Single [SINGLE] Takahashi Minami [Jane Doe] 13/04/03

I'm really, really disappointed in the sales. I just expected so much more, given her name recognition, the promotion, and the fact that she's a decent pop singer and it's a good song. Also I kind of always consider Takamina as having this tremendous respect from all AKB fans, even those who might not consider her anywhere near their oshi or even top 10 or 20 girls, so I kind of expected a LOT of fans to show their 'appreciation', in a way, by buying a single. Especially given the dramatic way in which her solo career was announced, and how important her career is to her. Ah well. Certainly not horrible numbers, just kind of a shame she couldn't even match the numbers of the other soloists (excluding Kasai).

 

I think it shows that AKB artists just sell like anyone else without the gimmicks and all. [sealed]

Still, the single will eventually pass the 100k mark, which I think is pretty good for a debut.
She was there when there were 7 people in the theatre. She was there when their firsts singles barely hit 20k in two weeks... I think she might be content with this numbers.

 

Takamina is in my top 5, but I can understand why sales are as they are.
Economy. The world is feeling this so I don't need to explain. As far as I know, she really only promoted Jane Doe, which I feel is one one of the weaker songs, so maybe people just weren't interested. Plus, they may have wanted other AKB goods or may just be sick of constantly forking money over. Do these numbers reflect any songs that were brought off iTunes?
I don't think people who respect her would buy it just for that reason. $16 just because you respect someone doesn't seem a lot but if you did it for each girl you respected... I know you can rent cds so maybe there are more people doing that or buying them second hand instead.
Apart from that, not everyone cares how she'll feel. Her oshis do, but casual listeners just want music. They don't care about her announcement or her dreams. Plus, sometimes shoving too much of something in someone's face makes people want them less, rather than more.
Theres also the fact that some people don't care about soloists out of AKB and some of them only care of them when they are seperated from the group. We've seen Takamina be nervous when she was performing alone which is perfectly natural and expected, but some people will take that as weakness and her being dependent on the group.

There are really many reasons as to why this didn't meet people's expectations. I honestly thought it was a pretty great debut with solid numbers considering who she was up against, the release time and the general market.

surely the sales weren't as expected ,but the most important this is the first step on her carreer.I'm sure Takamina is already happy that she could do such a great job [clap]

Actually takamina is an Ayu fan too, it was stated at the no3b profile and she sung Ayu as CREA's song, Will, for her audition! Will is an underrated song, only fans will notice the beauty of this song.
PS: I have to admit that she can more like from me when I saw the video of her singing Will.

 

So they only way to get the theater edition was to pre-order?!?

^yup, you have to preorder it at chara site some time ago, the deadline has already closed... The theatre version can not be bought at the AKB shop anymore, they stop doing that this few years, due to the handshake tickets slots that have to be lottery to win them.

Anyway to those who ordered the first edition or type D/E/F/G, anyone willing to help me out here? I have extra TYpe A/B/C photos.

My middleman made a mistake and end up getting type A/B/C for me when I told them I want D/E/F,( as I already ordered the same 3 from another site), and there is no way to edit my order, so I'm having extra set A/B/C, do pm me if anyone has other theatre photo, I'll be trading them off.

^^You'll find a lot of people brought theatre editions purely for the handshake ticket and may have excess copies. Check yahoo auction Japan, you might be able to find some unsealed ones

 

Ignoring Kasai?

She sold 32,582 copies in her first week. So... yeah, Takamina is not doing THAT bad.

 

32,000 copies is a good number...it seems that we're forgetting that 75,000 copies is an amazing number for a solo debut in general

 

Ugh that sucks, wanted to buy 7 copies so I could get all 14 type 2 photos.
At least I know for future I guess.

I'll just pick up a sealed copy on YAJ, thanks a lot

tho it's hard as hell to tell if it's 100% new from the wording on some of these listings ugh

 

^actually the bonus photos ate external of the theatre CDs, so even if you buy it unsealed, it might not comes with photos unless the seller state so, and with which version

(And still no Kasai sorry, her solo debut after winning the horse game and the promo she had makes her a bit apart, it will be the same for Kuramochi)

Because she's AKB general manager and for that most AKB fans would buy her single?
Takamina is respected by AKB fans, no doubt, but that doesn't mean she'd sell more than other more popular girls. At the end fans would only support their own oshi.

 

Yes it is a great number for other singers. But this is the AKB machine and this is the very high profile for a long time..Takamina. I think they would have been disappointed. Money maybe getting tight.

But these sales levels are enough to ensure regular singles from her now as it means income for the group.

I think AKB's strategy has changed to leverage of any sort of popularity among the girls and give them a single..Mocchi is next and I suspect there will be many others having singles. This is a different AKB.

 

^ Mocchi's is a result of her winning that JRA horse-race betting challenge (like Kasai's) so it's not really what you think.

As for the sales number, probably her fans saving for election.

 

These sales are actually good in this current climate. If you notice, no one has been able to top Dear J and flower in sales not even Mayu. It has nothing to do with popularity, the CD climate was better two years ago but the earthquake and the economic turn has taken it's toll on the industry so people are just prioritizing what they buy and if Takamina isnt an oshi then no reason to rush out to buy every single edition.

 

Exactly. I really don't get why people thought of higher sales. Yes, she's captain but so what? That doesn't transfer to the general public and the world has been economically bad for the lsat few years, so overseas fans are going to buy less (when you add in shipping) and Japanese fans are probably in a similar boat - why buy when she isn't an oshi? It'd be better to just get one copy rather than all and go to a HS event or something for support. Many fans are probably tired of the constant stream of releases. How on earth are you ever supposed to get every cd and dvd and everything else?

In any case, it's not like her numbers were horrible. It's not like she's massively unpopular and this was her make or break thing. Considering how far she's gone with AKB, I'm sure she'll still be happy that she achieved this. Happy Birthday for yesterday, btw, Takamina!
