  • Former member of Light Music Club
  • She has a younger brother.
  • She has owned a munchkin cat named "Nya-chan" since August 2011. She also has Pomeranian dogs named "Kuma" and "Pu".
  • She has liked anime and manga since she was young, particularly shounen series.
  • She was inspired to join the entertainment world to fulfill her mother's dream. Her mother had participated in many auditions in the past, but never had success.
  • Her childhood best friend since 4th grade is a girl known as "Macchan". Macchan appeared in a special episode of AKBINGO! where it was told that she and Minami had drifted apart after Minami joined AKB48. The two reunited during the episode at their former high school.
    • Macchan was tomboyish and used the pronoun "ore" (masculine "I"). This inspired Minami to be tomboyish as well.
    • They formed a rock band in middle school with two other friends, though none of them could play instruments.
  • As a child she suffered from bronchial asthma, and in kindergarten she went to the hospital for IV drips almost 60 times. Her condition improved by 3rd grade of elementary school, but she remained quite small and thin.
  • Before joining AKB48, she competed in the 30th HoriPro Talent Contest (第30回ホリプロタレントスカウトキャラバン) and ranked in the Top 15 out of 52,547 contestants.
    • She received the loudest applause after her singing performance during this contest, and was the only girl who didn't cry when the winner was announced.
    • Coincidentally, Akimoto Yasushi was one of the judges at this competition. He brought along an AKB48 scout who passed out audition flyers to all girls who didn't pass the HoriPro audition, including Minami.
  • She was the original center of AKB48.
  • The first 1st Generation member she spoke with was Masuyama Kayano. She asked Kayano to help her with the choreography at the final audition round.
  • Aikmoto Yasushi described her as someone who is extremely reliable, like an older sister or student council president. She was a mental pillar for the group, no staff member ever disliked her, and she was "the soul of AKB48".
    • Ironically, Togasaki Tomonobu shared that the only reason Minami passed the audition was because 48 appeared on her application. Her birthday is April 8th (4/8) and she is 148.5cm tall.
  • She describes herself as stubborn, nervous, and scary when she is angry. She thinks others probably view her as a serious person.
  • She had no dance experience prior to joining AKB48. She and Maeda Atsuko often stayed late to practice for the Team A 1st Stage debut performance.
  • She and Oshima Mai were the first two AKB48 members to receive fan letters, both in January 2006.
  • She joined Ogi Production in 2007.
  • She was officially announced as Team A captain during the 2009 Team Shuffle. She had taken on a leader role long before this. She could often be seen giving speeches and leading the group huddles at concerts and stage performances.
    • This, among other things, has led to many fans to refer to her as the captain of AKB48 (until she was promoted to be official General Director of AKB48 in AKB48 in TOKYO DOME ~1830m no Yume~).
    • Her later nickname Sou-chan derived from Soukantoku, the Japanese word for General Director.
  • She was known for her "failing" (suberi) character on variety shows. For example, she was bad at comedy gags, and would tell stories that she thought were funny but were actually not.
  • Her trademark hairstyle was long hair in a half-ponytail with a ribbon. She collected ribbons since the upper grades of elementary school.
    • In May 2012 her hair caught on fire as a result of a stage pyrotechnic accident. Many inches were burned off, and she wore her hair in a bob without a ribbon for the remainder of her time in AKB48.
  • She was known to have poor fashion sense. She was infamous for a banana-print white jacket, which she later gifted to Murashige Anna.
  • She is very empathetic for others and cries easily.
  • She is bad at academics, and according to Minegishi Minami she cannot name two Japanese prefectures quickly when asked, and is bad at kanji.
  • She was rarely seen without makeup.
  • She only believes in fortune-telling when it's a good one.
  • She suffers from hay fever (seasonal allergies) and wears masks year-round.
  • She is allergic to eggs.
  • She wants to visit Egypt someday.
  • She does not watch TV, instead she closes her eyes and daydreams until she wants to go to bed.
  • She likes indoors better than outdoors and is sensitive to heat and coldness.
  • Her favorite food is katsudon. Her favorite katsudon restaurant is Bairin in Ginza, Tokyo. She frequented it so often that she was given a lifetime free katsudon certificate, and said she would even eat it for her last meal.
  • Her childhood hero is Kakuranger.
  • She thinks that she is good at decisive dance choreography, but not as good at graceful dance steps.
  • She disliked wearing swimsuits for gravure or music videos and would ask for her costumes to be modified into skirts instead.
  • She is good at waking up early and was often the member who would wake up everyone else when they stayed in hotels together. However, she is also good at falling asleep and often napped during breaks or travel time.
  • As seen on AKB 1ji 59fun!, she can't skip properly.
  • She likes guys who wear suits, particularly when they're fixing their collars.
  • On December 23, 2008 she became the first AKB48 member to reach 500 performances at the AKB48 theater.
  • She has been a Correctional Support Officer for the Japanese Ministry of Justice since 2015.
  • In 2016, the time passing between her graduation announcement and the actual graduation was the longest announcement period in 48 Group history (1 year and 4 months). She announced her graduation on December 8th, 2014, to be scheduled for December 8th, 2015. It was eventually delayed to April 8th, 2016 due to venue scheduling. This record was later broken by Minegishi Minami, whose graduation was delayed due to COVID-19.
  • From April 4, 2016 to September 30, 2020 she had her own radio show, "What will Takahashi Minami Do From Now On?". She did a wide range of activities such as DJing, answering questions from listeners, discussing daily news, hosting an afternoon band program, etc.
    • She said that she actively avoided mentioning AKB48 on the show in order to distance herself and develop her own career.
  • In October 2016 she released her first solo album, Aishi Te mo Ii Desu ka?.
  • In April 2017, April 2018, and April 2019 she held solo live concerts titled "MINAMI TAKAKASHI Birthday Live".
  • She got married on May 1st, 2019 to a non-celebrity. Her husband is 11 years older than her and works at an IT-related company.
  • On May 23rd, 2021 she appeared at Minegishi Minami Graduation Concert ~Sakura no Sakanai Haru wa Nai~. She was part of three songs with No Sleeves (see Concert Unit section below) and centered RIVER together with Okada Nana.
  • In 2022 she published a recipe book.
