TwI is indeed a very good song. It brings back a nostalgic japanese 70's folk songs atmosphere and has a beautiful message in its lyrics. The song by itself is great to be played with an accoustic guitar.
The performance is beautiful too, with its square-dance-like coreography and one can't deny Miion was adorable as a center.

 

I also added Nogizaka46 and Keyakizaka46 to the poll. They, espacilly Keyaki, released great songs which I had to include.

Am I losing my mind, or is the chorus of Hikari to Kage Hibi not a little similar to the duet part (especially from min 3:30 in that video)?

IMO, NMB48 had the best songs out of all the 48G releases this year.

 

Densetsu no Sakana -> I love its deep lyrics and the composition also fits the song. Yeah, add the nice PV and Annin pseudo almost center position, this one is the winner.
Sakasazaka -> The light enka music vibes of this song is really fun, the message of the lyrics is nice too and goes really well with the center's background story.
Tsubasa wa Iranai -> Idk, the [遥かなる道の先を夢見て歩こう] part still gives me chill sometimes. Underrated song that should have been saved for Spring tbh.
Koi wo Isoge (Amagami Hime Coupling) -> This is, by far, the best 2016 NMB song for me.
Hikari to Kage no Hibi/Shiawase wo Wakenasai -> I still listen to these on daily basis, well that says a lot considering I don't listen to ballad that much.

 

There are slight similarity in how the chorus picks up around there. Outside of that part, not really, and especially not if we're talking about whether Hikari to Kage no Hibi ripped off too much of Myth

 

Fair enough. Maybe "ripping off too much" was too strong a word to use. It's just the first time I heard the song, I was like "wait a minute, it sounds way too familiar...". It's still a good song, don't get me wrong.

Sticking within only the AKB family this year's singles...my ranking would be the following:

Alright, here comes the good old rivalry of East vs West. I like it.
And for now I would say pretty much Team East has gotten the upper hand. Team West's song is not bad at all, in fact it was a very difficult choice for me. So if it's not about the song itself then it's about the members tbh lololol when you look at that Team East first row line up and compare it to Team West...it's gg lololol. Yes, I'm a simple man.

4. Max toki 315-go

Damn it, AKS management seriously needs to develop NGT. The group right now is essentially non-existent. Not even 1 formal single from NGT this year is just outright ridiculous. (What are they doing for the whole damn year? Keya46 is on their 3rd single! Considering since they were close to their debuts. What the actual...at least give them some more new stages...give them some love please) Hence I would give number 4 place to this song. It's decent and catchy and the MV shots of scenary is pretty nice. And I always find that big winter coats + snow is a very attracting combination.

3. Boku wa Inai

Grad song for Milky. I don't know, I'm not a big fan of her but this song is sad. Maybe the only hella sad Beach side single in AKB history? And probably one of the rare AKB songs that the lyrics actually makes sense plus it's catchy. And the bikini version of the girls is too dazzling that to even blink my eyes afraid that I miss some good scenes, if you know what I mean. Yes, indeed I'm a simple man.

2. Better

Yes, it's another grad song. This time for Paruru. Arguably could've been High Tension but I chose this over it because the MV is too damn beautiful to not shed a tear. Compared to High tensions joyful and light hearted atmosphere I'd say this should've been the 46th single cover song (jk) because I feel this is what matches Paruru's personality a lot better. The 9th gen members gathered for one last time in this single and then you remember what they have been through together during KKS to Old Team 4 and eventually scattered around the AKB groups fighting their own life battles every day. Oh them memories, it's a tear jerking moment.

1. Kimi wa Melody

Hands down bro, throw back of all original legendary members??? This is a no brainer, doubt they would do something like this again in another 5 years at least. And did I mention it was Sakuratan's legit centre single??? (Unlike Kibouteki refrain from 2015) The song itself is catchy and cute. The MV is colorful and elegantly choreographed. It's number one on my list of Best AKB song 2016 nuff said.

Special Mention: Mazari au mono

This one is pretty majestic and weird at the same time musically and visually wise which perfectly fits the title of the song right on, "Things that mixed together". I love it. This song can be stuck in my head for dayz no joke. I can say this is a cluster-mind-buck done right. Gives you an idea what would the two rival groups put together can be like, it's just so mesmerizing to watch their interesting choreography of repetitions and patterns too. It's quite an art piece.

Side note: HKT and SKE singles are all hit and misses, not that great and not that bad at all...meh.

Side note 2: High Tension has most of my favourite songs this year which is all 8 songs of the whole single, the least would be Chicken Line with none lol...
