Fine-tuned a little bit of the subs so it's a little more accurate! Very good job for a first try! I also used the RAW video from the Nogizaka YouTube and it fit perfectly. Looks like we may be back in business already!

Thanks for the positive reactions so far, guys! I'll probably always think that we could've done better and may have failed to match GEES' level, but I'm glad that we did do it. We got to show Umezawa-san at her intellectual apex. I've done another pass on the subtitles, to correct minor errors I noticed today. Ao Haruka Yo!-chan has updated her original post with the new links. These versions will likely be the final ones that are uploaded to Aidoru.

Addressing early responses, we're aware that some spellings may be different to those who're used only to American variants. None of our group are American, though Ao-chan likes to say that I'm fluent in both English and American. We use "fulfil" rather than "fulfill", for example. Americans use "practice" as both a noun and a verb. For us, "practice" is only a noun. "Practise" is the verb.

I'd also like to explain why we went for some direct translations that differ from what's become common in English-speaking fan culture. Translating "祈願" (kigan) as "supplication", as opposed to "campaign", is the big one here. "運動" (undō) is the real word for "campaign", though said English word is in fact used more commonly, in Nihongo, than "undō" itself. We went for "supplication" instead, both because it's more accurate, and because it leans into the distinction that these projects aren't just campaigns. They're supposed to be prayers through actions. We knew that some wouldn't like the change, but we deliberately decided to ignore fan commonalities, for the sake of how closely we wanted to translate. If we ever come back, we'd also convert "ki" into "class" rather than "generation", because of the few episodes when both "class" and "generation" have been used in the same sentence. The ability to make that slight difference can be very important. That's how we chose to do it, but we definitely understand why many fans have different preferences!

I hope that come across as just explaining, rather than lecturing or even berating.

End of a legendary reign for GEES. Appreciate everything you did. You made so many people's day brighter and better for many years.

Kudos to the ones picking up the baton. To even attempt to keep that flame going is like lifting Thor's hammer!

Much appreciated! I just got done watching, and your humility almost had me expecting worse subs that what you produced. They were excellent! I hope you seriously considering subbing future episodes, because you and the rest of the team did a great job with this.

I also rarely comment here, but I have been watching the episodes every week, and I appreciate all the hard work GEES-san put into these, it always was difficult watching the official youtube versions where the music would be cut off and there was no sound. Made watching the karaoke episodes quite difficult.

And to Hououin Kyouma-san and Team, thank you for continuing these, and I hope you continue into the future.

Have not watched it yet (usually wait a bit with episodes) but if you decide to continue the subs, i at least would appreciate it if you could provide softsubs too.
It is not a problem without it, but if some "errors" (spelling, sometimes timing issues...which mostly came on old stuff and different used raws i guess) exist i sometimes tend to want to fix them at least locally for me....even if i can overlook quite a bit of them. (always hate the old subs )not sure which show it was) where people did not correctly applied the he/she pronouns)

Regarding the questions of if we're continuing, I'd really appreciate it if you guys would take a minute to respond to this. I've done my best to convey all that we've considered.
Please, excuse the length. I've written multiple drafts over the past day, but I'm addressing dozens of reactions, regarding potentially succeeding someone who's reached and created thousands of fans. It was always going to be an important topic, whoever tried it.

#492 was natural instinct, triggered by GEES' announcement, thinking only that we had to do it. Even though it's only the 2nd time that we'd ever subtitled together, I think that we did well, & didn't do Nogizaka a disservice. We genuinely didn't have an inkling even of the idea of becoming GEES' successors, though, & were shocked when multiple people asked us to be just that.

Honestly, we're completely undecided because we're asking ourselves how positive the reception's really been so far, & how much is lukewarm/negative. Are the positive reactions mild or strong? Do some want us to continue, or just assume that we would, because of the quality of our work, or only because no one else tried it, & Haishinchū's 11 eps. behind?

Some seem unhappy, or appear to believe that the replacements must be carbon copies—impossible for anyone but GEES. Others have felt aggressive towards 1 or more of us, rather than our subtitles. They may just not be thinking about sounding rougher than intended in text alone. I don't know if we've somehow offended anyone. We're happy with constructive criticism, but we're also fine if you prefer another group or the official Haishinchū releases! There's no desire to tarnish GEES' legacy.

We're already established recording content for Aidoru, & have loved working on the near-1tb. that GamusharaShimaRin's uploaded. The reception's been fantastic, so we know that there's a place for us in that. We've just become promoted to "Uploader" class, so if we stopped subtitling, we'd simply put our energies into expanding what we're already known for doing. Either way, our archiving work continues.

All of that is why I feel the need to ask, straight up, whether or not you want us continue as long-term translators, too. You've seen our baseline, as newbies, and our chosen style. We're willing, but also have no problem with stopping, really! No single person or group's got the right to claim ownership of translating, so we'd gladly move aside, if that's what fans want. Your getting great quality is all that matters to us. We've never been famous or important among fans, and didn't do this to be that. We'll only succeed GEES if those who, like us, adore his work also consider us truly capable.

I find your subtitles to be great! I can tell time, effort, and genuine care came out in the final release and I would love to see you continue. Of course, it's all up to you as I completely understand that it's a time consuming effort but I would continue to support your subtitles releases no question. Even if all you did was contribute the one sub file, you've already done more for the fandom than 99% of those here on this forum let alone including your uploads. Thanks for sharing your passion with us!

I'd certainly like and appreciate it if you kept on subbing but if it's going to be a stress or a hassle to you, maybe don't put yourself through it. Personally i wouldn't like or care what anyone said but everyone is different. Working on subs isn't fun or easy but people for the most people really appreciate it i'd hope.

Yes, I agree with prior comments, please continue!

One suggestion on the torrent site for number of downloads might be to title it "Nogizaka Under Construction" in some way as every other download of subs and raws has that title. If someone searches for that, they simply won't see your subs at all. Some of it might also be that they were uploaded before the raws, and no one was thinking it would be that quick (a problem that's nice to have ;)).

We weren't expecting this 9 days ago. Quarian Kotenbu will subtitle Nogizaka Koujichuu, in English, for however long we can! Following Ao Haruka Yo!-chan's post, there's much more desire for us to do it than we thought, on various sites, so it was an easy decision. As I was a background fan for so long, it's daunting but incredibly heartening that people suddenly want us in this role.

Even if Stage48 is down, you'll still be able to get our subtitles on Aidoru or BlueSky. We're confident of releasing episodes before the next one airs. We can't know if our run will last only weeks, months, or years, but, if we stop communicating permanently, it'll only be because we all suddenly died. We may now be on LLC's hit list, after all, like the Sankisei.

GEES started just before the Sankisei's debut. Co-opting new vice-captain Sugawara Satsuki-san's Dai Kanshasai speech earlier today (lacubo's translation here), we'll give everything we can to prove ourselves worthy of our new positions, & ask you to watch kindly over us, as we all start just before the Rokukisei's debut.

Happily it seems the decision has already been made, but please let me add my own opinion which is that I would very much appreciate you continuing to sub the show. #492's subtitles were very good.
