AKB48's Yokoyama Yui appeared at a JR Highway Bus presentation in Tokyo on March 2.

Recollecting her candidate days

Yokoyama, who serves as the ambassador for the night highway bus linking Tokyo and Osaka and appears in new commercials, is from Kyoto Prefecture. When she was a kenkyuusei candidate of AKB48 (i.e. before passing the final audition to become a member), she attended high school and worked a part-time job on the weekdays, and used the same bus on weekends to attend lessons in Tokyo.

She smiled and said about this ambassador position with a link to her past, "Eight years ago I chased my dream and am now in AKB48, so I'm really happy to represent something that helped motivate my to pursue my dream."

On the bus, because she did not have a smartphone at the time, "I used a DVD player to play DVDs and listen on earphones, in order to mentally rehearse," she recalled doing dance choreography. When asked, "When you were riding the bus, what kind of thoughts did you have?", she reflected keenly, "I felt both my desire to join AKB and uneasiness that I couldn't perform well at lessons. To me, it was an irreplaceable time."

Yokoyama Yui's dream from now on

When asked about what dream she further wanted to chase from now on, she responded with her own dream of "acting and singing in the future". In addition, like a soukantoku, she declared her thoughts about members and the group as a whole, "Every member has her own dreams, so I hope many of them can come true," and "I want AKB48 to become a group loved by many people for a long time."

Interesting observation from the most recent Irodori Nikki: she mentioned that they flew from Tokyo this time (probably to Osaka Itami Airport) and then a bus to get to Kyotanba, instead of taking the Shinkansen as usual, since it was probably faster. There was also a huge sponsorship credit to JR West Bus, so I'm guessing they provided that bus from the airport. Funny how these tie-ins work into other aspects of her work!

 

May i ask what sakura baking at that time? From the sounds of it, it looks terrible..

Looks like Yui thought of AKB & her goal still haven't wavered at all.. Same answer & determination.. & thats what i like about her..
That's one way to promote the brand.. Very smart move from both parties..

The bus name was chosen from fan submissions to be DREAM Relier; relier means to connect or bind in French. Yui was named that by her parents with the meaning of joining people together, so she feels like it was fate!

I did a search on that pizza place and the area she was in for that episode, it is quite far from Kyoto and probably shinkansen don't reach there lol

& another about working & going eating with Okabe Rin on break time before going to the next job.. & she says RinRin is really cute & hardworking.. she also says she like her a lot..

Thanks @Zuu Ryuzuma 48 from team 8 Okabe Rin - Berinchan with Ota Nao - Tanao chan are really close with Yui. Yui and Berin worked together for McDonalds anime too. Rinrin is one of my fav so god bless me to see them together

Oh I thought there're a lot of kouhai call her Yuihan-san beside Yokoyama-san, senpais usually call her Yuichan.
