That's an interesting conspiracy, @Atreyu . I can see some merit in this theory. I've wondered in the past why management picked some girls when they didn't seem to be the type to get popular at all. If I could see that they wouldn't get popular, I'm certain that management could see it, too.

I'm sure that in every group, there are always members who had a bad past/childhood.
I'm not sure about AKB since I don't follow them, but in Nogi, there are also a lot of members like that. Nanase being bullied by the senpais in a school club (I forgot what club...), or Maiyan got bullied so hard that she refused to go to school, shut herself in her room for days, built a wall around other people and shut her heart in, etc...

To me, the common thing that they got themselves is the bully problem. It is somewhat really bad in Japan school system though, especially the kohai-senpai thing.

 

if the conspiracy is true, i seem to be attracted to the scapegoats. Lady Oda and roflMAO are adorkable.

 

Although you are likely right about the bullying problem being prevalent in society, it must be said that we know pretty much nothing about Keyaki members' past in this regard. It's a good observation that many of them in some regard are eccentric and don't fit the idealized image for an obedient member of society, making them perfect for a song like Silent Majority. That does not necessarily imply that their characters were shaped because of past troubles however. Moreover, the true character of the members is partially obscure in some regard, because what's made public by producers is the things that they want us to know, but the songs being rebellious doesn't mean that they are all nonconformists by their own nature. They have the talent to act the rebellious nature of their productions extremely authentic though, which is their achievement.

Sorry for sometimes having such an anti-climactic way of viewing things but I believe the medal has always two sides, and I like to look at both.

Same here - the fact that the likes of Yonesan, Odanana or Fuu don't fit the ideal that attracts Ota to sell their HS's and so just makes me want to support them even more. I guess it's because my preferences are very eccentric compared to the standards of fandom however.

 

FNS is on now. Really poor singing and music all round, in my opinion, so far. Hirate's collaboration with the Gospellers is over without incident and without glory -- except that she looked great (too adult, but great) and was no worse than all the famous singers that went before. Nishino Kana came on a bit after and was the first bright light in a dreadful evening. Ms. Ooja was good, too, surrounded by not so good. E-girls on now, doing okay with a simple dance routine, not getting too ambitious.

Second number for E-girls. Pretty good, though nothing so far but Nishino has had a coherent melody, for me. E-girls are doing themselves some good. (So did Hirate, but mainly just by being there and avoiding the "public execution" some expected -- including me.)

MoMusu16 continues the evening of unmusical music. But I've always felt that about any MoMusu: just not much musical interest there. Flashy clothes and belly buttons all round, though.... Sexy Zone are good at what they do, which is elicit screams from the appropriate audience. At least they're in tune.

Big mix-up of idol groups. Nogi and others doing Heavy Rotation, with Hirate there. Then Oide Shampoo, and I think I see Berika (poor image via China). AKB x MoMusu16. Momoiro CloverZ x Cute. Doing music I don't enjoy much fairly well.

Nogi x Kanji x Hiragana doing Seifuku no Mannequin. First real melody all evening. Good stuff. Hirate, Berisa, Shida, Neru, Kumi, Zuumin, Yuipon...others I couldn't make out. AKBxMomoiro doing Iiwake not bad. Cute x Motenashikai meh.

Groups do Hashire! and Akanen is in a group of runners behind them...and wins the race! Big finale with all ~100 idols sounds good. 46 groups and Ebisu in sailor seifuku. Others as you would expect.

Porno Graffiti good rhythms. Little Glee can really sing. They dress, etc., weirdly now, though, and still haven't learned singing motions.

Thanks @hart123! Sakamichi is the real thing. I guess I'm not an idol fan, just a Sakamichi fan. All the rest don't give me any melodic flow. Neru was great. I even found Memi, and she was right on point. Kumi seemed to mess up a bit, though. Neru's kick, Hirate's kick.... Pon.... Risa.... Manaka.... I look forward to seeing the gen3's on their own, too. This was a great way to get Hiragana and gen3 a taste of the big time without exposing them too much. Cousins.

Back Number started well and devolved into over-orchestrated pap. As one of the Chinese comments says, there are now more ads than music.

NMB48 good routine and singing, in leopard-spot tops. Well received. Ebisu looks good but is publicly executing themselves with their singing....

Glad Nishino Kana's turn with the Gospellers wasn't too near Yurina's.... The crowd seems to like aiko. Doesn't do much for me, at least live.... Hey Say Jump are competent.... Unlike the Chinese commenters, who want him gone, I enjoyed Hoshino Gen's first song....

@Atreyu the conspiracy is true, not true true, but we can see it.
Debut days wada maya is super... U-word (now she's cute though), can't sing and her dancing is at mediocre level. I would also add akimoto manatsu, but she has godly handshake technique which saves her from wada maya's fate.

I don't think 3 of them are the scapegoats, yone is one of the cutest (IMO of course), oda nana proven to be beautiful even without any make up on, and fuu is super talented dancer(also definitely not ugly, far from it). The trait that match scapegoats completely was only harada mayu and iguchi mao. Especially mao, but her problem was only her dancing I guess. with lighter makeup and normal speaking voice, she's actually a bit cute

the sakamichis, only wearing a very basic school uniform, yet look the best of all of them! Probably overall looks make difference. Also, I used to doubt nogizaka would still going strong after the core members leave. But damn those 3rd generation are all stunning, the front girls, yamashita and oozono, also yoda yuuki are all stunning!

 

I love to watch Nogi and Keyaki performing together. They form such an incredible power "group". I replayed the Seifuku no Mannequin part so much.

Ah, does anyone know who are the girls at 0:42 and 5:26, or at least their groups?

I loved the sakamichi groups especially the Hiragana 3rd gen combo (I've been crushing on the 3rd gen so hard they look so good)

I'm glad my oshi got plenty of screentime indeed she's the queen of speed ahah

Tecchi did a good job at not being terrible. Next to them of course it's not amazing but she's doing good for an idol.

 

Puhh that Idol Medley is a bit hard to listen to. sakura no hana is such a superior song compared to whatever they spewed beforehand, it isn't even funny.

Nogi+keya was amazing!! I need more.

What in gods name was momoclo and cute singing, that was awful.

my opinion won't be shared by everybody, but I really hope Nogi & Keyaki will do more activities together in the future, like a joint live, a drama or sub-units. their Seifuku no Mannequin performance made me think about this possibility.
