Ah this is something of a surprise. The top is even more single oriented than the real Request Hour top 100.
I guess people like their singles over here. I think I like the real result better I
No subunits makes a hell of a difference.

I'm very happy Yobisute, Bingo and Maria but I'll check my votes in a minute to see how my songs did.

Oh sad to see no Hashire! Penguin :-(

As for the results... Well, can't say I'm too pleased. Well, rats, hardly any of my votes placed but it was not unexpected the way I cast my votes.

If there's one song I'll never doubt that would be in the list is 'Watashi wa watashi'. Miichan is such a power house in Stage48.

I'm quite happy, 23 of my 48 songs ranked (9 of my top 10, nakeru basho was the only that didn't rank), although my favorite songs didn't get amazing rankings (I'm already used to that). It's quite funny, because I didn't give a single vote to the winner

Yes, that's true, people like their singles...or it's just that many still haven't listenend to all the stages... Another fact that didn't surprise me (both in this ranking and in the official) is that AKB48 fans don't like ballads, just take a look at the ranking of some of the most important ballads (our, official)...

I'm really hoping this thread doesn't disappear to the "place where admins put stuff". There is a lot of good reference material here for us noobs that might be looking for a good song that they haven't heard yet. Stage48 is the main website for English language info about AKB48 and related groups, so you kind of hope the best information is easy to find.

These are relatively new songs (and they are favorites of mine too), but also probably didn't get tons of exposure being B-sides. I usually put B-sides on the "to listen to later" list and now I check posts here at Stage48 to see what members opinions are. It really does help even though my musical tastes never really match up with anyone else and there is a lot of music to check out. One thing that always seems to hold true and that is, that really good tunes stand the test of time, so I expect these songs to rise in rankings next year(hope HRP does it again cuz it's a great poll).

This is a fantastic ranking, if only they had performed this one at Request Hour! I love how Koro Garu Ishi ni Nare and TWO ROSES are so high!

Yeah it took me a while to appreciate stages too. You have to actively search for them too and especially the older can be hard to find. You could watch the revival ones but the originals are even better. Maybe I'll try to make an archive and upload a few of them so they will be easier for everyone to watch. I'll have to figure out how first.

 

The thing with stages, is that I find a lot of them even though I only really know the current stages is that a lot of them rely on the dancing and the song order and the general performance rather than the song itself. For instance, the song I voted for in Request Hour, I only ranked #10 in this voting - because I really like the performance of it, and when it comes in in the stage is really exciting. On its own as a song, its not quite half as good.

Anyway, I hope more of you post individual rankings, as I really like reading those!

Same here. I don't dislike Beginner, but it was never among my favorites. It's no coincidence though, considering the number of points and the huge margin between 1st and 2nd place (and the rest).

I guess alot of non-Japanese like the cool, strong kind of song that Beginner is. In Japan the song is often considered a little untypical for AKB (definitely for idol music in general) and it's likely you'll hear people say that the girls "come off a little too strong" for their taste.
People in the US or Europe on the other hand don't grow up watching cute girls performing in school uniforms, so they're more inclined to be drawn to the "girl power" facet of it.

Vodka: The outcome at JPH!P was a little disappointing, yes. Don't know what the problem was; the thread was stickied and all. Maybe some that could have voted over there are members of either Stage or GoGo and sent it to me that way.
75 is a good number though. Let's see if we can double that next year. With all the recent exposure in foreign media, fandom should be growing in the next few months.

 

^ Curious, how many voted here compared to last year's and Ebi48's?. It is true what you said - it took me a while to get over the school uniform thing in AKB. Beginner though, was the start of my "AKB drought" - I didn't buy that single (and the few following it) as I didn't like the song then, and took me a few singles to get me back into the habit of buying them.
