AKB48 no Uta (AKB48の歌) is an AKB48 drama, which will be broadcasted from May 21, 2022, on HikariTV.

Synopsis

Each episode has a different plot, revolving around one of AKB48's songs every time. All members suggested a plot for one of the group's songs, and fans were able to vote for their favourite plot without knowing which member had written it. The winner was Better, written by Yamane Suzuha, and it will be aired as the final episode.

1 Koi Suru Fortune Cookie, Part 1 Chiyori is the manager of a wedding planning company, which employs Erii and Seina as wedding planners and Haruka as a gardener. Yuzuka joins the company, but she's clumsy and makes a lot of mistakes. Chiyori gives her one last chance, but her client is Junta-kun: a man whom she used to be in love with at school. He is engaged to a woman named Mion. He tells her he doesn't want to get married but he's been promised to her because of their family connections. He tells her he's actually in love with someone else, and when Yuzuka asks who he loves, he points a finger at her. 2 Koi Suru Fortune Cookie, Part 2 The backstory shows how Chiyori was impressed by Yuzuka's job interview and a recent client mentions how Yuzuka really listened to her and made her feel like a happy bride-to-be. Just as Junta and Mion are meant to get married, Yuzuka bursts into the chapel wearing a bridal dress. Mion asks what she's doing, messing up her ceremony, and Yuzuka says she's come here to get married. When Mion asks who she's going to marry, she points at Junta, who accepts her proposal. 3 Yuuhi wo Miteiru ka? Mizuki, Ami and Manaka work at a small theater that has never more but also never less than 7 customers. While Mizuki and Ami perform on stage alongside the theater's owner and a young male actor, Manaka creates background effects behind the curtain. The owner announces there will be a new stage to be performed in one week from today and Manaka shall be on stage. She rehearses all the time, but she can't get the scenes to sound right and is told she lacks passion. The owner receives a letter from a loanshark that they're coming for their money, so he leaves a note for his daughter, Ran, before running off. 4 Yuuhi wo Miteiru ka? The loanshark, Mogi, threatens to close down the theater but Manaka convinces her to let them perform. The condition is that Mogi takes Manaka's main lead role. They practice and rehearse and even work out together, but on the night of the opening performance, Mogi forgets her lines. Manaka saves the performance after finally having found her passion. 5 Oogoe Diamond Ayana (Shinozaki Ayana) and her husband Kondo are having marital problems. Her best friend Nanami tells her she needs to communicate, but Ayana has lost her will to speak up. The scene changes and shows a young Ayana (Omori Maho) at school when she first meets Kondo – his dad has recently passed away, and he's struggling to keep up with school work. She helps him study and misses a date planned with her friends Nanami and Kaori. Nanami and Kaori let Ayana know that they don't like being ditched for a guy and in order to prove that they matter to her, Ayana pushes herself past the limits, running on the track field. Kurumi, who is second on the class ranking because of Ayana, watches but doesn't say anything as Ayana starts to become visibly exhausted. She nearly passes out, but Kondo catches her and the teacher yells at Nanami and Kaori. On graduation day, Ayana is about to tell Kondo her feelings, but decides not to. However, in the end, she regrets it and runs after him, but as she reaches the stop, he has already driven up. Back in the present, the older Ayana looks at her graduation book, which reads 'We will always be together', signed by Kondo. Suddenly, the writing disappears, and Ayana finds herself next to her younger self, who hasn't said good bye to Kondo. 6 Oogoe Diamond The two Ayanas realize there has been a time slip. Ayana from the future (Shinozaki Ayana) encourages younger Ayana (Omori Maho) to run after Kondo and confess her feelings. Eventually, the younger Ayana agrees. Ayana from the future ends up back in her own time and agrees with Nanami that it's time that she talks to Kondo. Young Ayana gets to the train station just as the train is passing and she thinks she's missed her chance again, but when the train is gone, she sees Kondo sitting on the other side. She yells over to him that she loves him and he accepts her feelings. Back in the future, Ayana and Kondo finally talk about their problems and make up again. 7 Heavy Rotation Yuiri works as a librarian after being forced to give up on her dream of becoming a dancer. A young visitor, Haruka, tells her about a scary man who's passed out on a bench outside the library. Yuiri checks on him, but he's simply fallen asleep and she finds out he is an aspiring lyricist named Natsuro. She encourages him to seek inspiration at the library and recommends books to him. He starts coming more regularly, and her co-workers Miyuu and Megu question her whether he's her boyfriend. Meanwhile, Natsuro is constantly getting berated by his younger sister Rina to get a well paying job and give up on his dream. Natsuro encourages Yuiri to keep on dreaming about becoming a dancer, and so they start seeing each other more often. Rina blames his lack of aspiration on the fact that his ex girlfriend Ayami has broken up with him, but when the four of them (Natsuro, Yuiri, Rina and Ayami) meet, Ayami acknowledges that Rina is the one she's tired of. 9 Better Two girls live in the country side. Girl A wants to become an idol and Girl B secretly has a crush on Girl A. Girl A practises hard to become an idol, and Girl B cheers for her. Girl A fails an audition and Girl B comforts her and they become close. After a few months, Girl A passes auditions for an idol group in Tokyo. 10 Better Girl A returns from Tokyo and meets up with Girl B. Girl A has become even more radiant, but Girl B feels lonely. Eventually, Girl A has to return to Tokyo, so Girl B sees her off at the bus stop. She finally confesses her feelings, but Girl A only says "thank you." They hug and say good bye. As Girl A stands in the door of the bus, she turns around and tells Girl B, "I've always loved you too."
