AYUMI
AYUMI (あ ゆ み) was a stage play performed by Hiragana Keyakizaka46. The play was performed at AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo from April 20th to May 6th, 2018. Additionally, two showings of the play were aired on television (TBS Channel) on July 28th and 29th, 2018.
Stage Play
All 20 members of Hiragana Keyakizaka46 active at the time participated in the play. The members were divided into two teams, Team Harmonica and Team Castanet, where they shared the roles of the cast and took turns performing the play.
The play was originally written by Shiba Yukio, who won the 54th Kishida Prize for Drama in 2010 for his play "Waga Hoshi" (わが星). AYUMI is about the life of one woman named Ayumi, acted out by ten actresses over the course of the show. According to Shiba, the concept was to allow the audience to imagine Ayumi as they would like to envision her, rather than be influenced by a single actress's portrayal. He encouraged viewers to project the image of someone close to them onto the character, in order to make her someone anybody could relate to.
The majority of the play takes place with Ayumi walking alongside another character, such as with her love interest Umehara. Hiragana Keyakizaka46 members shared the roles of these secondary characters as well.
