im not confused. i wanna say that those 3 are so popular as contestants, but after debut in ori group, their fans arent following them as close as ioi.

I think the popularity of Arashi and SMAP is kind of like SNSD and Wonder Girls before Gee and Wonder Girls being exiled to USA which Wonder Girls is leading and SNSD is following closely behind.

I remember the episode in Music Japan where TOKIO member talking about Arashi raising in popularity to the extent that Taichi’s mother asked for Arashi concert ticket (TOKIO is Arashi senior and this episode was aired during the time AKB48 promoting Iiwake Maybe).

Even SMAP members acknowledging Arashi popularity. During TOKIO show, 5LDK with Nakai as the guest, Nakai talked about how he feels a bit jealous about Sakurai position as newscaster of News Zero and Arashi growing popularity (this episode aired a year before SNSD releasing Gee).

The interesting quote I get from internet is that you must learn something from SMAP which become the popular group in Japan while having a member that sing like Nakai and dance like Goro.

The FlopTC could still sold over 70,000 copies and had oversea activities. S.M. has the resource and power to persistently push its idol to a profitable level of international popularity regardless. Stray Flops also still is in better condition than countless groups.

It's a lot of time since I'm not following IZ*ONE. Cause to me it seems they've peaked with their debut with La Vie En Rose in term of public interest. Now they're releasing singles for their little fanbases but are not really expanding and getting public interest like they did during PRODUCE48 amd debut with La Vie En Rose.

I would be happy to be denied cause I really hope for Sakura-chan they're getting the best.

That was what seemed to me cause I wasn't following the group (and I don't follow K-POP in general), so I am happy if it's not like that and IZ*ONE is getting more and more popular and getting more and more attention from the general public.

 

To be quite honest with you, I sort of thought the same... Personally La Vie En Rose was their most impactful moment so far and in Japan, Suki To Iwasetai became one of my most played 48 singles in recent times.

However, despite the many wonderful promos and opportunities to shine in Japanese media, Buenos Aires didn’t exactly light the chart on fire, selling less in its first week than Suki To Iwasetai. Yes it finally gave them their first weekly Oricon no.1 and perhaps it could be due to the song itself but despite of them being almost everywhere, their popularity doesn’t seem to match their exposure...

You could probably say the same with Violeta not performing as well as La Vie En Rose in the Korean charts as well, their reception is somewhat lukewarm. But their physical album sales are still monstrously strong for Korean release standard, I think due to the loyal fanbase they have. That said, yeah, I am unsure of their popularity with the general public.... Perhaps someone can correct me as well on this...
