ずっと歩き続けたんだ
どこにいるのかわからずに
何かに逆らいたかった

道は果てなく
僕は無我夢中だった
少しでも気を緩めると

人はなぜ生まれるのだろう?
いつか死んでしまうのに
つらい毎日の中で
生きる意味を知りたかった

太宰治を読んだか?と聞かれた
君と出会った日
正直に言えば
僕は読んでなかった
近くの本屋で何冊か買って
ファミレスに入った
縋(すが)るように
ページめくりながら自分探した

風はそれでも
何も変わらず吹いていた
スーパーの安売りのちらしが
ひらひら　振り回されてた

行けど夢など
何(なん)にも見つからなかった
夢なんか見てしまったら
挫折が怖くなるだけ

なぜか涙も出やしないよ
愛も枯れるもんなんだ
今日を淡々と生きて
考えないようにする

太宰治を読んだか?と聞かれた
君を友と呼ぼう
残念なことに
本に答えはなかった
"目から鱗が落ちた"というような
奇跡はないけど
ただ　人生とは何か?
語れる友ができた

Facing the wind,
I kept walking on and on
without knowing where I was,
wanting to defy something

The road was endless,
and I lost myself in it
When I stopped paying attention
a bit, my heart was blown away

I wonder why people are born?
Nevertheless they'll die someday
I wanted to know the meaning of life
within each bitter day

"Did you read Dazai Osamu?" I was asked,
the day I met you
If I were to answer honestly,
I didn't
I bought several books at the nearby bookstore,
and brought them to the restaurant
so I could cling to them,
searching for myself as I turned the pages

Even so, the wind
was blowing without changing a thing
Leaflets for a supermarket sale
went fluttering by, blown around

In dreams of going places,
I found nothing
When I do end up dreaming,
I just get afraid of setbacks

Somehow I don't even cry
It's because even my love dies
I'll try to live today
indifferently, without thinking

"Did you read Dazai Osamu?" I was asked
I called you with my friend
Unfortunately,
there was no answer in the book
There's no miracle
like "seeing the light", but
isn't life just something?
My friend could have told me

"Did you read Dazai Osamu?" I was asked,
the day I met you
If I were to answer honestly,
I didn't
I'll always be told
that it's useless if I don't read Dazai Osamu
Yet I'm there,
the same as I was that day
