That's what the stage was like

 

There are no seats, it's just a stage at a festival and everyone crowds around (I've been to the event twice).

I asked if the girls would be at a booth or doing anything else during the event on the Japan Day official Facebook and this was their response:
"AKB48's appearance will be limited to the stage performance, which is bound to be fun and exciting!"
So I think it's safe to say that they will only be performing on stage and not participating in anything else.

Looks like now they'll have to spend the rest of the day touring the city, possibly taping for the SHOW.

 

I hate it when people use that kind of answers, after the big bad news they try to conceal it with something that's obvious...

 

Guess I'll have to skip this. Hope all those who go have a great time. Maybe the response will be so good that AKP decides he needs to have a full concert in NYC like MM14 did.

 

I still plan on going, but I still think it's strange to send them over here for a 20 minute performance xD

 

Still think all should go to show the demand to Aki-P. If they can see money making opportunities, they will come with more

 

I guess it's a matter of image so, since someone had to go and it's only 20 minutes, the management sends only a few 'supporting' members...

 

I mean in general xD I'd get it if they were sent to promote a separate concert or something (they did that back in 2009) but just for that 20 minutes I don't see how it makes sense.

 

6 members, for only a short time, even if I like all of them, might not be worth going... I wonder if there will be something else. Flying from Japan just for this seems a little strange...

 

Well you can at least expect that there'll be an AKB in NYC segment in AKB48 SHOW sometime soon!
Usually when it comes to overseas activities AKB only tends to send UG members but I guess Kojiharu opted to tag along too (she's been going a lot there hasn't she?)
I hope fans who'll go can show the girls lots of love!! (banners, mix and everything~)

Well, the Japanese way of thinking sometimes may seem strange to us because they follow rules that are different from the ones we are used to ... maybe someone from the organizing committee asked Aki-P to send a representation of the group and he couldn't say no because it would have been regarded as something very rude ... like saying he didn't want to represent Japan in the Japan Day. After all, when they performed in Washington three years ago it was a celebration related to Japan too...

 

Ugh 18 hour car ride for 20 minutes. The crazy part is I'm actually seriously considering it.

8 hours ride + 6 hours stand waiting at a spot for a 20 minute performance on the day before my final? Sounds like a good deal to me.
