I was watching all the 11th year Birthday Lives this week, and like most of us here (and the members themselves), every performance was filled with a sense of both extreme joy and sadness at times. In all the performances that included Mizuki-san, I was filled with pride and happiness to see her become the person I’ve felt she was meant to be, and fulfill her rightful position within the group. When I saw how she put together the last song for the 3rd-gen concert, I realized this has always been her nature.

Though it’s hard to believe the third gens have been around for 7 years, it always seemed Mizuki’s early career was spent being set somewhat apart and separate from the others. Though I’ve said this before, probably the best example among many might be found on episode 4 of “No Gaku Tabi” when she was given the task, alone among the members, to create an MC presentation which utilized the sea lions and the trainers. Due to the entire process being caught on camera, it is probably one of the best studies of how a truly innovative mind works.

While her initial job was somewhat simple, Mizuki had the vision of setting the task to Nogizaka music in front of the audience for a grand finale, and single-handedly managed to get everyone on board. . .including the sea lions themselves. Judging by the crowd’s reaction and the staff’s tears afterwards, it was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
