I've just watched Kin Sma SP: AKB48 Troubled Times
just recently I thought AKB48 easily rise up to popularity and been
going strong for a long time but I never thought that they have
endured so much and even possibly disbanding around 2009.
I have realized that they have just recently risen up to popularity.

my respect for them greatly increased.especially for team A
who really started from scratches. and that Jurina doesn't really
deserve the center position.(I don't hate Jurina, There is no SKE48
without AKB48) I wonder what the other's felt when they
heard that Jurina will be taking the center position.maybe
they feel that even though they were been in the group
for a long time their hardwork had not been recognized by Aki-P.imo!!

waited for this thread for a long time! [hehe]
    my thoughts:
akb went through a tough time, i already knew that but i didnt know it was tough for 4 years...
behind the scenes for 53rd japan record :cute:
i cant believe someone threw their piece of paper in front of takamina... [boom]
im happy that takamina used to be most popular (still is in my world) :inlove:

this actually made my love for takamina grow, grow and grow :)

AKB is really....a strong group. Especially the first years they have been through.
And my respect about them is increased, especially for the first generation.

And on top of all, this history made me cried really hard...
I hope they will be succeed even more from now on :)

This special left me wondering how they got their record deal with King records after being dropped by Defstar and how Oogoe Diamond sold so much more than their previous singles. I also felt really bad for Tomochin after hearing about what people said to her at school and her nervous breakdown. Thinking of her in pain, especially back then really hurts. After hearing about fans complaining about all the hard working girls who don't get into the singles I thought to myself, "This is still a problem that requires a better solution than one fan voted election each year". I don't know how well this would work, but I think two completely different lineups for two singles in addition to Akimoto's usual senbatsu, the fan voted single, and the Janken single might help the matter.

I have been wondering about some thing too after watching this. The part when they're going through their "indie idol" phase, a time when their singles sales isn't going well which had also caused Tomochin to breakdown. Now when i think about it, isn't this the period when Maimai graduated? If this is true then i have a feeling that maybe one of the real reasons why Maimai left the group was because she couldn't take it anymore just like Tomochin and most of the girls. The sense of "i won't be able to advance and move forward in my career if AKB48's futures are going to continue like this" [think]

EDIT: Ok, Maimai did graduated during that time period :^^;:....too bad, if only she had decided to endured a little more, she would have tasted "the sweetest victory" AKB48 (especially the remaining 1st generation members) are enjoying right now.

Yeah, that's my thought on most of the 1st gen who quit. If only they could endured just a little bit more.
Anyways, about the special itself, I knew most of the things they talked about, but I still ended up getting really emotional and crying in many places. I was reminded of how hard they had to endure to reach to where they are now and it's like I'm falling in love with them all over again. :)
What I didn't know though was Tomochin's breakdown. It seems like she's has quite a few. Oh, and the acting was really cute, too. (Little Acchan, Takamina, Yuko, Koji, too cute :3)

I gained respect for Tomochin for she endured through all the toughest times in AKB. Now I can understand why Aki-P gives her the special treatment and makes it Kami8 when she drops from Kami7. :)

I was lucky enough to watch this when I was in Japan. Didn't really know anything about AKB then but seeing them work so hard made me really respect them. Now I love em.

Must have been hard for the other girls when Aki-P chose Acchan as the solo/centre for nagisa no cherry

it's super late to reply to this, but as a Maimai oshi I feel like I have to clarify.
She graduated when the group was starting to take off, Oogoe Diamond sold 80K copies which is a HUGE leap considering they used to sell in the 20K range when they were with DefStar, and I don't think she was unaware that AKB was getting big, I just think she moved on because she cared more about furthering her own solo career. Maimai was a very ambitious girl (and I don't mean this in a bad way, she was my oshi after all and I really really love her even to this day) and even when she was interviewed as a member of AKB about what the group meant to her she would say stuff like "A stepping stone to become famous" or something along those lines as opposed to "a family" "a treasure" "my life" or whatever else the other girls answered.

Not saying that she didn't care about AKB, because she cared a whole lot, and she tried her very best to perform as much as she could in the theater shows and appear in concerts even though she was probably the busiest girl in AKB back then because of her multiple modeling commitments. But she was determined to make her career as a talento happen, and being an idol was a stepping stone for that to her, once she accomplished it she probably didn't want to jeopardize it by staying in AKB and left.

She's one of the most recognized talentos in Japan as of now, so I think she made the right decision. Besides, being an AKB member has its downfalls, like the pesky no dating rule and the general invasion of privacy, so it's perfectly understandable if someone chooses to stay away from that and pursue their own path.
I'm just saying this because I'd like to bring another perspective to the discussion and point out that there's life after AKB and that some girls might be happier that way even if they missed the "big boom" :)

I should probably get to watch this Special though, I'll see if I can find it because it sounds interesting.

^I understand and respect your point of view as maimai oshi, i also thought exactly like you on why maimai graduated but after watching this show you will see there's more to it than the reason that you have mentioned before :^^;:. I'm not skeptical, but you should watch this tv show and listen to the comments the first generation members, especially Mariko said about the real reason why Maimai and 4 other girls decided to graduated from AKB48 at the same time. You will see the bigger picture behind it :). I didn't blame Maimai for doing what she did. Even Mariko said it's a correct decision from 5 of them to jumped the ship and leave AKB at THAT time but i wish if she had decided to endured the difficult times a little bit more. She had gone through and experiencing all the hard times with AKB48 back when they first started, so i think she deserve to taste and enjoy the massive success that AKB48, especially the remaining 1st gen members are having right now :)

I did watch it when it was aired but only this week i watched the subbed version. Thanks to SUB48 ;)

It's nice to see some things from the past, like the pillars at the theater and the MVP t-shirt prize.

Also, it's nice to see how Aki-P care about the members and fans, and how he keep innovating to make AKB grow.

After watch it and see the tough times they went, I'm proud that I became a AKB fan. I'll support them until the end.

Late here, but this is a must watch video for all AKB fans.

ha.. I watched this vid.. with my rooms closed.. as if I'm watching porn.. (maybe my parents thought that I watched porn.. but I don't care..) coz.. am to embarrassed. I cried a lot..

seriously!! at that time, they were like 16? 17? and they done something I couldn't do until now..
when I always make excuses for my fall, not with them.. they move forward toward their dream, though they being hurt a lot on the process.. when what I did was quit halfway and thought "it's impossible anyway.."

when lots of idols rely on the management's big name, or their marketing skills and channels..
AKB have to do those by themselves.. giving brochures on christmas and in events, etc..
yea they deserve respect.. they EARNED it.. not because of some big name management that ensures your success..

    that's why I'm coming to a conclusions..
if anyone want to learn A BIT about AKB.. just a BIT.. they'll be a fan.. 100% guarantee.. not because of their beauty, not the complexity level of their dance, not because of the music composition or the PV's cinematography.. but somehow, they gave u energy, motivation, inspiration and such.. (that's what the 1st theater fans letter about rite? hehe)

in some subs, there're some writing like this..
"support your idols!! buy anything they sell!"
"spread AKB in your local area"
what're you waiting for?? do it! [rock] [party]
