Tokyo-based American YouTuber John Daub (who has occasionally appeared as a reporter on NHK World) has posted a video of a walk around Akihabara - at 8:14 he talks about the area in front of the station and how it has changed, and he mentions the former AKB48 Cafe:

The Japanese parliament has approved a change to a decades-old law, which will allow divorced couples to share custody of their children from 2026.

Traditionally, custody is granted to a single parent who is then able to completely cut off the other parent's access to their children.

Until Friday, Japan was the only G7 country that did not recognise the legal concept of joint custody.

Most divorces in Japan happen through "consent divorce" - where both parties sign a paper and mutually end a marriage.

In this scenario, lawyers say, the couple is free to decide custody and visitation arrangements. But if the two parties go to court, the judge awards custody to one parent.

This system has drawn criticism from divorced parents who say they have been estranged from their children as a result.

Akira Ueno, a lawyer who specialises in parental abduction cases told the BBC that this system dates back to before the second world war, based on the idea that children were "the property of the household", with the head of the household being a man.

"So if the wife gets divorced, she ends up being kicked out of the house while the child is kept with the father," Mr Ueno explains.

Last year, the laws were once again thrown into the spotlight when Japanese table tennis star Ai Fukuhara was accused by her ex-husband of abducting their son.

Chiang Hung-Chieh, a Taiwanese table tennis player, said they had filed for divorce several years ago, with both reportedly agreeing to joint custody while in Taiwan.

But after she returned to Japan with their son, she cut off contact with Chiang, refusing to bring their son back to Taiwan.

Gakky (Aragaki Yui) is trending in Japanese X.
Rumor has it that her husband Hoshino Gen committed adultery with a just married NHK news anchor. Their affair was caught in the act but Hoshino Gen's company reportedly spent a lot of money to hide the scandal from public view.
Hoshino Gen and Gakky divorced in January 2024 but their divorce wasn't publicly announced.
The NHK news anchor was forced out of her husband's house by him and is now homeless, having to live in net cafes.

Today is my birthday so I'm gonna make a wish. I hope that when I go to Japan, somehow, someway, I meet Shiraishi Mai.

Or any of my kami-oshis on my list.

    Putting this into existence!

I watched some of JamFest this weekend. Artists such at denpagumi, CANDY TUNE, Tsubaki Factory. and man the crowd was so into the acts. so much energy. likely a younger demographic compared to AKB48, and we'll likely see many of these same fans at tokyo idol fest in August, bringing the same energy is they happen to be at the AKB48 stages. But 2 big differences I observed as an AKB48 old fan. AKI-P music is story driven love songs from another era (my era) compared to the fully electronic sounds of the newer? (denpagumi was formed in 2008) acts. and secondly new-AKB48 goes hard with the visuals (no comparison imo).

When I was in Tokyo last month I went to an idol event in Shinagawa called BLT Wonderland Live which included performances by FRUITS ZIPPER, iLiFE!, Jams Collection, Takane no Nadeshiko and Babababambi, and likewise the audience was young, energetic and really into the acts with lots of wotagei. I was quite surprised and I was actually quite glad that I'd decided to stand at the back where it was quieter. The event started with a special introduction from Aki-P's WHITE SCORPION who performed 3 of their songs and they seemed to be kind of out of place at the event with a different style and less enthusiasm from the audience.

However I've become a big fan of WHITE SCORPION and I saw them perform a week later at a mini-live at a shopping mall in Yokohama where the audience was rather older and quieter, indeed more like one that you'd find at a typical AKB48 concert. The group probably appeals to me because their style of music is closer to my (older) era and and the visuals of the members are strong (my oshimen is NICO who I think is stunningly pretty).
