Anyone who's even mildly thin looks extraordinarily skinny from the side. Miichan's arms and her and Rina's lil tummies are more reliable details to go by in that picture...and, for the record, I don't think either of those girls is particularly skinny. (Thin, definitely, skinny...eh.)
Now, Mariko DOES have an extremely small waist, but she also has pretty big hips. (In comparison--as in, most people with that waist would not have those hips.) So she looks a lot skinnier because of that.

Mayu, on the other hand, has really bony arms and super intense cheekbones. It certainly doesn't make her look any less cute, though, and as long as she's okay with eating a steak (let's hope) I'm okay with her being skinny.

A hug would probably make Mayu even skinnier. She's so cute I'd probably crush her

    Bear hug FTW!

There's also a difference between 'healthy with a very thin physique' to a someone who can be considered skinny but only because they're forcing their bodies to look that way.

Without a doubt, Mayu isn't the latter. Besides, she's only 13, most girls go through major weight changes during their early teen years. One year you could a certain weight, the next year, totally different.

Looks like she really close with Erena from the making of Bingo.

Painfully so (x___x) I like Mayu by herself, but her and Erena should never be allowed to sing together. Ever again. For the sake of my ears.

The making of was the first time I finally got to hear her speaking voice too. Painfully high and cute (x___x)

I heard Mayu speak in the making of BINGO! and it ain't that bad. But maybe that's because I'm a Kasai fanboy and I'm already immune to high and cute voices. ;P

All these years in Japan and I still can't get used to their high, squeaky voices. But Mayu is cute enough for me to ignore it for now...

If her parents are objecting to her being on the show, hurray for them. At least she won't have to sing those lyrics which are too sexually driven. There's plenty of other musical groups in Japan. :)

Uh, if you don't like the lyrics, why are you even a fan?

I like the lyrics, I just wouldn't want my thirteen year old daughter to be singing them in front of a bunch of leering "wataku" or whatever they are called. I love to hear the girls sing and dance even though I don't understand Japanese. Now that I have obtained videos with subtitles, I can fully agree with Mayu's parents. Since I am not related to any of AKB48 girls I will continue to enjoy them just like of you guys.

It Mayu's decision to be there, she's a big girl. I don't understand how anyone could willingly wish for one of the girls to be elsewhere just because you don't like the lyrics she sings. Maybe you don't like it, but Mayu wants to be there. She stated that it was her dream to join AKB48, ever since the group started. Now she has. More power to her, I say <3

I'd hardly call a 13 year old a big girl, but surely the parents knew of the image of the group beforehand. I mean, idols don't exactly sing about sunshine and genki flowers all the time. I certainly don't hope she leaves, but I can understand both sides of the coin here.

13 is a big girl in my eyes :p It's not like she's some four year old being paraded out on a stage with no idea of what she's doing. She's smart enough and old enough to know the group for what it is, that's enough for me.

I don't know yhe law in Japan, but, in the USA a thirteen year old is a minor and subject to the legal control of the minor by the parents. Of course this is not the first time a teen is not in agreement with the wishes of her parents. However, the days when a Japanese teen obeyed her parents are probably dead and long gone. Most of the girls in AKB48 are minors and are there because their parents allow it. These girls are very talented and deserve to be adored by us their fans.
