Their name is derived from "花", a kanji character in both of the members' names that can be read as "Hana" ("flower"). They are occasionally referred to as Maririn & Rubie (まりりん＆るびー）, as a reference to the characters they played in the Hinatazaka46 drama, Koeharu!.
