Theme is determining the successor to Kojiharu by elimination.
I like how Annin was the only one at the table that could point to Kato Rena about her ugly face without makeup. rena didn't comment on it but maybe they have a talk later and yuriya can mediate.

^I finally got around to watching episode 5, I thought it was really funny! I can't wait for AmeAgari to sub it!(Komi as the fire goddess was really funny to me)

The next episode looks like an emotional episode so I better get my tissues ready.

EP7 was boring, another gen-v-gen cream cannon muchaburi one, filler...

But EP8 will bring back some old school, golden-age hard knocks (hopefully... wasn't impressed with the 15-ki bonding EPs, for challenge) in the form of Sugai Hidenori -- the super-strict voice teacher from H!P's audition gens -- in charge of gasshuku for the 16-ki KKS!

Boy, if they don't get tough and hungry and detail-oriented after Sugai-sensei gets through with them... they're a lost cause.

^ Yesss... not really in the thick of do-or-die sense yet, but the preview for next week shows the hammer's coming... and the nails that stick up, will get pounded down.

I love these gasshuku with Sugai-sensei and other reknowned instructors... as they basically give the trainees what they can expect in any (esp JDM) industry... that do-or-die, non-coddling guidance and negative reinforcement, *is* the rule, so may as well get used to it. Better, tougher idols come out the other end.

Unfortunately, there'll always be those that can't, or refuse to put it all on the line... it's better to know who earlier than later... in front of fans that've waited hours in freezing rain, saved for months, or showed up sick as dogs, all for their oshis.

 

EP09 - the hammer's hit home! Both Sugai-sensei and their dance instructors are instilling the fear into our 16-ki...

I've watched Sugai use a different prop for every generation of Momusu and AKB48 idols he's taught... so to see yet another used that's supposed to teach the fundamentals of voice training is a tiny bit hilarious But it's good to see that he's lost zero of the strictness that debuted 15 yrs ago.

The dance instructors' scoldings, esp the jiki's (assistant's)... remind me of Takamina from the Tokyo Dome documentary -- if you don't want to be here, go home, don't waste everyone's time. For some of them I'm sure it's only the second time they've realized how hard it is to be in a national-level idol group.

Hang in there, 16-ki! Since I'm an Orin supporter it's a relief to see signs that this isn't her first rodeo dealing with strict sensei... after all, competitive karate tends to reward self-control, and punish with pain. I'm rooting for 'Zukki too, as her stage exp I'm sure is coming in handy. The hammer is your friend, don't fight it, let it forge you into something stronger.

Best thing about the 16 gen series is hearing akimotosayaka voice played over and over on the dance track. Also the moment umemoto izumi sang.

Orin kicked ass in the dance audition... cameras are barely on her to focus on the ones without famous sisters in the group... but it was still obvious who was comfortable with the pressure of Sugai-sensei and the dance instructors (can never remember their names)...

I hope she does 1/3 as well in the voice audition next week (judging by her big sis' vocal skills... I may need earplugs)

Honma Mai continues to be our running joke. I wonder if she's somehow actually ok with that character?

 

Wow -- Orin did worse than I thought she would (and about as bad in voice)...

'Zukki too, did poorly... would've thought her stage exp would've aided voice score, but her dance was below average too?

*sigh* this 16th-gen needs work. No wonder they chose the teachers they did.
