Hoping this year she'll get more opportunities.

Today I am very pleasantly surprised at how well Oya Shizuka fared and thrilled at her ample improvement in rank. Pleased by the results for Tani Marika too. Umeyama Cocona's results, why the negatives? Nakanishi Chiyori's results put a smile on my face. Ozono Rei going from unranked to 59 just made Abelaine Trinidad's unranked to 145 look like nothing. Wow.

2020 has been a crazy year.

I still remember it like today. In 2015 I was 12 years old and my classmate had just entered an idol group and become a celebrity overnight. Maybe that's an exaggeration, and you cannot seriously call a newbie member of a group of 300 people, notorious for its harsh and competitive spirit, a "celebrity". But for us, who had been seeing her almost every day, she was now simply a celebrity full stop. Many had definitely started treating her like one - gossips, two-facedness, jealousy had creeped into our class and it could have never been as harmonious as before.

For me, someone, who knew that girl pretty much ever since I had first started realizing the world around me, she was inevitably still something different. She was a star. No, that's not just expressing the same idea with a different word. For me, she had not been someone famous whom I had to follow. Even though you could say I had been following her my whole life, she had in my mind been the opposite of famous - someone, whom only I had known. She had always been the light guiding my life, but I had hardly realized, as she had also been an obvious presence in the way other stars are, and only upon reflection you can acquire the knowledge of their true meaning and value.

2020 has been a crazy year.

But in 2017, I already knew. And then at the end of the school-year, our school had a special lecture with some renowned professor. The guy was a crashing bore and I could hardly stay awake during the lecture, let alone remember anything from it. Only two things from that day stuck in my mind. First, she was not present. At that time it was already hardly an unexpected happening. Indeed, stars are too busy, they are not here for you alone... Second, "Knowledge Is Power". I have no idea, why did I retain that part. Maybe because it hit me especially hard - with my new knowledge I had thus acquired the power to suffer every day, to hate myself in brand new ways. How comfortable had my powerless life been...

2020 has been a crazy year.

But so were the other years, the high school years, the years without my star, 2018, 2019... I lost my star. Did it fall down? It certainly changed. Didn't we all? People might have to part from each other. But how can possibly people part from their stars? How can they part with their stars? I cannot even remember those years happening at all. All of it was just aimless floating in completely dark, empty space, without any stars to guide me. People around me might have been complaining less than they would in 2020, but in my perspective, those years were not any less crazy.

"Oh, hey!" It was only in the crazy year 2020, when I heard that familiar voice behind me. Am I imagining this? I should have been over the previous years, I should have been longing for such moment to happen, however ridiculous, pathetic and hopeless it might have been, but I hadn't once. I had already lost all hope, I had suppressed all my knowledge in hopes of returning to the sweet powerless days of my youth when I could still have slept peacefully. Alas, that is not how it works. But what was it I heard just now?

Only in the crazy year 2020 I was able to return to the sweet powerful days of my youth.

I ranked Moeka as my #1 and gave her 15 points! I'm happy that her rank is much better than last year! (although I do wonder why she received -5 from 2 users, because this ranking is about 2020 and she dissapear the whole 2020...). Moeka has only been active as 48G member for January and a few days of February in 2020 but it was mostly social media updates and she was waiting for her final handshake (which ended up cancelled) and her performance at the singing competition's concert, after that she literally dissapeared the whole 2020, but still for me she is #1, because that short time where I followed her in 2020 was the only time in the year where I had a real oshimen. and for all the months after and even now, I still search about news for her all the time (for anyone curious to see all the "hints" of her presence in the past year, start reading here), and I also still listen to her singing all the time. I miss her ._. and I'm sad that I don't have a real oshimen in AKB anymore (again). I really loved being her fan and following her So for as long as she can be voted, she deserves the #1 rank for me!

Nanami has really been growing on me.
Kira is an amazing mystery and Cocona has improved a lot (though I can also see why she could get negative votes, I still love to read that voters perspective).

Quite disappointed with Manaka's rank. I thought for sure she's gonna gain a few. I guess she's unlucky to have some of her voters last year didn't participate this time.

A lot of mine came up as well. I'm surprised by Miho position, I expected her being way up since her popularity in Hinata but I'm still pretty happy she improved her ranking at least.
Runa is one of my fave Nogi 4thgen and even though she may not be polished and super pretty like many Nogi girls, she managed to strike both Nogiskits Act1 (perfect) and singing her first solo at her first concert (priceless).
Not too far from Runa there's Rei, who is my Sakamichi Shinkisei Oshi.
I understand why Sakamichi mngmnt divided the new generations in Keyaki, Nogi and Hinata, but if they would have chosen differently and made a new 46 group with those girls, I think it would have been an huge success. They are a force of nature.
I have to admit some of my votes went also as farewell and thank you. To girls who gave me a lot not just in 2020 but I won't follow anymore so closely.
I'll end with TakeYui, who proved to be a great dancer (it would be SO GREAT to have a 46/48 best dancers competition at least once!) and a great variety member. Talking to her has been amazing and I hope 2021 will bring only the best to her.

Surprised that Risa couldn't crack the top 50 considering she is one of the aces of Sakurazaka and possibly their most popular member.
Also surprised that Hayashi Runa was one of the two members I voted for so far with 10 voters! Seems like a lot of people are interested in her. I think she has a lot of potential to get bigger!

 

Good question. The only explanation I can give is that perhaps some voters don't like that she often apologizes about stuff that are not her fault. But sumimasen is one of the first words kids in Japan learn, so that shouldn't be surprising. That, and covering their mouth when they laugh
Also, since someone mentioned Rei Ozono's position, I wanted to say I was a bit surprised too she was the highest ranked of the new Sakura members. I expected Kira, who was also in the top 100 to be higher, but Rei is a smart girl, a great performer, and has brought a lot to Sakurazaka, so I'm really happy to see her being popular.

Saito Fuyuka is the other Fuuchan in my life and still my #1. 2020 was a hard year for Keyaki and I'm sure for her, but in Saku she's re-enlivening her variety role helping the others by being the brunt of their jokes again. She really shone in their 2 major concerts last year, and her dance is still the best and deserves more attention.
Miku became my Hinata oshi in 2020 (sorry Kyoko), and every time she appears on camera it makes me happy. Beautiful smart, and talented, I'm sure she could be center eventually too.
Saeppi became my NMB oshi and graduated all in the same year. Fortunately she's been active before and after with her fashion line so there's always plenty of opportunities to se her. I'm thinking she may be the most beautiful woman in Japan.
Manatsu still reigns as my Nogi oshimen; captain got to show up to what things there were to do in 2020, and always feels like she's got things under control, with only the occasional stumble
Matsuri is the vice-captain Sakuzaka needs. Even if she can't help everyone, I hope she can keep the 2nd gen strong. Just like what attracted me to Fuu, she's focused on making things work on TV and behind the scenes, positive, and beautiful.
Reichan is the epitome of the bubbliness of the Nogi 4th gen. It took me a while to learn about them, but her emotional energy really grabbed my attention in 2020, and she's a treat to watch.
Takahashi Ayane is really, really, really pretty. Also nice. And she spent most of 2020 oddly fascinated by her turtle.
Bibian I guess wasn't as active in 2020, but I still love her enthusiasm and she remains my favorite in HKT in the face of growing competition
