    Aus fan here!
There's actually a lot of Australian fans, which kind of surprises me. Don't know why XD

    Re: AKB Fans in Australia?

    Correction (unless I'm mistaken) - a lot of Melbourne AKB48 fans ;) /Melbourne-pride bias

I think maybe it's in response for our personal need for an outlet to express our interests in a country where Asian pop-culture that is not Korean/HK beyond anime is virtually an unknown commodity. Let alone one that revolves around 48+ girls. More than often for example, my iPhone wallpaper, flask bottle and shirt specifically have been getting quite a few strange looks, comments and questions from friends and acquaintances... :awesome:

(anyway my fellow fans and I here are planning an(-other) AKB48 gathering sometime late Sept incase some of you want to know)

    Hi guys

You might have seen SBS' new weekly Asian pop music show this morning, SBS PopAsia so the time for AKB to be seen on FTA TV here has arrived [hehe] I missed it cause I slept in but my girlfriend told me it was Kpop dominated, so let's pull off a combo breaker and get some AKB48 on air :D

The SBS site has a 24/7 streaming radio of Asian pop songs and earlier this evening I got them to play Beginner [party] There is a Top 8 list so everyone get voting for AKB songs! A few new releases are already listed - Flying Get, Diva, NMB, Itamo Tomomi so that's pretty sweet.

18 min Flying Get PV on SBS next Sunday morning? Let's do it :awesome:

edit: Who just called in and requested If by French Kiss? [clap]

    Re: AKB Fans in Australia?

    Huge problem:
    1) I can't find it on SBS On Demand. Stupid SBS - ABC's iView is so much better for catching up with missed shows. And 8:30am is way too early for me.

    2) It's SBS PopAsia. Which means 90% of it is/will be K-pop dominated. Every single time I tune in to their radio channel, it's always some K-pop artist singing. Of course, that's entirely what the majority of listeners want so I won't blame SBS entirely. But still, where's the "Asia" in it? More like "PopKorea"...

At least there is SOME very small glimmer of hope for AKB48 on FTA TV/Australian media... a rare achievement if it actually occurs, not since The Age/SMH reporting on Aimi Eguchi [hehe]

That person who requested French Kiss should be given a pay rise for interrupting the continuous stream of K-pop songs and guttering most of the listeners for denying them of more BIGBANG/SNSD/T-ara :awesome:

    Re: AKB Fans in Australia?

8:30am is indeed too early, I was still sleeping by the time it finished at 10:30am.

I've been listening most of this afternoon up until now and by the time I wake up tomorrow morning I will be fluent in Korean. I'll even be able to break up my awesome Korean skills with English words and phrases too. But yeah it's what the masses want... so my urge to troll everyone by wanting idol music is increasing :awesome:

Even the Jpop they've been playing are the Korean crossovers, apart from the Namie Amuro track I heard earlier. Gotta start voting for AKB... Hebirote PV on FTA on a Sunday morning please :awesome: :awesome:

    Re: AKB Fans in Australia?

    Damn straight!

I've been listening to this for ~1-1.5 hours. Only three J-pop songs have been played, none of which are idol-related (JE excluded).

 Hebirote? That'll make my day, seeing people's reactions to it - not from the people who intentionally watch the show, but just to see what the parents are thinking when their kids innocuously flip to SBS in the morning, only to find a whole lotta girls in lingerie and cat ears and toying with each other.

edit: Oh snap, who requested for Dear J? :awesome:

Tomomi Itamo was by a girl from Melbourne I think? I didn't catch the name. Looks like someone requested Beginner again, it's coming up after Miss A [hehe]

I need to find the number, I want to call in and request a song...

    Re: AKB Fans in Australia?

Ah, QLD kid :D I don't understand why they opened up their first MOS burger in Brisbane instead of Melbourne/Sydney though...
Before the year started? So you were there when the floods occurred?

AKB fans? Have fun trying to find some in sunny, bogan QLD [hehe]
