Single AKB48 17th [Heavy Rotation] 10/08/18

In case someone overlooked:
last karaoke ranking lead by Heavy Rotation was on 2012-08-06; since then it was beaten to second (for two weeks) and then third (two so far) place by 栄光の架橋 (Yuzu) and Memeshikute (Golden Bomber).

Losing first place in karaoke maintained for nearly two years seems to be a bigger blow to AKB48 than slightly lower sales of last single

topping karaoke for 1 year was already great enough,
topping karaoke for every year is too impossible.

 

Except it implies it might not be an AKB era anymore. They lost this achievement before Acchan's graduation and Tokyo dome, too.

And even 90 weeks on top of Heavy Rotation is really great, this also shows other releases cannot make impact as HR even they have better and million sales.

 

Don't fret.

Everything passes. What matters is that you enjoy loving AKB48.

It will be a long time before AKB48 drops in popularity enough for them to shut down and call it a day.

In in the years before that tragic event, we can enjoy our love for AKB48.

 

It's not a big blow for me either, while HR is a fun song, it was never my favorite AKB single and probably won't make it to my top ten singles (out of 29, including Baby and 2 independent) either.

I'm actually more surprised on how it stays on top of chart for as long as it did. Karaoke is such a flavor of the week thing, to be on top that long it an accomplishment in itself considering there are hundreds of song released each month.

Not to mention they are still the only group/singer that have 3-4 songs consistently in top 20 every week. It's shows that this really isn't that big of deal.

 

Yes, Heavy rotation ... the rhythm, the choreography, the energy ... everything makes it a perfect song for a karaoke time. I don't think we should be worried because the latest singles were less suitable for that.

The PV definitely sells it, though I think I've started to enjoy Uza a lot recently, I think that may be my number 1 now

Weezer has a history of being familiar with J-Pop don't they? I'm not surprised. They covered a BoA song (was it Meri Kuri?) once.
