SGO48 (short for Saigon48) was a Vietnamese idol group and the 6th international sister group of AKB48. The 1st generation members were announced on November 17, 2018.
On December 5, 2021, it was announced they will disband after their 3rd year anniversary on December 22, 2021 due to the impacts of COVID-19 Pandemic.
Overview
- The logo color is pink, which is the image of the Lotus Flower, which is the national flower of Vietnam.
- From August 10th, 2019 to December 22nd, 2021 their group captain was Võ Phan Kim Khánh (Kaycee).
- On December 5th, 2021, it was announced that the group would be disbanded on December 22nd, 2021 due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). The official statement was as follows:
The coronavirus infection is rampant here in Vietnam, spreading to Ho Chi Minh City and other parts of Vietnam, having great impact on the activities of SGO48 in response to social isolation measures. As a result of repeated discussions among the parties concerned, as uncertainties about the restrictions on future activities are expected, we would like to report to that we have decided to disband SGO48 as of December 22, the third anniversary of the group.
Differences from other groups
- Unlike other 48 Groups, SGO48 was named after the former name of Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon.
