@ukifune Hiyotan-chan wasn't full recovered on her health when they performed on Laguna Fes. That's why sometimes she just "dissapear" from the stage.

On the backstage footage, you can saw her being cared by Kumi-chan and Toshi-chan. And I don't remember the song, but in a moment, Toshi-chan ask her "Are you ok?" and Manamo-chan looking at her worried too.

    -------------------------------------

Personal Note: Sorry if I'm a bit inactive this days. I'm in bad health condition right now, that's why I didn't share many news about our beloved Keyakizaka and Hinatazaka. Sometimes I just upload videos (audios) and I fall asleep and don't share here (thanks to some member of this forum for share even if some are not my work). I will try to share news if I can and I will continue uploading (with my friends) on our Youtube channels and Bilibili channels.

    Sorry for the incovenience.

I can't watch it, but can you describe the choreo for Dakishimete Yaru. Is it choreographed by Takahiro?

Sorry, I'm not sure how to describe choreo. They start in a huddle, sort of like Futari Saison, and the outer layers peel away and face outward, arms outstretched. Finally Nao-chan is revealed at the centre and (I believe) Miho-Nao-Memi start the song. They operate in rows, switching around a lot: one long row, two rows, even four rows. I don't get a big Takahiro feeling, but it could be. There is a group mass moving in unison part that seems Takahiro-esque.

The NHK school program that Memi and Kono-chan are in started today. You can see today's ep here, and here is the main page: it looks as if each show will be posted (the movie camera icons). KonoMemi did well as the students -- lively, smart, serious, and natural -- working with host Midorikawa Hikaru and a teacher. The series is called "Society and Information," and in this ep they talked about what information is and what different media do (record, convey or express). Conclusion: smartphone can do anything. The show will be on ETV every second Thursday afternoon.

Sounds different from SaiMajo and Fukyouwaon choreo despite the music was composed by BugBear. It seems to be a choreo by Takahiro because he makes choreo that fits Hinata's variety skills which creates participation. He choreographed the whole Budokan Xmas Live. Katoshi just said in an interview they want to keep Hiragana Keyaki concept with their new name. Kyun is a bit different from Gana style so that is one of the songs they want to have Nogi-like beauty. Keyaki-like performance they have already built as Gana. It would be a waste if they dropped Gana's concept because new Keyaki will never use it anyway and we saw what they did with Nogi's Synchronicity. The brightest we will see from Keyaki as if they were going back to union songs in the style of SekAi and Saison.

Who would you consider the strongest singers in Hinata? I watched old Keyaki showrooms and episodes of Keyakake. Kyonko seems to be their ace based on the karaoke competition they did on Keyakake. On showroom both Kyonko and Kageyama are good.

Hinata has not done solo songs yet but if it was time for the next single Kyonko looks to be in a good place. I don't know much about Nao Kosaka because when 2gen performed Seifukuno Mannequin at Budokan last year it wasn't good.

Kyonko, Mirei and Katoshi are the three singers that have been featured most, and deserve it. I think Katoshi has the most emotion in her singing, and Kyonko the most technical skill. But I think there are a number of other good singers in Hinata. It's a bit hard to tell because we haven't heard them individually very much. Nao can sing, as can Miho and Miku. The dark horse may be Tomita, who is a good singer. And anyone who has seen Magia Record knows that Memi has made herself into a strong singer. In Mimi ni Ochiru Namida, she and Kyouko sing passages together, with matching strong contralto voices; and I believe Memi, Nao and Miho sing the opening part of Dakishimete Yaru, with Memi the strongest presence. Magia Record also shows Nibu and Sarina are singers. For a solo, I think it could be any one of Kyonko, Katoshi, Mirei, Nao or Memi. Popularity and push would be factors, as well as singing skill.

Definitely do listen to the songs suggested by @ruggermcphee. As well as the songs from Magia Record. Here's a song from Magia Record, featuring Memi, but with good clear passages from lots of others.

I can easily choose Kyoko as the strongest singer in Hinata. However, other members' singing ability doesn't have too much difference. Mao said she is tone deaf. But, honestly, I haven't heard her sing clearly or her solo part. Maybe, if they have karaoke segment on HinaAi, we can find out her real singing ability.
In 1st gen, Mirei and Katoshi is my favorite. Imo, Mirei isn't suitable as solo singer. But, she is perfect choice for band vocalist. As for 2nd gen, Konoka and Tomita is my favorite. It's mostly because I can hear their voice clearly from their unit song and Kimi ni hanashite song.

@MasToppu -- Yes, the singing quality is good in this group from top to (almost) bottom. Bottom being Mao-chan. She's not as bad as she was when she tried to prove early on (on KeyaKake?) that she was tone-deaf, but her voice does show through, unfortunately, from time to time. However, she has brought herself up to a level that makes her presence acceptable. She did beat out Naako when they did their Kanji-Hiragana (1gen) karaoke singing challenge.... Boy, that was awful (KeyaKake #93, 170827). Actually, a lot of the singing then was awful, especially from the Kanji side (much as I love them). Kyouko and Pon were closest to in tune, Kyouko the most in tune. Several others were reasonably in tune, including Memi and Mirei.

That aside, however, this group's overall sound is so strong and accurate now.

Listen to that link to a Magia Record song I posted above (and right here). Good, if brief, solo line from Suzuka. She seems such a natural singer. Actually, if you're someone who can recognize Autotune when you hear it, do you hear it there? Everybody's so right on that I think it must be there, but I don't know how to hear it.

Actually, I don't love either Kyouko's or Mirei's voices. They sing well, but there's something tight or forced about their voices, to me. I think Katoshi is the best "singer" in the sense of getting the song's emotion across. But I also think someone else has to rise: Memi's singing improved tremendously over 2018, but she is still learning and needs to develop a style. Suzuka should get her chance. Nibu, Konoka, Miku.... It would be good to develop a couple of really good singers who could each create an impressive central sound.

@ukifune I just watched your video. Were they singing it live? If that was really live singing, that was really good. I won't say their singing is perfect. But, how they sing it without losing their pitch control and their voice didn't shaking, is really amazing. It is really difficult to do that.:1st:

I watched clip from Nogi's stageplay (Sailormoon and Girls Revue) and have to admit Hinata did better than them. I'm a little bit embarassed here as Nogi's fan, because my Nogi's Oshimen played in Girls Revue, and even though she is experienced and has one of the best singing ability in Nogi, she can't keep her pitch when she sing on that stageplay. The Sailormoon were even worse.
Maybe it is just me. But, Hinata always get better material than Nogi. I can really see it from their latest drama and album. Re:Mind is waaayyy better than Zambie. Moreover, Nogi also only got 8 new song in their latest album, which only one song that I like. Meanwhile, Hinatazaka (Hiragana) got 20+ new song for their Hashiri dasu album, and there is only one song that I don't really like. I really love Nogizaka and Hinatazaka. Just why there is different treatment like that? I don't understand.

@MasToppu -- Unless the Hinata-chans are just really good singers, I've always thought they might be using Autotune in the recording. This vid is from the TV version that came out a few months ago, not from the more recent BD, which actually doesn't sound particularly different. With Memi being my oshimen, I was totally blown away by how accurate her pitch seemed. I had no idea she could be that good. And that goes for the others, too, although I already knew a number of them were good singers. The whole presentation seemed so professional. Memi and others were already big fans of MadoMagi, and after being highly dubious at first, fans of the franchise apparently ended up agreeing that this play was a worthy addition and presented the characters properly (based on the Magia Record game).

I don't follow Nogi closely enough to know how it compares, but I do agree that Hinata have been getting benefits -- because Aki_P and Sony decided to make them into a third point of the trident and had to give them that first push. I didn't think of it stretching back to the album, but probably. Probably not as far back as Re:Mind, though -- which I agree was very good (partly from the acting of some members: Memi, Mirei, Miho, Manafi, Kage-chan...). I thought the album was to give them enough songs for concerts, but it could also have been to give them a step upward. The discussion a while ago made me realize that they probably decided around the end of 2017 that they would go ahead and make them a separate group.

I think management may realize that it has lucked out with some very talented members in this group, and just about no duds, and may be trying to create the maximum value from them. When Hiragana started, I already thought the 1gens had more singing talent than Kanji, and the 2gens are fundamentally like a team of all-stars, it has always seemed to me. And that was hard to admit, since I was already such a fan of the 1gens.

I'm 99.99% certain they were singing live. While they sounded good, there were still too many imperfections and pitch issues for it to be a pre-recorded or autotuned track. Especially during the chorus when they were all singing together, and during Memi's second solo when she was walking and singing at the same time and when she hit the extended high note.

But I've always said that Hinata's main strength is their singing. The average singing ability of Hinata members is way higher than pretty much any other idol group, except for specialist groups like Little Glee Monster. Katoshi and Kyonko are special. Two of the best singers in all of idoldom. Tomita I think is really good. Underrated. And pretty much all the members are good or at least decent. And the decent ones are improving. Memi is good, I think her main issue is stability and being able to sing well while dancing/moving. Miho the same. But that will come with practice. Mirei is really great. She seems to be really stable, relative to most of the other members.

They sounded great during the Luna Fest. There were issues but I think a lot of it had to do with the outdoor acoustics and the audio mixing. Sometimes one girl sounded a lot louder than the other girls.
But I love the fact that they sing live and don't lip sync. I would rather hear the imperfections than see them moving their mouths to a pre-recorded track.

Hinatazaka46 will appear on Quick Japan magazine and with something really big. 50 pages with interview to all members (except Kage-chan) plus pictures including the cover. First time they will have that amount of pages on a magazine. Congratulations because is a great promo.

Thanks for the suggestions. My personal favourite was Katoshi's solo song. I like her variety and when she changed tone. Probably now my second favourite singer in Sakamichi if Zuumin still counts despite her graduation.

After Katoshi's solo song I think I prefer singers with emotions. It's more memorable for me. As for Memi, I'm curious about her but I also feel she has to develop her own style before we start to see her doing solo songs. Katoshi's solo song was placed in Type B album version. Both Kyonko and Katoshi were rejected for the first album with Kanji/Gana which was questionable at the time by management. Gana 1gen members joined April 2016? Plenty of time for management to recognize members' strength. It wasn't only Zuumin, Techi and Neru who could sing.

I look forward to more songs with Katoshi in the future.

Hinata vocals are this good because they had more time spent practicing during their time as Hiragana. That’s what makes them more vocally stable than Nogi. Nogi have been busy since day one and vocals probably weren’t that much of a priority when they were competing with AKB. Of course there’s the cases of Kyoko and Erika who didn’t originally aspire to be idols but actual singers.
