I've been reading Umishou (aka The Boobs manga) for a while now, has anyone else taken a look at it? It's about a high school swim team, and so entirely full of every cliche (deliberately) that it's hilarious.

Anyone reading anything interesting that they wish to share?

The truth is I'm not really into mangas. I am more of a Disney fan.
But I've read some classics in my childhood. . For example Dragon Ball(a must have for boys), Rurouni Kenshin, Tekken Chinmi and Inuyasha. Some other series i've no time or no interest to complete.
Nowadays I seldomly hunt their used copy or look for scans.

As for me, Rurouni Kenshin is the best of all time.

I'd have to agree. RuroKen is awesome. I haven't bought much manga (its a bloody expensive hobby). But i do have all of Kenshin and Ai Yori Aoshi (another of my favorites).

I need more money to waste on manga.... :(

my time for reading manga is expired, i think. but in my time, i read City Hunter (a must for everyone too, i guess LOL), Dragon Ball, Candy-Candy (LOL), and others. Now i watch anime more than reading manga.

@nikitty104 : if you like Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunsou)'s manga, try watch the anime. it's more hilarious than the manga, i think. you'll get so addicted you can wait to watch the next episodes...

    Seinen manga parade go!

I reread all of Berserk once every year, in preparation for a marathon session wherin I read the approximately three new chapters that will have come out that year...

Griffith is one of the best villains ever: he's one insane, evil bastard, but at the same time... he's just so dreamy. I love stories about betrayal and revenge, and Berserk has one of the most shockingly cruel betrayals ever. I'm sticking with it despite the slow releases because I hope the revenge is going to be just as awesome.

    Monster is another favorite.

It's set in Germany and focuses on an ambitious Japanese brain surgeon, Tenma Kenzo, who performs surgery on a young boy (Johan) with a bullet lodged in his head, despite the hospital director ordering him to let the boy be and operate on some politician instead. The story then flashes forward some 10 years or so, when Tenma discovers the boy he saved grew up to be a murderous sociopath. This messes with Tenma's beliefs (he's good at heart, but by saving this one boy, he's indirectly to blame for the deaths of many others), so he sets out to stop Johan.

20th Century Boys (20世紀少年) from the same guy who did Monster, is also really good.

It's more sci-fi than Monster, but it still has the amazing twists and an incredibly disturbing villain. For a very long time, it's not revealed who the villain is (he's always wearing a mask of some sort), but you know it has to be one of the main characters. I blasted through the first part of the series because I wanted to know who it was. Like Monster, 20th Century Boys is being made into a movie. There's not much on the site right now, but it looks very promising.

^ Like all good betrayals, it requires backstory, but that's covered in some 10 volumes of the manga, so it's a lot to summarize. Basically, Griffith (who is the leader of a mercenary army) sacrifices his entire army, all the people who made him into what he was because they believed in him and his dream to one day have a kingdom of his own, to become a (Demon) God.

Guts, Berserk's protagonist, Griffith's only true friend and the most important contributor to his success (not to mention two-time savior of Griffith's live) gets a special treatment, because Griffith, in his new Demon God form, does something bad (you know how Japan rolls) to Guts' girlfriend (and the baby she's carrying) right in front of him, which results in her losing her memory and ability to speak and a very special baby...

Guts manages to survive that time through sheer willpower, merely losing his forearm and one eye in the process, though he's branded as a demon sacrifice, meaning demons will be trying to kill him at all times. From that point on, it's revenge time.

    And this is Griffith:

I must say, I'm definitely a fan of some predictable manga. I can't do action (DBZ) or series you have to think about (thriller-types)... and I have to have pretty art (this means I don't like Fruits Basket at all).

My recommendations/favorites for anyone who cares...:

    -Azumanga Daioh (hilarious... a must-read)
-Cardcaptor Sakura (a cute mahou-shoujo CLAMP classic)
-Galaxy Angel (I think it's better than the anime)
-Paradise Kiss (My absolute favorite... ever.)
    -Tsubasa (another cute CLAMPer)
    -xxxHOLIC (see above)
-Pita-Ten (It's cute with great art and a fun story)

    EDIT: Ahh! 666 posts!

Do you by chance know if it's licensed for the US? I love the anime, so I assume that the 4-koma would be good.

(Actually, I'm assuming you probably don't know if it's licensed yet... it wouldn't matter for you... never mind.)

^ Good idea. I just checked and it looks like it hasn't been licensed yet.

Oh, and a few manga that I don't recommend (that I own):

    -Gravitation
    -Planet Ladder

Both suffer from having characters that all look the same.

    I haven't tried the anime...

By the way, if I haven't stressed it enough... everyone needs to get Azumanga Daioh. There are even a few AKB48-like girls...

    Sakaki - Sayaka
    Osaka - Haruna
    Tomo - Natsuki
    Chiyo - Erena
    Yomi - Kazumi
    Kagura - Sae

That's what I think, at least.

^I don't know about the other girls, but I immediately thought of Sayaka when I saw Sakaki. They're both so cool and cute at the same time. ^_^
