I think Hallohallo will do just fine. Kawaii5 is a poor comparison because they were meant to be small in the first place. They're not bad even. It's just that they're probably not primed for mainstream in the first place.

There are no announcements yet concerning the audition. All that we have is that Hallohallo Entertainment is the operator and that the group will be formed later this year.

I'd venture to guess that for the first generation, they might accept girls up to the age of 20. But I think 13-18 is just fine.

Since hallo hallo inc. is going to manage mnl48 there is high chance that tv5 will be their partner network.

Quite possible. But so is the chance that they won't be exclusive to it. I personally hope they don't go exclusive (as usually is the case here) and appear in other networks as well. The 48G is behind in terms of brand recognition here so they need to be seen everywhere.

who can tell me a bit about the Philippines entertainment industry? problems? which may take place there Idol? what Filipinos love to sing listening to? if we look at SNH48 we can see that they adapt to Chinese preferences. They are more k-pop now, than j-pop. how the whole industry developed? many people buy CDs? CD sales are counted? who do you think is the sponsor of the project? What about relations with the underworld? Japan has a lot of fans in the Philippines? tanks ;)

PH ent. Industry is kinda zigzag effect as of now...
    Very catchy songs?
It depends on the strategy of the management.. The best option for me is to shifting the genre .. Like the snh does or popular trend of the country like dangdut in jkt..
There's always an underground act'y in the ph ..
    Maybe?? Let wait and see...
For now all we can do is to support MNL48 to share like and invite them thanks!~

I'll try to answer some, but there are questions that are a bit too complicated to answer.

If there is one word to describe Philippine entertainment industry it is depends. Depends on who you are talking to, which part of society they are from, and what their general background is. The masses can take a half-assed novelty song and guarantee that it will be played everywhere....but of course that doesn't guarantee CD sales. The middle to upper classes are generally a bit more picky with the music, but it is they who usually fork in the cash.

Philippine pop music is western-oriented (hence why K-pop had more traction here than J-pop), but I think they can handle AKB style songs. Well, maybe not all.

Filipinos are also notorious for ripping stuff from the net. They equate downloading free music with "support". But I believe that's a problem their handlers have already considered. Their handlers are Hallohallo Entertainment Inc.

As for the underworld, well we do have crime syndicates here, but I don't think they have the same connections to the entertainment world that the Yakuza have. J-pop does have a small but dedicated following despite the lack of groups coming in (Starmarie being a special case) but it's all a "wait and see" at this point.

The entertaiment industry in the Philippines is like a bandwagon effect. When one act trends, the Filipino fans follows the trend. In terms of the foreign acts engaged to Filipinos, most of the teenagers right now are K-Pop fans. But there are many Otakus too because of the anime fever since early 2000s. I don't mind regarding the underworld relations or problems of the industry.

In my suggestion if the MNL48 will be introduced soon, I like them to have the Filipino music touch with some elements of K-Pop and J-Pop music. Also aside for the "idols that you can meet" theme, I like to the MNL48 girls to be role model to other people mostly to the teenagers.

That's what I wish for the MNL48's success.

They're gonna do covers of AKB songs. There will not be K-pop involved.
