It's called not blowing your hand too early. Exact same thing happened in OdaEri's room two days earlier, her fans waited until the very last moment to unload so the other girls' fans (including Rika's) wouldn't have time to respond. Or at least, not have time to respond in that contest. More than enough time for them to respond two days later... Clearly some of us can. Just look at how long it takes for the score to change and your position to update after throwing paid gifts. The points only update every few minutes, so the last moments of the contest weren't reflected until about 2 minutes after it ended (and the streams had closed), which is what qpet's second screenshot shows. I took this at 24:04, and that was after getting distracted and then waiting for my useless screenshot app to respond. There was still a possibility that the rankings would change again today, after Showroom purged multi-accounts and similar shenanigans, but they didn't. Rankings at what point in time? People's reasonable expectation is 23:57, maybe 23:56. Anything sooner wouldn't count the 100 towers that fly in Nappi's room at 23:55. You surely cannot claim Ogino overcome more than 2.5 million points without not counting those. I'm not sure where do fan position updates and viewer count updates fit into all of this. They seem to change at different times altogether. Positions change in Nappi's and Rikati's room (not at the same time), they do not in the other two. I see 50 towers at 23:58:30 and 50 towers at 23:59:30 in Ogino's room. There's (comparatively) not that much happening apart from that in the last 2 minutes, so you have to go back. From the gift log video, the 2 minutes before (23:56 and 23:57) look more active, but still not crystal clear that there's such comeback going on (and also I did not see detailed video of Nappi's gift log of that time). It was not clear to me with Odaeri either, but I thought ok, I just didn't pay enough attention. I'm not really sure anymore. I'm not saying it was rigged or anything - the top 100 contributors numbers are monstrous in Ogino's room and beat the other rooms, where support was much "wider" - but the ranking updates play with people's reasonable expectations and inevitably bring up such questions.
The only idea that I came up is SHOWROOM wasn't updating properly the ranking during the last period of the event. As a person who I watched Nappi, Ogiyuka and Akari's SHOWROOM the last minutes, there's no way Ogiyuka could overcome Akari and Nappi during the last 5 minutes. (well it wasn't last 5 minutes because SHOWROOM updated the ranking in 57 more or less) Can't wait for December 18th's battle, Karen x Narumi x Nagisa x Michu x (Maho? Misaki?) will be interesting!! We think x girl is the winner but the true winner is SHOWROOM and AKS. lol
Have you ever tried to throw *stars* in the last second? And seen how long it takes for your points to update? (I haven't either, just asking as that'd be the most comparable scenario.) I know I was surprised/worried a few times that day and earlier when Megu's points were taking so long to update. I think the delay even after the stream is over is fairly "normal", at least when the site is under heavy load like this. That said I wouldn't be surprised if we get another Showroom announcement apologising for delayed ranking updates, like the one a couple days ago (although that problem was slightly different, with rooms reporting rankings from earlier in the day rather than just a few minutes late). Even if it was as current as 23:57, that's still up to 3 minutes of tower throwing. Considering the widespread use of extensions to throw even faster, that's a LONG time. But I wouldn't be surprised if those numbers were already stale by then, from 23:56 or 23:55. Still, Nappi's points must have already included those towers, as that update is what the numbers you posted earlier are based on, and Nappi only gained another ~700k points between that update and the end of the event. Meanwhile, FukuAkari rocketed past her with another 1.5 million points, and Yuka's fans outdid both of them with 4.5 million (at least 375 towers or tower equivalents, maybe more). Not sure if the huge tower dump made Nappi's other fans feel too secure in their position, or they were spent either way (judging by her Top 100, the latter is very possible). Yeah, her 90-100 are the highest of any in this event so far. And her last 6-digit contributor is #43, compared to Odaeri at #35 and FukuAkari at #33. Ogino's top contributors weren't as big as some others, but she doesn't taper off into free-only as fast either.

Mikurin, Yuiyui and Miu are massive favourites, but as we have seen, NMB can do quite well so we cannot count Kobayashi Rina out. But unless any of the 3 has some tricky schedule, it'd be a stunning upset, much bigger than in the other categories. Btw don't forget this category is the one which can only stream 5-8 AM and 5-10 PM on work days so the scheduling will be much different - and that'll favour the strong trio as well. (There's always the winter break period when kids can stream during midday as well, but I'm not sure when that kicks in, the AKB campaign page where such news usually appear is broken for me.)
So it seems that in 17-18, Mikurin is in 4th place... If she can't win something like this, then no one else in HKT can, tragic! If the temporary rankings that showroom shows are to be trusted then HKT is set to take 4th place in 3 events: Nappi for 20-21 (done), Aramaki for 18-19 (hasn't moved in a long time) and Mikurin in 17-18 (though this one has quite some time to go)... How bitter. Will be nice that the NMB machine will give Rinacchi 1st place though since she was crying around bcoz she wasn't promoted or something some time ago. I checked 16 and younger and it looks like AKB and HKT cannibalizing themselves with a huge number of candidates and NMB's Umeyama Cocona, who is very popular and unfairly pretty and is on NMB, is the sure bet for 1st place.
that is very true it's still reasonably close, probably will again get decided only in the last minutes she'll still have it tough, the others had very bad schedule today (Miu streamed not even 100 minutes). But NMB indeed seem very motivated to prove they can. Cocona seems guaranteed. Iwata Hina should also be strong.
