Super, super cute, in face and voice. And a bit of an artist, with her paper cuts. Very strong group.

    Itoha blog!!:chuffed:

    https://sakurazaka46.com/s/s46/diary/detail/49511?ima=3330&cd=blog

I'm impressed by the fact each entry brings out the member personality so well even someone like me with a less than good japanese can get it.
Still there're some passage I didn't understand (and google didn't help either) so I'm waiting for Saku101 translation to comment on them.

Itoha is someone I'll need time to know. She seems older than her age and I'm taken aback when she say or does something a 16 years old would say or do lol
Luckily, time is not a problem right now. Her Sakura dream is just starting

There was a point early in the documentaries where I was struck by Itoha seeming to dance remarkably lightly. Now I see a post on 5channel (here, post 261) drawing attention to how well she dances "with the lower half of her body," in ep5 starting at 3:54. Her legs are quick and light.

The same post mentions the segment of Ep7 starting at 9:08, where she says how happy she was when she was praised at the first session after the training camp for having learned well on her own. She says she could see she wasn't as good as others, but that she decided dance wasn't so bad after all. She was happy that, after having given the teachers so much trouble, they did not abandon her. The poster said she seemed honest about herself and a "good girl" and that she would eventually dance perfectly.

Posters in her 5channel support thread are calling her "Itopi" or "Pi". EDIT: But in her blog she says she'd like to be called Itoha or Ito-chan or Itoha-chan...or anything else people want.

Sakurazaka101 translation blog (they are so fast!:worthy:)

    https://sakurazaka101.com/im-mukai-itoha-向井-純葉-2023-03-14/

I'm still confused, but I agree with what the 5ch poster wrote: "she seemed honest about herself".
Yet, there's so much coming out in between the lines and so much not so hidden, I feel it will take a lot to really know her. Which is a paradoxs, I know.. and yet...

    1 unrelated question:
Why japanese blogs have that much of space between lines? Is it an idol thing? Is it to make the blog longer? Or is it a formatting thing?
Questions that keep me awake at night [hehe]

"They" appear to be @toomuchidea, who has posted here sometimes. Over the years, she has done or managed a lot of good work for us...from Indonesia, at least originally. She also translated the 7 documentary episodes on Keyavids and did most, if not all, of the vlogs.

I went back and watched Itoha's vlog, which seemed so simple and young. This blog gives hints of more complexity and wilfulness in her character. And I got more of the feeling that the Omotenashikai gave me: that the 3ki found they just loved to be up there being watched and admired and responded to: "I really loved the feeling when you'd all wave your penlights harder whenever I waved. It made me so happy. I wanna see it again."

As for the spacing in the blogs, yes, it's quite strange. But it looks good. Maybe it's to make the blog seem more welcoming, with space to get into. Maybe it's to make it seem like art, like the writing on East Asian paintings. Not sure.

I remember her. We didn't always share the same opinions but she's a great translator and has all my respect for the work she does for the fanbase community.
I used "them" because there're other people working on blogs translation and even more working on the subbed videos. It's amazing how much they do between translation and editing and checking because of their Sakura love.
...I can barely find the time and energy to drawn something decent :^^;:

Good call on the space between the lines, I'd never connect it to the void in asian paintings.

    Trivia-from-Wikipedia-time:
Kū or sora, most often translated as "Void", but also meaning "sky", "heaven" or environment, it represents those things beyond and within our everyday comprehension, particularly those things composed of pure energy before they manifest; the emptiness that the energy is made up of.

I just wrote that Riko could become Sakurazaka's secret weapon. Can I suggest that Itoha may be secret weapon #2? She is definitely coasting along under the radar, but I feel she has dance talent and personality that may propel her into the spotlight in the future.

    Some Japanese comments:
    • Raised her point level. Very amusing.
    • I enjoyed her talking and talking for an hour.
    • She’s cute, but what I loved most was her magnificent smile.
    • Excellent winker.
    • Seems like she was born to be an idol. Sakurazaka’s future is very bright.
    • She can dance and perform, but her ability to communicate is her strongest area. She is very well suited to being an idol.
    • I think this has made a lot of people love her.
    • Itoha-chan is an idol with very strong ability to communicate. Wonderfully cute. I love her! She has had some difficulties on SokoSaku, but is always funny and enjoyable. In any case, she’s cheerful and humorous and watching her is always healing.
Itoha, despite being one of my favourite members, has the lowest 3gen total of Meet & Greet sales, and is somehow not that popular with fans. But her performance here will help: she gave outstanding fanservice, with winks and gestures and smiles and comments, had great responsiveness, and always showed a friendly smile.

Itoha mukai and kirari takeuchi ( hinatazaka 46) appear in a mv collaboration between the band porno graffiti and the prefecture of Hiroshima.

Great outside work for Itoha. She and Kirari (4th gen Hinatazaka) are both from Hiroshima and both 17. The song is called "Message to Hiroshima" and the lyrics are about praying for peace. Moving pop music and a beautiful MV set in various scenic spots around the prefecture. And featuring a couple of scenic young dancers.

We're about a month from the date when, almost eighty years ago, an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, killing around 100,000 people.

Porno Grafitti are also from Hiroshima Prefecture and also associated with Sony Music Entertainment, as the Sakamichi groups are.

This reminds me of Neru, who always used to -- and may still -- commemorate the date of the dropping of the second atom bomb, on her home town of Nagasaki.

EDIT: At 10am Tuesday morning, "Mukai Itoha" was trending #1 in Yahoo searches in Japan.

I saw a little story headed "Mukai Itoha cries in Meet & Greet". I worried that someone had put her down and she cried. Not so, fortunately. Here's a translation of the exchange, which was posted by the guest, "Shika":

    me Itohaa!
    Itoha Hi, Shika-chaan!
me Congratulations on being in the front row for Anthem Time.
Itoha Oh, no! I’m so happy I’m starting to cry.
me I was so happy that during the Mini-Live, I was crying, too (remembering, I started to cry again).
Itoha Uh-huh (eyes full of tears).
me I was so happy Itoha was in the front row. Sorry for crying.
Itoha Oh, dear. Itoha is crying, too.
me Sorry, sorry. Really, I was so happy.
    Itoha Good. Thank you (weeping)
    me Enjoy TGC, eh.

Itoha surprised us (surprised me, at least) by placing in the middle of the table in the "IntelliQueen" contest (13th). I shouldn't have been surprised. Now it seems her memory may be quite good, and also her feeling for people. From another Meet & Greet guest, "Mirin": "She greeted me with a big smile and "Mirin-chaan"! I was so happy." And she has spoken up pretty well in MC sessions.

And from "Ruu-chan": "At the Meet & Greet a couple of weeks ago, I said I'd like to see her in a ponytail. This week, the first thing she said was: 'Sorry. I couldn't do the ponytail.'"

And "Kumako": "Hey, wait a minute! Itoha?! She's super cute, and in Meet & Greet she treats you so well....'

Photos from her latest blog post (24 July):

Yes, she was in the front row for Anthem Time, the 3Gens' song centred by Yuzuki. She was just off Yuzu's left shoulder, with Mio off her right shoulder. And she was also given good moments on screen, in which she showed emotional expressiveness, in Seijaku no Bouryoku. For that, she lines up near the middle of the back row.

Itoha is the least popular 3gen, by Meet & Greet sales. She is also one of my own favourite members.

Something she does in the fixed-camera version of the Mini-live -- recently posted for fan-club members -- should endear her to fans. Particularly to fans of Miu-chan: during the "MC" period following their performance of Seijaku no Bouryoku, she is standing next to Miu, who seems exhausted after her powerfully emotive performance, sometimes even rocking a bit on her feet. Itoha keeps glancing at Miu and several times sticks out her arm to steady her, seemingly to keep her from falling over. And at the end, when the whole row of members bows, Itoha reaches out to support Miu as she rises. "She was so nice it made me want to cry," was one comment. "Kind," "a good girl," "admirable".

She may be kind, but she is also outgoing and noisy. She says in her blog that she wants to be a calm person...but goes on to say with a laugh that's impossible. However, Itopi's big smiles, good reactions on SokoSaku and some intensely emotional performance moments in the Mini-live make me think her popularity will grow.

Remember that she missed the training camp, but as soon as they came back to begin real rehearsals, the teachers praised the fact that she had been able to more or less catch up, by hard work with videos. Her performance in the special MV of Porno Graffitti's Message to Hiroshima was one recent step forward.

She is the second-youngest member of the group, six months older than Mio, 4 months younger than Enrico.

she cried a lot that day -- "I don't remember why" -- and her eyes got puffy.

I feel Itoha is one of those idols who divide fans between love/hate (where hate is a too strong word but you understand my meaning)
Personally, I liked her since the presentation video, but then she does something so exaggerate it puts me off... only to fish me back when she does something else....
They are completely different, but Milky comes to mind often while I watch Itoha

Regardless, I expect her to conquer more fans in M&G... it feels like that is her "arena"

To me Itoha just feels so incredibly genuine in her exaggeration. It doesn't feel put on. When she laughs it feels like she is truly having fun y'know and when she cries I can really empathize with her, even if it's something trivial.
Her emotions feel so raw and pure and free that I cannot help but adore her. She feels so painfully honest in everything and It's so beautiful to me.

She is definitely my favorite 3ki

Itoha and Mio did two half-hour episodes of Sakumimi radio in May. The two youngest members of Sakurazaka. They did sound their age, but talked easily and somewhat wittily. They laughed a bit too much and realized their voices were getting higher because they were nervous. Itoha seemed a bit more eloquent and confident.

Itoha said a few things about herself:
    • her interest/hobby (趣味 shumi) is...music.
    • like Mio, she likes ramen, up to for every meal
    • favorite Sakurazaka song Hanshin Hangi (!).
    • member she talks most with..."Endou Riko-san desu," she says with a lilt in her voice.
    • senpai she'd like to become friends with: "Habu Mizuho" (she says this archly, and they laugh/giggle).
    • she says she will (this is May) work very, very hard and hopes the radio listeners will watch her.

Both of them come from places far from Tokyo: Hiroshima (in the far west of Honshu) and Fukuoka (a bit further south and west, in northern Kyushu). So they are both living in their own apartments in Tokyo -- perhaps in an apartment building where other members have apartments.

In a recent Meet & Greet, Itoha told a guest that she is still not used to Tokyo. She feels frightened just walking down the street. And she has so much trouble transferring from one train to another that she sometimes breaks her journey and just walks the rest of the way. This guest said that when the image connected, Itoha broke in and said hello to her by name.

Another guest says that Itoha's treatment of guests must be the best in Japan. The guest wrote in Twitter that he/she has done Meet & Greet with many idols, and that her conversation, smiles and fishing are all at a nice level. She is so far not popular in Meet & Greet, but the guest has confidence that will change.

Yet another guest says her natural friendliness is amazing, that she is in the same style as Inori, who has been described as being like someone in "first love". In a high school class, all the boys would love her. Once she starts speaking, she can go on and on. And her intonation is excellent, almost as if she were someone aiming to do rakugo (traditional comic storytelling).
