    HKT48 Tashima Meru, the best reader in the idol world, talks about how to meet good books "The bookstores at the airport have a different product lineup"

    Meru Tashima of HKT48, who has been a reader since childhood and has a series of book reviews. Joined the group as a 2nd gen member and was selected as the center of HKT48's first original song "Hatsukoi Butterfly". As a mood maker, she has been leading HKT48. Now that more and more people are facing reading at home, we talked to Tashima, who has read thousands of books in her life, about the appeal of "reading" and how to find good books.

    --- Tashima is known as a reader so much that she even has a serialization about books.

    Tashima: I got a picture book as a Christmas present when I was in kindergarten. It seems that I was reading the picture book all day long, and since then, all the presents have become picture books. After entering elementary school, I went to the library. It's like going to the library and choosing a book before playing with everyone during lunch break.

    When I combined the Tashima school library and the Fukuoka city library, I was able to borrow 12 books a week, so I used that frame to the full.

    --- A simple calculation will result in more than 600 books a year.
    Tashima: I think I was reading that much. I can't count how many thousands I've read in my life (laughs). Since I started this job, the pace has slowed down, but before, when I flew back and forth between Hakata and Tokyo many times, I read one book one way, so when I go to Tokyo, I fly. I was riding with two books. I really like the bookstore at the airport!　

    The product lineup is a little different from the bookstores in town. I felt like I could come across books that I wouldn't normally be able to find, so I loved going to the bookstore at the airport before boarding the plane. It's a pity that the chances have decreased due to the corona wreck.

    --I think that the overwhelming majority of people buy books online now.
    Tashima: I think it's important to "encounter" books, so I basically go to a bookstore. I pick up a book that I think was interesting at first glance and read the first page. If you feel "Oh, I want to read more", it's already an "encounter". No matter how much I love the new book, I always check it at the bookstore before buying it.

    Books have "fits and doesn't fit" with humans. Even my favorite author has a work that says "This may not fit a little", and even a writer who doesn't know at all has an encounter with "This is!" If you're not good at printing and don't like books, I think you've just never had a good encounter.

    I wish Meru would have tried Produce 101. I don't think she had the singing talent but I wish she would have tried. Who knows if she would have progressed but it would have been worth trying who knows. ah well we'll never. I think I read the thread when the show first came out and people were wondering why Meru wasn't in the tryouts, i can't remember what the reason was though.

    It was a graduation ceremony that flew by.
    I don't know where to start with my memories of Saku-chan. In the beginning, we may not have been rivals, but we were very sensitive to the position of center, and all four of us were very conscious of it, so we had a unique relationship.
    The best memory I have is the day of the Melon Juice jacket photo shoot. On that day, we found out that Mio and I were going to be the center of the group, so Mio came to my room to talk with me when we got to the hotel. The room in front of mine was Haruppi's room, and then Saku-chan came to my room. I remember it vividly, like a scene from a movie. "Thank you for your hard work," said Mio in my room, and Saku in Haruppi's. We were facing each other, and sometimes we could hear each other crying, and we didn't know what to do. It was very painful at that time, but now I think that the feelings I experienced at that time were special.
    Saku-chan is a person of effort.
    She's always working hard, step by step, and she's a great person. However, she has a shallow sense of humor and laughs at everyone, and when I'm with her, it's obvious that we're the same person.
    Even when I was in Korea, I would ask her, "What book do you recommend these days?" or "What anime do you recommend? It's nice to be able to talk to each other in such a casual way ☺️.
    I was always happy when she was smiling, and she was always surrounded by smiling faces, and I always wanted to be a part of that circle, so I always looked in on her.
    You always say that you love the members, but the members around you love you even more.
    Saku-chan has always exceeded our expectations and stood on stage with a smile on her face even though she was under a lot of pressure. I can't thank you enough.
    I hope you were surprised by my surprise at the good-bye meaning.
    They cut that interlude out in rehearsal, it didn't exist! LOL!
    So I was in charge of gently holding down Saku-chan's microphone .
    I was also the one who triggered the last part. I was so nervous because it was a surprise performance.

    The first thing I thought about was this

    She is perfect in every way.
    Saku-chan exceeds people's expectations.
    No matter what happens in the future, we will always be friends.
    Sometimes you need to take a break, but if you need anything
    Please let us know. We'll be right there.
    Saku-chan, I wish you many memories.
    It was all "thank you.

    But the first thing that came to my mind was

    Thank you for leaving so many things for HKT48.

    I can only thank you, both as an individual and as a group.
    And I wanted to protect Saku-chan's beloved HKT48 with everyone.
    I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it in time, but I'm glad I got it right
    Saku-chan cried and I got caught up in it too
    Yesterday, Saku-chan asked me "Does Meru cry? I can't imagine it" and I said "I'll probably cry" and she said "I can't imagine it because Meru never cries in front of people".
    By the way, from rehearsal to Suki! Suki! Skip! But I was so excited. I remembered a lot of things. Yomiuri Land, the handshake event, the concert. Seeing the view of the penlights today reminded me of the general election. I felt nostalgic, thinking how much I love this scenery. I wanted to burn it into my eyes, but at the same time, I felt sorry for the juniors, thinking that they would not be able to see this kind of scenery. I want to be a person who can leave something behind, just like the seniors did for me.
    I'm sure that Saku-chan will continue to work hard, open up new worlds, and bloom beautifully.
    Even if I tell her to take a break once in a while, I'm sure she'll still work hard! I'm sure that's why there are so many of you. That's why she is admired and respected by so many people. I'm one of them.

    Saku-chan is the strongest idol in my mind.
    Thank you so much for always showing me your cool back! I'm proud of HKT48.
    Today you were so beautiful, so dazzling, so sparkling, so wonderful that I burst into tears.
