She expected to receive fan letters congratulating her, but instead she received hate mail. Fans wrote to her saying they wanted to see other members at the center, or that they were disappointed she was in the song. Minegishi, who was 13 at the time, had a breakdown. She reported that she developed anxiety to go on stage, her legs would shake, she would cry, and she nearly quit AKB48. She decided to skip Team A theater shows and eventually her grandmother came to her house, telling her that she would protect Minami and talk directly to any fans who hurt her. Minami said this gave her the courage to continue performing.

* Former AKB48 staff member and author Iwasaki Natsumi wrote the novel Moshidora and based the main character Kawashima Minami after Minegishi. She read the script constantly on her mobile phone to memorize it, and was praised for her performance.
 +
* In January 2013 she was involved in a prolific scandal after she was photographed leaving the apartment of Shirahama Alan, violating the Love Ban. She shaved her head in repentance and an apology video was uploaded to YouTube. Minegishi was then demoted to AKB48 Kenkyuusei.

 +
* She holds the record for the longest wait time between graduation announcement (December 8th, 2019) and actual graduation (May 22nd, 2021), lasting 1 year and 6 months. This was due to the COVID-19 pandemic delaying the graduation concert. This record was previously held by former general manager Takahashi Minami (1 year and 4 months).
 +
* She transferred from Ogi Production to Mama & Son in July 2021.
 +
* In August 2022 she announced her marriage to Tetsuya, leader of the YouTube group Tokai On Air. They were first confirmed to be dating in September 2021.
 +
** In the past, she had said that she wanted to get married at around age 30. Indeed, she was 29 years old at the time of her engagement.
 +
** She also said that she would like her future husband to call  her "Minami" rather than "Miichan", as she used to feel jealous of Takahashi Minami because everyone called her Minami, while Minegishi was referred to as Miichan.

• During her teenage years, Minegishi was known as the "rebellious child."
• Good friends with: Maeda Atsuko, Takahashi Minami, Kojima Haruna, Itano Tomomi, Shinoda Mariko, Nishino Miki
• Former leader of the Driving Club
• She has an older sister (two years older) and a younger brother (two years younger).
• Her mother chose the name "Minami" to create a cute and girly image. Minami used to find this fact emabarrasing, but she grew to like her name.
• She began taking dance lessons from the age of four. She considers dance her favorite sport.
• She learned ballet from age four and hip-hop from age six, as well as singing, acting, and English.
• In kindergarten her dream was to become a kindergarten teacher.
• She was the class representative in elementary school and described herself as "baselessly self-confident".
• She had the nickname Gojira (Godzilla) in elementary school, but she was also often associated with Gachapin (a Japanese children's cartoon character).
• Her father was a big fan of Asaka Yui and Minamino Yoko, and also frequently asked her to take photos of the other AKB48 members.
• Her parents used to run a coffee shop named "Tea Room Tane" located in Takashimadaira, Tokyo. On February 26, 2016 it was remodeled to a beer specialty pub named "Kirigirisu" (Cricket). It could be possible that the names were derived from the No Sleeves songs Tane and Kirigirisu Jin.
• She was a fan of Morning Musume. In elementary school she applied for the Hello Project Kids Audition, but did not pass.
• Her Morning Musume oshimen was Goto Maki.
• When she was one year old, she received a cuddly toy named "Beaver-chan." She introduced the toy to her fans in the introduction profile video for AKB48's first single Aitakatta. After this, it also appeared in her first photobook and her parents took it with them to see her backstage after the General Election 2013.
• She used to want to be the orthodox idol type, but she was often told she would fit better as a variety idol due to her rebellious persona. She was unhappy with this for a while, but eventually embraced being a Variety Idol. As of 2022 she is frequently a guest on different types of variety shows.
• After she joined AKB48 she experienced bullying at her middle school. Not many students from her school worked as entertainers, and upperclassmen would make fun of her for being an idol.
• She did not have a unit position in the original lineup of the Team A 1st Stage, nor in Team A 2nd Stage. She received fan letters that sympathized with her and supported her.
• In a 2010 Shukan Asahi interview, she shared that for the Team A 3rd Stage she was finally given a song where she was at the center of the choreography, Seifuku ga Jama wo Suru.
• Former AKB48 staff member and author Iwasaki Natsumi wrote the novel Moshidora and based the main character Kawashima Minami after Minegishi. He said that Minegishi's greatest strength was is that she could make other members stand out with her MC skills, and that was what he wanted to model Kawashima after.
• Ironically, Minegishi played the supporting character Houjou Ayano in the live action film of Moshidora. Maeda Atsuko played Kawashima Minami instead.
• When she turned 18 in 2010 she said that what she was most excited about was that she could now appear on late-night radio.
• In August 2010 Takahashi Minami was scheduled to perform a rakugo recitation for the release of No Sleeves' single Kimi Shika. However, Takahashi became hospitalized due to overwork just six days before the show. Minegishi took over, and memorized the rakugo work "Kamotori" in only five days. She read the script constantly on her mobile phone to memorize it, and was praised for her performance.
• In January 2013 she was involved in a prolific scandal after she was photographed leaving the apartment of Shirahama Alan, violating the Love Ban. She shaved her head in repentance and an apology video was uploaded to YouTube. Minegishi was then demoted to AKB48 Kenkyuusei.
• After becoming Team 4 captain, she became known for her good relationship with younger members.
• She asked younger members to called her Miichan rather than Minegishi-san to help them feel more comfortable.
• She often read other members' blogs.
• She studies idol photobooks to learn more poses. This was demonstrated in AKB48 600sec.
• She collects hats.
• She believed in fortune telling.
• after being ranked 1st in 2012 and the subsequent events that year might have changed that though
• in episode 37 of Sayonara Mouri-san she warned the members not to take it all too seriously
• She keeps warm in winter by pretending it's summer and feeling thankful that it's so breezy. She learned this from a manga.
• She is often jealous of Kojima Haruna for being able to write kanji that she can't write herself.
• She was allergic to cats but grew out of it and in 2020, on the recommendation of Kojima Haruna, got a Scottish Fold she called Shakeh (Salmon).
• Her character in Majisuka Gakuen 2 was "Shaku" (screentime), as she was known to always strive to get more screentime on variety shows.
• Despite being known for her bright character on variety shows, she says she has a negative personality. She, Kitahara Rie, and Sashihara Rino are all alike in this regard, and even formed a "Negative Club" (a pun in Japanese, ネガティ部 negati-bu).
• She was a former member of the fake group "SONE" with Kitahara Rie, Sashihara Rino and Miyazaki Miho, that regularly participated in Request Hour MCs. They “disbanded” in 2014.
• She was on hiatus from June 20th to July 8th, 2014 for treatment of a kidney cyst.
• Her poster for the 2017 General Election was designed by Lily Franky, a Japanese award-winning illustrator, writer and actor and close friend.
• She is the only AKB48 member to have been on all four possible teams and a Kenkyuusei. This excludes Team 8, as Team 8 is only available through special audition.
• AKB48's 51st single Jabaja was the first AKB48 single since debut to not include Minegishi on any song.
• She reached 5,000 days as an AKB48 member on August 16th, 2019.
• She had her 1,000th theater performance on February 21st, 2020.
• Despite being the last member of the 1st Generation to graduate, she was never the oldest active member of the AKB48 group. Kashiwagi Yuki of the 3rd Generation was always older than her.
• She holds the record for the longest wait time between graduation announcement (December 8th, 2019) and actual graduation (May 22nd, 2021), lasting 1 year and 6 months. This was due to the COVID-19 pandemic delaying the graduation concert. This record was previously held by former general manager Takahashi Minami (1 year and 4 months).
• She transferred from Ogi Production to Mama & Son in July 2021.
• In August 2022 she announced her marriage to Tetsuya, leader of the YouTube group Tokai On Air. They were first confirmed to be dating in September 2021.
• In the past, she had said that she wanted to get married at around age 30. Indeed, she was 29 years old at the time of her engagement.
• She also said that she would like her future husband to call her "Minami" rather than "Miichan", as she used to feel jealous of Takahashi Minami because everyone called her Minami, while Minegishi was referred to as Miichan.
