I better explain where I'm coming from with my criticism. I admit that flat out claiming she doesn't work hard is a bit rude exaggeration. All AKB48 members are hard workers to some extent - they've made it through the auditions and have been promoted to become regular members after all. Paruru is not an exception to that. However, when put next to hear fellow AKB members she doesn't have as solid a track record as they do.
While most of the senbatsu might remain quiet on music programs they have other activities where they show their specialties and work their asses off for AKB's sake. So far Paruru has had less chances to prove herself so she should make more use of the chance she is given. Now that she is being pushed she is just like a decoration on the wall - waiting for others to praise her instead of really doing something to earn the praise. She hasn't joined any of the clubs and she showed selfishness and coldness with her election speech. Why aren't we allowed to criticize her for that?
What I perceive as lack of motivation and effort leads us to an important question. If the bar set by other members is too high for her, why would she deserve to be the one that is pushed? AKB's current front girls are very skilled at pushing themselves and promoting the group in general. They won't be around forever. That's why the management needs to pick and train the right girls for that in the future. Right now it looks like they are letting Paruru gain experience so that she can take their place in the future. My problem is that she doesn't seem to be intent on improving herself for that. An idol group needs a hungry and competitive force to keep it on top. If you wonder why it needs
to be so, just look at the history. The most recent and notable example is Morning Musume and the members of its first four generations. They were dead serious about promoting themselves and stealing the center when Morning Musume was at the top. When the change of generation came and the level of quality and "hungriness" decreased so did Morning Musume's popularity decline as well.
This is what I want to say to those Paruru fans who feel disturbed and angry due to my earlier posts in this thread. I'm taking the extremely "negative" way because I believe you are not able to evaluate her well enough on your own.
I'd like to point out that saying that we can't know anything about her work rate or upbringing is an exaggeration as well. For work rate, we can clearly see her appear in different AKB projects more and more often nowadays. If she can't convince us of her motivation with her public appearances then there's must be something she is lacking.
Disc made a good point there. I made a mistake by touting out negative assumptions. However, symbv came to my rescue and pointed out the reason for my comment about Paruru being spoiled - I simply forgot to add the details because I assumed you knew about it. These sort of stories paint a negative picture of her as a spoiled girl who has very little experience of the real world.
Speaking of assumptions, can you tell me what makes a positive assumption more constructive than a negative one? I think it's important to think straight about AKB and not indulge too much in one's personal fantasy. You should be able to understand that the negative assumptions can be true. That shouldn't change your respect for the girls.
Her lack of motivation/ambition can be explained by her dream. If she has no other dream than being close to idols then she's nothing but an idol fan like we are. Without a higher and more ambitious dream she will never have enough motivation to break into kami7. She shouldn't be allowed to reach that far if she does not have the passion for it because being a front member means that you have to defend AKB with all of one's power. What happens when a front girl can't stand up to the challenge?
Voightkampff has apparently misunderstood why I posted a link to the music program. I presented it as an example how shaky her ability to talk on TV can be. First of all, the situation is completely ignited by Nakai shouting out to her. Not knowing a newbie's name might be amusing once, but that can't be done over and over again. That was the only really amusing part of the video because the rest of it has the other members and the hosts trying to rescue the program.
She bluntly says that Nakai is the same age as her father and then doesn't go anywhere it. She leaves the follow-up completely empty. Without Nakai's professional reaction, Makiko's redeeming follow-up and Yuko's good thinking afterwards the atmosphere could have become quite grim. Without others' help that could have ended up on the floor of the cutting room because Paruru didn't do it properly.
Now what would be the case if she doesn't receive criticism for that? She wouldn't learn from mistakes, but given the impression she has given to me so far it doesn't look like she learns that easily from her mistakes. At least not with fans who only attempt to please her. Eventually when it's her time to take a front girl position she still wouldn't be able to handle music programs like a front girl needs to. This is something that shouldn't be forgotten.
It's true that their appearances are sometimes scripted. However, I don't think the management would endorse limiting her participation to passivity because it doesn't give her the required experience. As a passive girl she wouldn't be in demand so it's not favorable for them to use her just like that. Although judging from this week's dokkiri on Kayoukyoku it seems that Kayoukyoku isn't that heavily scripted because the girls were allowed to do as they pleased.
And this brings up that scary part of Paruru fandom yet again: why is everything she does turned into a good thing? If she's passive then you say she's awesome because she's passive regardless of the situation. If her passivity is a problem then the blame is turned on others because you seem to believe that she can't possibly do anything wrong.
If you want examples other than music programs regardless of my explanation above, I have another recent outing to offer to you: the Mechaike episode before the election
. It's a different sort of situation with less members yet she never even tries to do anything out of her own initiative. She just sits there letting others do her work for her.
She might be designated as Team 4's ace, but I personally don't find the quality of her performance to be that special either. It's pretty much on the same level as the rest of Team 4 members - it's not on some special level above them. As an ace she is more like Acchan in her early days so I can see why she is on her way to become an ace. However, Acchan overcame the hurdles she had, but will Paruru do that? I'm not sure at all. Her singing voice is quite idolish and she reminds me of Mayuyu in a way, but there's a difference between the two as symbv mentioned in an earlier post:
symbv wrote:Paruru has a similar nickname as Mayuyu and Paruru is only a few weeks younger than Mayuyu, and both are doing center position role. Fans see Mayuyu's present look as the result of a lot of hard work and keen observation of what idols should be like; they are not sure the same will happen in Paruru's case - perhaps her development may take a more gradual route?
Above all, I am a bit puzzled why you reject criticism. It is almost as if you don't want to her change at all. Changing and growing up is the essence of being an idol. Being an idol isn't an end in itself because it's not something you can do for the rest of your life. Being an idol is supposed to be a stepping stone. Because of that you remind me of a certain group of Japanese Paruru fans who even admit being masochistic. They buy several tickets to her handshake events to please her. That way they want to make her think her line is more crowded than others. That's not how it should work. The idea is that the idol pleases her fans instead of the fans only pleasing the idol. This sort of backhanded support will most likely have bad consequences for Paruru eventually.
Here are posts where Japanese fans admit what I wrote above:http://www.akb48mt.com/archives/5071259.htmlhttp://blog.livedoor.jp/livegems7799/ar ... 31233.html
