I hadn't noticed they were discussed already, because it was just a lot of blather about handshakes lol. I tend to ignore it because it doesn't apply to me. It's not like I'll ever be there to attend one anyway, since even a flight ticket to Japan costs 20% of my yearly income. Soooo.

 

I'm taking one of the most expensive economy class flights to Japan from New York during the summer (when travel is usually most expensive) and it's a $1500 round trip to Tokyo and back. I've found flights as cheap as $990 a round trip. Mind you that I'm a full-time college student.

Your profile says you live in Kentucky, and I found fights as low as $800 or $950 from the same airlines I'm taking (Delta Airlines), and they come with wifi, meals, free baggage check-ins, and free gaming/tv/movie viewing that's available on a screen that's behind the seat directly in front of you.

How the heck is that expensive, let alone TWENTY PERCENT of your yearly income? That means you only make around $4000 dollars a year! The average McDonald's salary is $20,000 a year, and social security/welfare benefits can provide up to $40,000 in benefits!

Now going to every HS event per year would be 20% of my income, and that's not including all the excess fees and costs. But ONE measly trip?

 

Wait, is it that cheap in the U.S.? Here from Sweden a plane ticket from Stockholm-Zürich-Narita Airport costs around $3,500 if you go economy.

 

Are your airplanes made of gold or something? Just checked and Dublin to Tokyo can be done for €600.

 

I think you made a pretty big mistake somewhere, the average business class ticket from ny to narita is ~$4,500 - $7,000, so I'm pretty sure you meant to say economy...

Actually, I just checked after I read what you wrote (because I want to go to Japan this summer too). The cheapest business class I found anywhere online was a little over $2,500, and the only airlines that ever offer that low of a price is china eastern airlines. Any japanese or american carrier would cost you over $4,000 easy. The cheapest Delta business class ticket to tokyo from nyc that I found is $6,500. United $5,500. ANA $6,500, JAL $6,500. I've been to and from japan a few times, you can get economy usually from 900-2000, depending on the carrier. But business? not a chance, unless maybe your family member works for them.
