2020 in AKB48 Group
The following is a list of events and releases that occurred in 2020 by the AKB48 Group.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, several releases, concerts, and events were cancelled, postponed, or scaled back.
Contents
Members
- February 2: Team C is formed with 2 members.
- March 7: The units Daisy, Bellflower, and Sakura are formed.
- March 15: Charm, CJ, Glaze, Jana, Jash, Jie, Kath, Klaryle, Lyza, Miyaka, Rachel, Rain, Rianna, Rhea, Ruby, and Yiesha join MNL48 as 3rd generation Trainees.
- March 26: Jelay joins MNL48 as a 3rd generation Trainee.
- April 15: AKB48 launches OUC48 (short for Ouchi kara, nippon wo genki ni) to support Japan's stay-at-home order.
- August 9: Earn, Earth, Eve, Fame, Grace, Hoop, Jaokhem, Jeje, Kaofrang, Mean, Monet, Paeyah, Pampam, Pancake, Peak, Pim, Popper, Yayee, and Yoghurt join BNK48 as 3rd Generation Trainees.
- September 12: Asao Momoka, Orisaka Koharu, Kameno Zion, Kuroda Fuuwa, Satsuki Aika, Sumino Wakana, Hayakawa Yuna, Hirayama Mai, Manabe Anju, Yoshino Misaki, and Wada Miyu join NMB48 as 7th generation Kenkyuusei.
- September 26: Chen ZhangYuan, Li JiaHui, Ma XiaoYu, Peng LuXuan, Qiu DiEr, Wang AnNi, Wang XuanYa, Xie WenJie, Zhang JiaZhe, and Zhou ChenYuXuan join AKB48 Team SH as 3rd generation Trainees.
- October 9: DEL48 goes on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

- January 1: NMB48 announces 7th Generation auditions
- January 31: MNL48 announces 3rd Generation auditions
- November 18: SGO48 announces 2nd Generation auditions
Kenkyuusei promotions
- January 1:
- Kobayashi Rina, Sakamoto Nami, Sadano Haruka, Shobu Marin, and Yamasaki Amiru are promoted to Team N.
- Abe Wakana, Sato Ami, Sugiura Kotone, Deguchi Yuina, Maeda Reiko, and Mizobuchi Maria are promoted to Team M.
- Okamoto Rena, Ogawa Yuuka, Nakano Mirai, Hara Karen, Miyake Yuria, and Yokono Sumire are promoted to Team BII.
- January 18: Karla is promoted to Team NIV.
- January 19: Li Jia-li and Tsai Ya-en are promoted to Team TP.
- January 26: Sam is promoted to Team MII.
- March 1:
- Aoumi Hinano, Akahori Kimie, and Arano Himeka are promoted to Team S.
- Okamoto Ayaka and Shirai Yukino are promoted to Team KII.
- Ikeda Kaede and Tanabe Mizuki are promoted to Team E.
- August 4: Nile and Trish are promoted to Team NIV.
- October 5:
- Takeuchi Nanami, Nakasaka Miyu, and Hirano Momona are promoted to Team S.
- Iriuchijima Sayaka, Kawashima Miharu, Suzuki Ena, and Fujimoto Fuyuka are promoted to Team KII.
- Ishikawa Kanon and Suzuki Kokona are promoted to Team E.
- October 9:
- Lee Meng-chun and Po Ling are promoted to Daisy.
- Fujii Mayu is promoted to Bellflower.
- Zhou Jia-yu is promoted to Sakura.
- November 28: Jian QiangWei, Liang ShiAn, Kong KeXin, Tan JunXi, Zhang QianFei, and Zou RuoNan are promoted to full members of AKB48 Team SH.
- December 8:
- Furukawa Nazuna and Honda Sora are promoted to Team A.
- Nagano Megumi is promoted to Team K
- Ishiwata Sena, Kuramoto Miyuu, Homma Mai, and Yoshihashi Yuzuka are promoted to Team 4
- December 25: Ando Chikana, Otsuka Nanami, Ogoe Haruka, Kato Minami, Kawagoe Saaya, Komiyama Sara, Sato Kairi, Sogabe Yume, Tsushima Yunako, Terada Hina, Tominaga Yu, Fujisaki Miyu, Furusawa Mana, Furutate Aoi, Mashimo Kaho, Mimura Hino, and Morohashi Hinata are promoted to NGT48. Each member is still considered a member of either 1st Generation, 3rd Draft and 2nd Generation.
